RLSLOG Forums: launched!
I’m happy to announce the official RLSLOG Forums is launched, two days after we initially announced it here! It was a rather busy weekend for me – I received about 10 serious offers from people who were willing to host the forum for us. I had to choose the best hosting option, setup all the logins and details, edit DNS settings for RLSLOG, install the Forum, setup all the categories, user groups, their permissions and so on. Anyway, it’s ready now and we are eager to see the first posts.
RLSLOG Forums are located at FORUMS.RLSLOG.net. I think that hosting it at this simple address will be better than registering an extra domain. You need to register and confirm your email in order to post there. The great thing is that the website and forums are running on two separate, completely independent servers, so when one of them goes offline, the other website will be always ready to tell you what’s wrong.
This whole project is at the very beginning and I’m still not too sure what to expect from it, but it may be a nice way to create even friendlier community around this website. It will depend a lot on you as well…
Edit: We’re working on the Forums’ speed, it’s getting hit by hundreds of new members so it may be little slow now.

Unfortunetly it is slow, about 10-15 seconds to process a request. I filled out the registration form completed before the captcha image loaded.

It’s likely slow due to IPB. that stuff is by far the slowest forum software out there. Vanilla is king, SMF is good as well.

At that speed it’s kinda useless … ur already about to hit 1000 simultaneous users. This needs better servers to host it!
Anyway congrats, and it should be a helpful tool once it’s running at a decent speed.

I give it another 5-10 minutes before the whole thing just gives way and dies under the load. You can’t be using some cheapo shared hosting or budget server with that many users

Lots of complains about speed – I found it okay. Not everything has to be ‘instant’ nowadays.
Well done RLSlog… glad we didn’t have to wait a month before being tantalized with forums and their actual creation. Good work rate, and appreciated.

@47. The confirmation page states in the next 10 minutes you’ll receive an e-mail to respond to. While it states ‘usually immediately’, I imagine that is after two weeks of existence, and not when 80+% of RLSLog’s users are currently attempting to set up their forums account! I’m awaiting my e-mail too. <— practising twiddling thumbs

Very nice but I have to agree on the very slow part! Hope it really is all the registration but you should get used to that amount of traffic!

If I sign up does it log all my pages viewed because I was just about to make steps to prevent that ? how offen will details about users IPS be deleted ? if I decide to quit using the site does my information get deleted ?

Hopefully the forum may be a little more constructive than some of the threads/comments left by ppl using Rlslog. 1 of the worst offenders has got to be the Assasins Creed posts. I hope the forums are going to be policed (for want of a better word lol) as many of the posts ppl leave when using Rls are just dribble and dont need to clutter up the constructive posts. It makes reading through trying to find the important stuff a ball ache at times. So on that note Im hopefull (and glad) that we have a forum. Lets hope its constructive and is here to stay.!!

Forum is slowest i’ve ever seen. Kind of a dissapointment. And I haven’t got a confirmation email and it’s been 30 minutes.

If you have trouble with the registration varification email just resend it.
( got tired of waiting after a long and hard minute, pressed the resend button and voila a second later it was in my inbox )

It would be nice to know how long the present 135+ members waited for their verification e-mail. I tried the resend recommended above, but am still to receive the e-mail 64 minutes after registration. If the current members received their within the stated expected time to receive, then the rest of us waiting for in excess, can expect an error occured on our registration.

Im not sure how well any bulletin software is going to work with the amount of traffic this site gets almost all bulletin software is very cpu intensive.

once logged in, then click “resend validation email” on the top of the forum. you cannot post until you’re validated
I think the mail server has died now, I’m still waiting for my validation e-mail.
If the server is already having load issues on the first day then that must be a bad sign.

97 minutes. 2 resends. No verification e-mail. Can log in to the site but cannot update profile, post or anything until verified… but at least you can see the layout, format, faq etc. Will revisit in 5 hours, after which I may have got the e-mail. Good luck to y’all!
It appears threatening to give up works! Just received confirmation e-mail. I suppose the staff wouldn’t appreciate it (help add to server overload) if I recommended you repeat your “resend verification e-mail” from your profile after logging in if you don’t receive in the stated 10 minute time period. I’m in now..

Got my validation a sec after resending the email.
I received the confirmation email in under 2 minutes. It’s more than likely your email client that is the issue.

Nvm my previous post. Even though I haven’t recieved a validation email I could still login with my username/password. Then from inside I could click resend the validation mail and received it instantly. So anyone still waiting for the validation mail might wanna try that.

I registered myself yesterday, but ’till now I didn’t receive the e-mail to confirm the account…
I’ve been saying “forum” for ages. But not a separate site, that’s going to be very weird to manage, and what, we have to visit 2 sites to participate? Very odd.. hope it works, but must say I have doubts.
My suggestions was to turn THIS site into either forum, or a registration-only blog. Get with it – “cookies” man. We log in once and a “remember me” keeps us logged in, so it’s just like open posting, nothing changes.
Ppl have to register on the forum now anyway, so what’s the difference? Oh well, good luck with it, just sounds weird and unnecessary to me.
Yess… hmm, sorry but I don’t have time to check TWO sites for stuff, one is quite enough. I guess there will be those who want to chat, that’s fine.. but they can still do it here, so why go there? I don’t get it.

Funny, wonder how other sites get by, like rslinks and xhgc18? They don’t have ANY posts and they post lots of stuff. Must work for em in some way or other. I guess it’s the unique hits not the posts that matter for advertisers… they don’t care about the chat, they just want viewers.

Thanks for setting up the forums. Been waiting for something exactly like this. This blog is great but forums will allow people to discuss things more in depth. I think they are a great addition and like you said if they don’t work out they don’t work out. But I think they will be really helpful. Thanks again!
