One of the most versatile voices in West Coast hip hop, Ras Kass has collaborated with everyone from Dr. Dre to the Wu Tang Clan. Currently serving time in California for breaking his probation, it hasn’t stopped Kazzy from releasing Institutionalized Vol. 2. Like last year’s Insitutionalized, this album is self released, away from Capitol-EMI records, who tried to prevent him from releasing it late last year. Featuring guest stars like Crooked I and the late Proof (of D12), this is an album any of RLSLOG’s hip hop heads should check out.
A living legend with a cult-like core following, Ras Kass stormed the scene with 1996’s Soul On Ice, garnering massive critical acclaim for his complex lyricism, sharp battle rhymes and witty punchlines. 1998’s follow-up, Rasassination, featured guest appearances by Dr. Dre, Xzibit, Twista & RZA (of Wu-Tang). In 2000, he formed the Four Horsemen, consisting of Canibus, Killah Priest and Kurupt to massive critical accolades and a fiery commercial reception. Currently serving time, Ras Kass now unveils the highly anticipated Institutionalized Vol. II, a testament to both Ras’ resilience and the raw skill that underlay his longevity within the ever changing hip-hop landscape.
