Redesigned MySpace to be introduced next week

MySpace will unveil next week a large-scale redesign that will alter major components of the social-networking site, like its home page, navigation scheme, search engine and video player. On Wednesday, MySpace users will see the first phase of the redesign, which has been in the works for the past six months, according to the company. MySpace, the world’s most popular social-networking site, expects the changes to boost user engagement by making the site easier to navigate. MySpace is routinely criticized by users and observers for a layout that many consider visually strident and messy. Its members have many options to alter their profile pages, such as changing their background color, adding hyperactive animations, using fonts of many sizes and colors and plastering them with videos and photo slideshows.

As part of the redesign plans, MySpace has conducted surveys, performed usability tests and gathered focus groups. In addition to revamping the home page, MySpace is also changing the profile editor to make it easier for members to design and decorate their profile pages. The profile pages will also undergo renovations. Meanwhile, the search engine interface is getting a more streamlined layout, an enhanced relevancy algorithm and a tabbed results page including categories like people, MySpace site, Web, music and video. In addition, the video player is gaining new controls and support for Flash 9 full-screen mode. Facebook is also busy these days toiling away at a major redesign of its member profile pages, which it has previewed and which it hopes to roll out at some point this month.

    @4: Both useless sites?

Facebook - allows me and friends at university to arrange things in groups, allows parties to be more easily promoted.

MySpace - the amount of shows i’ve arranged for bands over this, i’ve sorted most dates for tours just via myspace rather than email. if you know what to look for MySpace is an unbeatable resource for promoters worldwide as well as new and upcoming labels and other things.

So before you criticise either site - how about think why they’re still around today? idiots

oh and both allow me to keep in touch with friends from back home or wherever they are now much more easily than writing a letter, paying for a phone call to them or e-mailing them to see if they’ve been up to anything.

who actually bothers with these type of sites now days

Hence the reason myspace went down the tubes thom. Every page takes forever to load because people feel the need to embed every graphic and video they can find. Then %90 of the mail being exchanged is unwanted SPAM from upcoming “artists”.

They’re still around today for the pedos to masterbate to 11 year olds in bikinis and for college kids to find new clam.

@11 - Perhaps it’s time to upgrade from 56k or whatever you’re on because it doesn’t take that long loading with me.

Multiple chat…….for gods sake people go outside, there is a real word.

myspace is good if your a producer/singer…, to promote yourself/band…

for many people myspace is a way to find out social events… band tours and promote groups… dj’s and keep and/or regain contact with friends old and new… if it’s too slow get a better connection… as many users as they have how can it be a failure???

@4 Maybe you need more friends and then it wont be useless.

@11 Faster connection - IE + Firefox + adblock = less junk and faster loading times. Problem solved

@15 Just because the option to chat is offered doesn’t mean you have to use it. If you get an email saying you need to buy Viagra would you? I spend a lot of time outside with friends but still use myspace.

I don’t know what most people’s problems are with this site but maybe if those people stopped criticizing it and realized that there are some benefits from it we wouldn’t have a problem.

i think myspace has a myriad of uses (good and bad), but some people need to take it less seriously.

it’s funny how some of you guys get so passionate about hating myspace; just as much as the people that love it and frequent the site.

I don’t have a myspace or facebook, and I plan to keep it that way, but just because I don’t care for either site, doesn’t mean they don’t have benefits for certain people. I like rlslog, some might not. Do I give a **it? No, I do not.
