SiNNERS just pred this very popular (but unliked by me) movie Robocop in HD! Many of you probably either saw this on DVD or on TV but now you get to enjoy it in the glory of 720p ;) Great video and kick ass DTS audio so you can enjoy it in the best quality possible.

In the aftermath of economic and moral collapse, the city of Detroit has become a cesspool of crime and anarchy, forcing the underfunded police to fall under the stewardship of corporate juggernaut OCP. In his first day patrolling Old Detroit, Officer Alex Murphy is killed by feared gang leader Clarence Boddicker. OCP scientists are able to use Murphy’s remains to build a cybernetic soldier codenamed Robocop. Dubbed the future of law enforcement, Robocop begins a one-man war on crime. When memories of his former life begin to surface, Robocop becomes obsessed with tracking down Boddicker and claiming revenge, even as his handlers try to rein him in.

    Great film. Too bad everything else Verhoeven made is total and utter crap including Showgirls and the painful bad Starship Troopers.

    Robert A Heinlein is still rolling in his grave from that terrible, terrible film Starship Troopers. I sure a lot of fan boys will defend will defend this abortion of a movie but these are the same people who are fans of every Arnie movie. These are the same sort of people that would marry their cousin and live in a red state that voted Bush.

    Criterion released the directors cut dvd back in 1998 in a different aspect ratio 1.66 the non criterion dvd theatrical editon with the aspect ratio of 1.85.

    Is this based on the criterion source or the other 1.85 source?

    This movie totally rocks! I recently downloaded an XviD of it to relive old memories and now this!!! If you haven’t seen this movie you totally need to grab it.

    Also, for those of you wondering if older movies look good in HD… just realize that just because the movie is old doesn’t mean it won’t look good in HD. Traditional film (from cameras, etc) can be rescaned at a higher resolution than most digital cameras. The same goes for film, assuming they clean up the film and remove the specks and dirt, etc.

    I have the answer:

    The bluray is based on the r rated theatrical cut and not the unrated directed cut criterion source.

    Yes as all movies shot on film are in essence high definition because film is high definition. its only made SD when its put onto media like DVD or VHS or transmited onto standard TV.

    Film cameras cant be HD or SD as those are digital definitions Film cameras are analog.

    @19: What he meant to say is that 35mm film resolves to a much higher native resolution than 1080p, which is the current industry standard for full HD. In effect, when you make a transfer from 35mm to digital, you’re actually downsampling the quality to get it to “HD” resolutions.

    @2: Read the above message to #19. So yes, it does make a difference, even with old movies.

    Just watched the sample (the ED209 presentation) and too bad it’s not the Criterion… after the guy lands on the table there’s just a shot of ED as he continues to fire a fue more rounds. In the Criterion version there are “some” more bullet hits :) To bad there probably woun’t be a Directors Cut in HD (though I really hope so) I think I’ll hold on to my Criterion DVD and wait and see what happens.

    #2 has a perfectly valid point.
    While its true that film can be scanned at any resolution, older film isnt always on the best film stock or in the best condition through age. Many older films just wont ever be nearly as sharp as modern stocks and they also need to be specifically mastered for hi-def which doesnt seem to be happening much.
    Many of the 1080p releases lately havent even been as good as a proper 480p scan.

    question: when these BluRay movies are sampled over is there a loss in quality through compression ? Or is cutting out alternate languages and whatnot enough to save so much space…or is it that most BluRay movies aren’t taking advantage of the format ?

    anyway, never watched “show girls” becouse the title himself scream’s “this is a pile of shiyat”.

    and total recall wasn’t that bad, it was medium.
    starship was pretty nice, it was ridiculous, but the fighting scenes were the higlight of the movie, and that what interest me.

    btw u seem to like arnie very much, so let me ask u something, what u consider to be he’s best movie? i’m curious to see if u have taste or just goe’s with the flow.

    Do us a favor please, check if the release is new before posting.

    Also, Robocop in 720p was already released in 2006!

    u know the difference between HDTV and a HDRip (whether from HDDVD or BluRay)?? these are completely different sources. thats why its a brand new scene release.

    the discs couldn’t be ripped before because of BD+ protection which has been cracked 1-2 days ago.

    just extracted the first 6 parts and checked the movie:

    its def not the sinners release. it has AC3 audio, sinners rel is supposed to have DTS audio. the picture quality isn’t also that great, could be a hdtv rip.

    btw, sinners included the wrong year, robocop was released in 1987.

    I agree! From now on, the editors shouldn’t post anything that’s more than 10 minutes old! I demand that the Releaselog staff have someone scanning for new releases 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so that they can post about new releases the second they hit the net. In fact, I demand that you hire a psychic so that you can post about new releases BEFORE they’re released!!!

    @56 most of what is posted here that may be old is stuff some people never had a chance to see. the old stuff is the best stuff anyhow they didn’t use computers to create large armies of aliens most of it was straight acting and story lines. besides I love to see those flicks in the original state then remastered as a bluray on my 55 inch surround sound, it’s the beauty of home entertainment. I love releaselog keep it moving dawg gimme sumo

    Bluray – force people to buy players, HDTV…along with 2009 all digital next year..have you heard the term “coercion”..all I care about is will the 200 AVI to DVDs I have burned will work on my new HDTV..I don’t want to have to DL 200 10G files to replace them..does anyone have the answer t0 that one? Are these TVs backward compatible..see most people in Bush’s Recession don’t have the bucks here to know yet, lol
