ReviewMe: Moshable Music

A reader of RLSLOG asked us to review his new website through ReviewMe service and I think many of you could like this new project.

Moshable Music located at moshable.com is a website for music fans. It collects information about less known and mostly independent music bands from all over the world. All bands are nicely organized according to the music genre and you can usually read a bit of info about their music. It’s basically MySpace for music bands and if this project gets a little more attention, it could be pretty useful for music community. Each band’s page usually includes few samples of their songs, which can be instantly downloaded for free.

The other features of Moshable Music includes listings of Upcoming shows (mostly in the US), band pictures and photos with hundreds of images and a bulletin board called Mosh Pit which can be used for communication between bands and their fans. There’s also an official blog with music video clips and finally a page called “Bandmates” – this is a good place to check if you need a new band member or if you’re a free artists willing to join a new music formation.

The website is still in Beta and it doesn’t contain that much info yet, but it will probably change pretty soon as it’s a really new project. You can get access to even more interesting features by making a free account. If you’re looking for clean and useful website discovering new bands, Moshable is a good place to start.

So it’s like myspace for “music bands”? I can think of another site like myspace for “music bands”, it’s called myspace.

    Thanks for the review Martin!

I’m really glad you liked the site. A lot of people put a lot of work into it, I’m really big into music so for me this was an opportunity to build what I consider my dream music community site. So far so good, but I’m really hoping it takes off. It’s already a lot of fun.

    Thanks again,
    Eli

Being in an indie (recently signed) band myself I’ve seen all the websites out there for exposure. back in the day it used to be Mp3.com which is now dead, there was also GarageBand.com that never really took off, then PureVolume.com got more popular… but out of all of them Myspace.com exposure is hands down the best you can get.

but best of luck to you Eli! and also your top band is someone making fun of techno… how did that happen?

Some constructive criticism…In my opinion, the colors don’t clash. Other than that the site looks great.

    HEY LOOK!!

RLS log now uses it’s posts to advertise sites and make it look like it is a post. After the last time RLS tried to get users to sign up for credit cards and other things…

You can ban me permanently for expressing the truth, but it is not just me. You will go down if you keep sneeking in spam on this site.

Do you know how RLS is regarded around the web? Don’t make it worse. Please no more spam.

What ever happened to RLS telling the new hot scene releses?
Now I guess RLS tell about sites that help them advertise.

I guess if you pay or give ads to RLS they will say you are a great site.
For a second there I almost thought you were honest Martin. My mistake.

I forgot to add in my post the only site that I think will make the test of time is http://www.last.fm because they offer something that no other website does, you get to see your listening habbits with their software/plugins and find new music by being connected to people with similar taste and seeing what they listen to etc…

@13 – At least call it the correct name… We aren’t RLS, I’ve never heard of RLS… We are known as Rlslog, or ReleaseLog. And do you know how “RLS” is regarded around the web, because theres more sites then ever copying us and stealing our content, so it can’t be all bad.

Too bad their mp3 upload form doesn’t work. Regardless of tags (or tags removed), it only gives the same error message:

Invalid file type. Please only upload MP3 files. audio/x-mpeg

There was a similar problem at Last.fm, but it was due to the APE tags that some newer mass tagging programs add to mp3s by default. Removing them fixed the problem.

However, at Moshable, even after removing all tags from the mp3s, it would not accept them. Doesn’t matter if it’s a VBR, ABR or CBR file.

Hi TJ, I got your message. We’ll work on that. Your the first to have a problem with it so if you wanted to email the mp3 file to me eli at moshable.com maybe i can take a look at it and use it to help make the system more compatible. Thanks buddy.

It’ll be nice if you put there full albums with cover and reader’s reviews.
Improve design (I think that this blue color sucks ;)
