ModeZerox is right: power failures are a common cause of lost partitions. Programs like this (I haven't tried this one) can often recover all, if not most of the files on NTFS formatted disks. I have personally used Handy Recovery twice and it did a very good job.

This baby is a life saver. I've used an earlier version some years ago to save 200Gb of data of an NTFS disk that got its partition table scrambled due to power failure.

This IS a must. If your disk goes bye bye.. This might save you ;)

@4 Smikis,

This program and Windows restore are nothing alike. The Windows restore attempts to put your system back the way it was when the restore point was created by rolling back registry changes and such. This program is supposed to allow you to recover deleted files, or files from a damaged disk.

About data recovery; I love how these companies try to make it sound like their program can work miracles on any file system that they support, even FAT16/32 drives. The simple fact is that it's not possible to recover files of any significant size from a fragmented FAT16/32 formatted drive.
