RLSLOG search: Google or Custom?

I’ve changed the search form in the right menu from a custom in-house search to Google Search. The reason for this was that standard Wordpress search is sometimes not working too well, displaying totally irrelevant results. I received few complaints about it, however, after the change to Google, another group of people sent me a feedback that they don’t like the new search engine. The main reason is that Google doesn’t sort the results according to the time of post, as the old search did.

Please vote in the poll displayed in the right menu or leave a feedback here in comments and we will decide which one is the way to go.

UPDATE: OK, I guess it’s more than obvious the majority of our visitors prefer the old Custom search so I will switch back to it. You can always use Google with one extra “rlslog” keyword after all…

Why not a drop down list giving the option to use the old or google? Then both parties should be satisfied.

You could create two seach bars or have a drop down list so it will satisfy both parties equally.

The best way to search through RLSLOG.net is to go to Google and type in “site:rlslog.net keywords go here” without the quotes.

Google is much better. Ive always used google to search rlslog.net. The same way as #106

I can never find anything i want using the custom search as searching for posts with more then one word will return anything matching either word.

    For example…

Searching “Donkey Punch” in the custom search will return anything with “Donkey” OR “Punch” in the title.

    Custom search is crap.

Can’t believe I am going to do this because it always bugs me when people complain but something about this hit a nerve.. I feel I just have to say it so here goes, ( and again please allow me to apologize in advance)

What in the !@$!#$!# are you guys thinking over there?!?!?!
A google search??? If I wanted to search using google I would go to Google…You said people asked for that…?.. so obviously that means there are people who dont know how to do it on thier own so I decided to write some custom directions to help out those that need it.

    #1. go to google

    #2. search.

I have put more detailed instructions below for those who need it.
I have also recorded a quick instructional video that is available free of charge for those that need it also,
( to get yours please go to
http://www.ifIamthefutureweareallroyalyscrewed dot com and request a video by yelling your address to your computer screen)

    #1. go to google
#2 using the mouse you are going to put the mouse (the plastic one that came with the computer not the one real one living in your wall)on top of the mouse pad .
#3. moving it around you want to make the cursor stop on top of the box that says search .
#4 click the left mouse button ( remember to hold your hands up to use the trick that reminds you which is left and which is right if you don’t know)
#5.type in the words on the movie poster you saw

etc etc it’s late and has been a long day so I can’t be as smarta@@ed and thorough as I am normally but hopefully you get the point.

next time before you do something you think is great it can’t hurt to brainstorm with a friend ..and if you did and that friend agreed then you need to find a smart friend because if I have learned anything as a paramedic it is this.

1 dumb person can live a semi long life if they have a smart friend around to stop them frrom doing something dumb..
2 dumb friends together only get dead and usually from something really ignorant like drinking rubbing alcohol

What a big deal? Just add a checkbox next to the search button for google search.

@ 113 (S.M.): I’m having trouble with #3. I’m holding my mouse in front of the monitor & waving it around, but the cursor wont move so i cant get it onto the box that says search. And before you ask, yes i am using my plastic mouse that came with computer (the other one bit me & ran away).

I find if i bang the mouse on the desk then the cursor jumps about a bit, but its hard to control where it goes.

Have a radio button so users can choose. The code for this is quite simple and is implemented on a few sites.

    Hi

Please make a custom search that returns full articles when used like this:

    http://rlslog.net/?s=%20&cat=2,4,11,14,19,22

Alternatively, please make the categories selectable with checkboxes!
Look here how to do that:

A tip for those that prefer google is to use this syntax in google search:
    site:rlslog.net “keyword”

This will limit the displayed results to this site only.

Google Custom Search filters the results better. It don’t give us the results by time. But if got it more rapidly what’s the need to know the time they were posted??
