actually,Reaper is far more advanced than you think. It has been excellently designed from the ground up to feature superb internal processing, as good as it’s competitors. The main thing lacking is the bundled plugins, but even these are as good as those that come with other ‘big name’ apps.
Well worth a go, trust me, and I use nuendo!!!!!
