Results of Oscars, 80th Academy Awards

You all most likely already know the results but we somehow didn’t post the final details of this years Oscar ceremony and I’m sure it will create a lot of buzz and discussion in the comments: Two of the most imaginatively twisted minds in modern film, Joel and Ethan Coen, completed their journey from the fringes to Hollywood’s mainstream on Sunday as their crime saga “No Country for Old Men” won a leading four Academy Awards, including best picture. The Coens’ brooding, bloody tale of violence in a desolate corner of west Texas was the American standard-bearer for an Oscar show that otherwise had an international flair. All four acting prizes went to Europeans: Frenchwoman Marion Cotillard, the best-actress winner for “La Vie En Rose”; Spaniard Javier Bardem, who took supporting actor for “No Country”; and Brits Daniel Day-Lewis and Tilda Swinton, he claiming his second best-actor honor for “There Will Be Blood,” she winning supporting actress for “Michael Clayton.”

Adding to the international Oscar flavor, the animation winner was a U.S. film set in a Paris restaurant, “Ratatouille.” The best-song recipient was a tune written by the Irish and Czech stars of a micro-budgeted romance set in Dublin, “Once.” The globe-trotting thriller “The Bourne Ultimatum” swept all three of its categories, film editing, sound editing and sound mixing. Other winners included three films set around Britain and Europe: “Atonement” (music score), “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (costume design) and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” (art direction). As singer Edith Piaf in “La Vie En Rose,” Cotillard became the first performer ever to win an Oscar for a French-language film. Backstage, she crooned a bit of a Piaf song in French and described the task she had in playing the singer from her fiery teens to her fragile 40s. You can watch the whole ceremony in the release we posted few moments ago – and we will probably bring you even more Oscar-related releases soon.

Best special effects to The Golden Compass??Should’ve been Transformers,no doubt!
300 didn’t get even a single nomination. It should’ve been nomainated for special effects.
Nice to see Bourne Ultimatum winning a few though.

There will be Blood should have won. It’s easily the best movie of this decade.
And 300’s effects weren’t anything special at all. Slow motion after slowmotion.
Audio and editing Oscars went to right movie. Bourne Ultimatom.
Daniel Day-Lewis role on There will be Blaod is just outstanding. I’m still Amazed.
Shame Assassination of Jesse James won nothing :(

Much like every other oscar awards, lots of movies that were complete shyte got nominated and stuff. Thankfully, a REAL MOVIE won best picture, NCFOM.

But, I ask, where was Shoot Em Up? Where was Superbad? Oh ya, they don’t pick em by how good they are, they pick em by how high brow they are, how high class. You’ll never see an Oscar awards show that awards the best movies that everyone likes. Just the movies that the old, rich stuffy artards that do the judging like. I’m truly amazed that NCFOM won, I thought for sure the Elizabeth movie or that artarded teen movie Juno would win.

18 & 21- agreed, there will be blood was my favorite of ‘07 and perhaps one of the best in the past several years. I just saw it a second time the other day and noticed moreso how flawless the movie was. The acting and direction was incredible.

Loved all the movies for this year. Thanks RLSlog for bringing them to me. I loved the part when Once actress and singer Marketa was called back to say her thank you speech. If it wasn’t done i would have been angry with the Academy. To be honest for the first time i felt the oscars were for the art that is movie making. La viva en rose…. gotta see that, i thought ellen page was wonderful and she was a fav, but the art was put b4 fame so marion cortilad won…..Forgive me if the names were misspelled.. It was fun watching the Oscars. Like the acceptance speech marketa it is possible to achieve what they say impossible…..

I am glad that some of you are on the same page as me.
It does seem like movies are getting worse every year. And it it is very strange indeed to see a movie like “300″ not getting nominated for any category. It was one of the best pictures ever made.
And that “No country..” has won is just shamefull really.
How can you compare a movie like “No country…” to say a classic like “The Godfather”. And still it has won one oscar more than “The Godfather”. It is a real outrage.

there will be blood is best in decade?
It was not that good movie imho…
Acting of Lewis was totaly awesome and flawless, but the scenar and story missed something… all the time in that movie i missed some heading… things there just flow…

  37. boast
    February 25th, 2008 | 21:41

the bigger robbery was not nominating Johnny Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood. it was deemed ineligible because it contains two minutes of music written for his 2006 experimental symphony.

  49. KappaX
    February 26th, 2008 | 02:43

@45 It was actually released march 2007

Its visual effects should have been nominated especially when The Golden Compass won that category. But other than that it shouldn’t have been nominated for any other categories. I think “Meet the Spartans” would have won more awards than 300

I found those foreign films interesting. I always prefer to watch films in other languages because the emotion of the characters comes thru much better, when you have no clue how a line’s suppose to sound. With that said, anyone know if anyone group released any of those foreign films? :)

i cant believe these fanboys gushing over 300. if they were actually homosexuals (seriously) i will understand. but there’s nothing ’special’ about oversaturated comic-book graphics. not to mention how awful and infantile the script was. sorry.

on the other hand, i feel awful for pta. twbb had some pretty dammn good moments, but i think it was overall what they call a ‘flawed masterpiece’. you can see the look on his face when they announced the best director. but come to think of it, coens had won best dir thrice! (most ever) at cannes already. it wouldnt look good if pta got awarded the oscar before they were (not that its impossible for them to dismiss genuine talents far too long (marty) or even entirely (kubrick))

I cannot stand the oscars. A load of mediocre talentless fools patting each other on the back for their own self gratification isn’t something that interests me. Also the movies are getting so crap!!
No Country for Old Men./ what a heap of steaming turd that was and yet it won so much??
As for ‘300′ the people gushing over thjat obviously have no idea…
Ever since Tarantino, movies have gone downhill…

There will be blood was sooooo boring. I mean geezus, I saw it 3 times and fell asleep midway for 3 times. I am so glad it didn’t win. I never even blinked for “No Country for Old Men”. That movie rightfully won.
