RIAA lawsuing 10-year-old girl

The more you read about RIAA, the better image of how stupid these guys really are you get. Their latest target: Kylee Andersen, 10 year old girl from Oregon. She was 7 when the alleged infringement occurred, and whose disabled mother lives on Social Security. “It is not our intention to target children ,” said Peter Jamieson disingenuously, not long after the news broke that the Big 4 were suing Briana. He runs the BPI (British Phonographic Industry), another industry owned RIAA-style organization. Although it’s not their intension, they do it again and again. These children usually don’t know a difference between downloading a movie from internet or asking parents to buy it, but that’s something that RIAA can’t probably realize.

“The RIAA is insisting on deposing Tanya Andersen’s 10-year-old daughter in Atlantic v. Andersen, in Oregon,” says Recording Industry vs The People, where can be found more information about this case. To be deposed is to be questioned by a lawyer or lawyers under oath. And in cases such as the ones being brought by the RIAA, it’s guaranteed to be a fearsome experience – certainly not one any child of 10 should be exposed to except in the most extreme circumstances. I’m just asking myself what can we expect next…

    “America… FUCK YEAH!”

felt like Team America moment, since shit like this can only happen there lol, ppl sue each other for “sports”… blah I hope RIAA gets shut down, the behaviour in RIAA should be illegal, besides ppl should have right to make back ups/previews/and NOT to be forced to purchase all of the total crap they’re pushing in the market… guess the dicks at RIAA get their hard-ons by harassing little children.

  10. March 31st, 2007 | 10:57

Interesting how many sites containing legal but ’subversive’ information [such as 2600.com] are being blocked by school filters because they can have a negative effect or otherwise impact the child in a negative manner and lead to long-term damage [which I think is bullshit, anyway.] But if a multi-corporate racketeering firm does it, that’s quite alright.

I also suspect they have somebody opening the phone-book at random to select who they’re suing next.

  11. I started downloading at 7 years old :)
    March 31st, 2007 | 11:03

I started downloading at 7/8 years of age. (I’m almost 16 now)

Back then it was 56k FTW! Man was that crappy. One song on Napster in about 20 minutes. Nowadays its about a whole album in 20mins of course :)

And FUCK THE RIAA and their stupid money love.

Why doesn’t someone just sue the RIAA for a change? Could the whole of the internet sue them, class action style?

I wonder whether they’re really that stupid or they just prefer to ignore the fact that they’re fighting windmill’s. The internet is the true voice of the people nowadays, if the internet-folk decide they want “piracy”, no one can stop them, trying will only help improving the methods.

I dont think that the people want “piracy” its just very convenient nowadays when the cds/dvds are overpriced and full of drm.

I can’t believe that the mediaindustry totally missed the internet as a distribution form for their music/movies. It’s like the CEOs stuck their heads in the sand when they found out internet existed, and now they are suing their potential customers left and right.

When they build up a system that people are happy with and fair they will regain some credibility, now i just feel sorry for them they act like kids that dont get any candy.

Suing somneone doesnt mean you win nothing guarantees a Judge will back the RIAA, people in the legal system DO NOT like children been involved and do not like doing thinsgs that affect children I could see most Judges throwing the RIAA out like the dogs they are.

They are just pissed that just about anyone can get just about anything for free of the internet. I think that some things should be for free. We shouldn’t have to pay shitty ass prices
say like “21.99″ for a fucking out dated DVD that I didn’t even like in the first place from a shitty store that they don’t even keep clean. If anything your ass should be paying me.

NO judge will accept this lawsuit. It’s unethical. Believe me.

    March 31st, 2007 | 18:41

Poor girl :( I think we should just boycott the industry. Quit buying and listening to their shit. If everyone stopped buying from them, then they might realize “WOW we really did still sell alot of music even with the pirating. Wish we wouldn’t have sued all of our customers.”
I wish I could get back all of the money I spent on movies and cd’s\tapes. I would have enough to take a year long vacation. When I was young I bought alot of tapes. After about 10 plays in a cassette player tapes are useless, so I no longer have them, but if I get caught with the music that I have on my PC, I will get charged for all of it, not just the stuff that I haven’t purchaced in the past. Bullshit Sorry for rambling, but these people really piss me off…

They are still asleep.(RIAA) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. If we don“t by anymore and just download for free _ they will be forced to understand. The do not understand that they have to deliver quality and lower the price. A lot of videos on the internet are crap quality so it is a huge potensial.

When they scare people like this they only make us angry.

The will not win in the long run.

just to think that someone actually went ahead with it…not, “ohh crap this is a 10 yr old girl, with a disabled mother…m,aybe we should back off…” thats real tough there RIAA…its pathetic.

hey why dont we go to FYE.com and purchase movies/cd’s at ridiculous prices….like some new dvd release for 22.99 plus tax…yeah, right…

  27. April 1st, 2007 | 03:02

I’ve been DL Mp3s and Movies for many years, back when MP3s were only on Ratio’d FTP sites. Now Movies rule my collection. I am suprised literally how these agencies catch so many people violating there ass-i-nide laws. I bit of discretion and proper computer protection and it is not likely your name will ever come up on thier Radar. I will say that the music industry is going in the right direction, offer more for the money, technology is cheap, we know it, Drop your prices or offer more content. $21.99 for a DVD that cost less than a $1.00 to produce and market is unacceptable in any economy. Peace!

I thought downloading songs was okay to do…hell every internet service provider brags about their speed when it comes to downloading movies and music. Have you seen the Sympatico commercials in Canada? The two dumb beavers talk about downloading music and movies much faster. What movies and music are they referring too? This is sending the wrong message to 10 year olds. If it’s illegal (and it is) then corporations like Bell and other ISP’s should not be advertising and promoting high speed downloads. Don’t even get me started on the the 4 gigabyte cell phones that hold 10,000 songs.

    April 2nd, 2007 | 17:00

man, this is ugly. i’m not much into music, but i gotta point out that at least 50% of the movies are made to be no more than a bait for your dough and it’s just too convenient for the many filmmakers out there who do or want to follow the same path of easy cash to have rabid watchdogs like RIAA haunt everyone who dares to find out what’s the contents of his potential purchase. considering “piracy”, i’d say filmmakers get, at the very least, as much financial feedback as they deserve. so why not let the internet be fuckhead-free?

Damn right. Step into a any real Moscow, Russian home and what do you see: full tower PC fully upgraded for gaming and downloading, the fastest internet money can buy, full stereo setup, and the largest flat-panel lcd tv/monitor on the wall.

DOWNLOAD –> listen, watch, game and REPEAT. Try going into Russia, you RIAA cowards–think the Interpol will step in?!

Media piracy is perhaps the only piracy that balances the scale of consumer/producer/merchant so perfectly. RIAA and the media industry needs to start THINKING about how to please the consumer.

    Damn right.
