The only DAW in this category to use is Ableton Live .. it took the AiR release group three tries but I think they have it down on Live 7.0.3 that just came out..and yes it will cost you around $500 with the box but it is like a Rolls Royce compared to this Pinto program here ..any serious techno musician will tell you that..Reason 4 rocks too..and so does the new Fruity Loops XXL 8!! These guys should leave posting DAW apps to magesy.com, lol

reaper is actually pretty darn good. its vst/vsti/dx/dxi support is a major bonus, its small, more flexible for routing than cubase and has almost all the features of the big name sequencers (time/pitch shifting, tempo/time signature changes, automation, multi-take loop recording etc.)

it doesnt look that pretty, but its relatively easy and quick to use, once youve got to grips with the interface.

oh and it can be run from an external drive (usb stick or whatever) so you can take it round to a friend’s house to get their input on a remix or something. mind you, you might need something bigger than a usb stick if youre recording at a half-decent bit-/sample- rate

thing is, its designed to be a cheaper alternative to the big names: a not-for-profit license is only $50, and they leave it up to the user’s conscience to pay the full $225 if (when?) you have a hit single. so its a bit mean to use the keygen really – in fact, you can even download the full version for ‘evaluation purposes’ from http://www.reaper.fm

so really, it’d probably be a bit more useful if you guys at rlslog could post about releases of less readily-available sequencers/music apps, like cubase or something.

oh and normally you wouldnt use reaper in conjunction with cubase. i have used both in the past, but never together – they both do the same job.

anyways, nice to see a music app post, regardless of my grumbles. oh and sorry to come off like an advert for reaper: in the interests of an honest balance, i should add that ive switched to apple’s logic pro, which is pretty awesome too

Good program for a beginner. Not ideal for someone with experience because the one huge difference between this and a pro level program is the inability to use DTS. But a solid app nonetheless.

It doesn’t suck at all. It’s very flexible and jam packed with features that should be more than enough for the average home recording artist. It’s also very affordable and updated very frequently. It’s also skinnable.
