What is wrong with you Will? If you read the comments in any of your PS3 releases, or knew anything about warez for consoles you would know that no one here can use these releases.
This is a ps2 rls, so pls dont call it useless. And as for me, please upload the dvd5 torrent or rapidshare links for it.

and what type of dvd should i use to burn RB2?
can i use my joysick as the drums? or my logitch g25 pedals for drum or guitar?
ps3 and ps2 hardware is the same for rockband afaik.

How do I go about using this release and burning it so I can play it on my PS2? Does the PS2 have to be modified?
To answer some questions here : ps3 drums are the one used for the ps2, to play a backup like this you need either : a HDD in you ps2 with HDLoader, or burn it onto a DVD9 and read it with a little program called ESR (you need to install a little hack on your memory card, but no need for a modship!! SearchFree MC boot on google for info), or use a modship to read the backup.
Finally you can't use a drumstick as drums, but if you like that kind of game, buy one outta ebay, it's pretty cheap now and you can sell it afterwards if you don't want it anymore since it's PS3-compatible. that way you can enjoy drums with Rock Band, Rock Band Track Pack vol. 1 and vol.2, ACDC Live trackpack and Guitar Hero World Tour….
