Here is a really really good program that was just released by CRD. I personally have been using this program for years and dont think i could use dual screens without it. Enjoy 
UltraMon is a utility for multi-monitor systems, designed to increase productivity and unlock the full potential of multiple monitors. With additional window buttons, you can quickly move windows or stretch a window across the desktop. Use the Smart Taskbar to manage more applications, with a taskbar on each monitor and each taskbar only showing the tasks from the monitor it is on. Shortcut extensions make it easy to position applications on the desired monitor. The UltraMon screen saver and wallpaper manager make it possible to use a different wallpaper and screen saver on each monitor. It also includes a flexible mirroring feature (Windows 2000/XP only), with support for mirroring one or more monitors, and use different resolutions for each monitor.
• Window management
Quickly move windows between monitors or maximize a window to the desktop using the additional window buttons added by UltraMon.
• Smart Taskbar
UltraMon adds an additional taskbar for each secondary monitor, and each taskbar only shows tasks from the monitor it is on. This makes managing lots of open applications much easier, and when activating an application, you’ll know on which monitor it will appear.
• Application positioning
Use the UltraMon tabs added to a shortcut’s properties to set an application’s position or use custom display settings when the application is running.
• Display profiles
With display profiles, you can quickly change the settings of one or more monitors. You can also create a display profile that gets applied when logging in, especially useful when the computer is used by more than one person, and not everyone wants to use the same display settings.
• Desktop wallpaper
The UltraMon wallpaper manager adds the ability to use a different picture on each monitor, or stretch a single picture across the desktop.
• Screen savers
Most screen savers only run on the primary monitor. UltraMon can blank the secondary monitors when the screen saver is running, or run additional screen savers on secondary monitors.
• Mirroring
Mirror the primary monitor on one or more secondary monitors, for example when doing a presentation. A unique feature is support for different resolutions, the primary monitor can run at a higher resolution for example. Mirroring is only available on Windows 2000 and XP.
• Use more than 10 monitors
UltraMon provides a custom Display Settings applet with support for configuring more than 10 monitors. You can quickly configure even large numbers of monitors using the included monitor arrangement tools.

this is great software.
huh? I get this installation is not supported b your processor type error, I have a AMD X2 6000+ 3ghz Dual core, anyone else have that problem. (Running vista so that may be the problem too.)
i actually bought this program cause its amazing, and runs fine on vista sp2 here no problems

@11 Iit semi-works. it errors out on load but still shows up (in vista style) and for the most part works but it's indeed a horrible hack.

There is a 32-bit installer which is available from their website, and they have included a 64-bit installer in the package.
You have to use whatever your OS is running.

What is the point of this, really? I have dual screens and there is absolutely no need for either a stretched taskbar or dual desktops. Different wallpapers? Why the need? A nice dual screen massive wall is much nicer, as is also the case with screensavers

This program is one of the first to get installed on a fresh OS-install. I've used it for a number of years, and cannot live without it.
It's pretty cheap.

I second that, Ultramon is a sick peice of software. Means you can turn your primary monitor off (or use it for something else, eg, I play PS3 on my HDTV and also use it as my primary monitor) and still get full functionality from your secondary monitor.
Also lets you use dualscreen wallpapers and adjust for height difference etc if your monitors are next to each other, but thats all just superficial really. Immensely useful though.
O yeah, also lets you quickly change your primary/secondary monitors and set individual resolutions etc etc.
ehh…. I have XP with an ATI-Radeon, which already supports multi monitors….
Except for the two diff. screensavers and wallpapers om each desktop, it already does what this software offers: diff. res on each mon; seq. mon blanks out while screensaver some screensavers works on both screens (the in-build starfield from win is pretty impressive on two mon) etc.
Multi-mon offers me extra screensavers, two wallpapers and an extra taskbar….. ?

Ultramon is realy cool, the smart taskbar is very useful. Windows puts all your open windows in the same taskbar (main monitor) but Ultramon keeps the open windows in the actual monitor they're in.

I've been using Ultramon for a long time…that's until i found "DisplayFusion" which also works great in Windows 7.
