Rambo 2008 WS READNFO DVDRip XviD-PARTiCLE

I just wanted to give a quick notice about this 20min old release of Rambo 4: group PARTiCLE released a dvdrip of it although there’s already another dvdrip from FLAiTE, which hasn’t been nuked so far. The reason for this “proper” is a wide screen resolution: FLAiTE’s rip had aspect ratio of only 1.85:1 while this new version offers AR of 2.35:1 (standard theatrical resolution). The quality is very similar.

How can the two releases have different aspect ratios if they both claim to be a DVD rip - aka a rip of the official DVD? One release must be cropped?

  10. obmar
    May 18th, 2008 | 17:10

OK, the readme says the PARTiCLE has more picture horizontally and the FLAiTE release has more picture vertically. So, both are cropped.

Now, please make release that has the FULL picture, vertically and horizontally.

The DEViSE 2CD version is out of synch.
The best version is Rambo.2008.DVDRip.XviD-TDM. It has an aspect ration of 2.35:1 (640×272), with AC3 audio.
There’s an x264 version released by the same group if you want it in 700MB.

  25. seethis
    May 18th, 2008 | 17:39

    can’t you calculate, martin ?
    flaite’s release is 1.762:1, not 1.85:1

anyways, all these aspect ratios are widescreen, but finally this release has the proper AR

it’ll probably get nuked, though
because you can only tag it WS if the previous release was fullscreen…
and only 1.33:1 is considered FS !

More picture vertically in 1.78, but more horizontally in 2.35. Way better picture composition in 2.35. This is the real deal, just as the other instalments of the saga. The way it was meant to be seen.

Yes, there is. 2 stereo channels only in mp3. 5.1 in ac3. Great sound effects: music, gunfights, explosions, dialogues on the center channel, etc.

Once you’ve tested it, you cannot come back to stereo only.

These days most films are shot in 16:9 (or the close cinema equiv) and CROPPED when shown in the cinema by removing a slice of the picture from the top and the bottom. The reason for this is that cinema goers have been conned into thinking artificial widescreen is the same as real widescreen (films SHOT with a true widescreen lens).

The propaganda of the 80’s said that pan and scan VHS copies of films were lame (true). However, now the 2.35:1 DVD/BLURAY copy is the cropped version. Buying or distributing this cropped version is moronic, cos if you want to watch the film with a third plus of the picture missing, you can select that option on the media player when watching the 1.85:1 version. However, if you have the cropped version, there is no way in the world your media player can recover the missing picture.

BTW there’s a simple test as to the intended resolution. Does the 1.85:1 version have visible mike, power cables, crew shadows, or any other crap in the frame? If not, the director was careful to ensure that this frame was intended for public viewing. If there is rubbish in the top or bottom of the frame, the film was intended to be viewed cinema widescreen.

Forget how the cinema showed the film, and try using your brain when making a choice for home viewing.

This DVDRip, albeit pointless, actually is a valid release. Seeing as ALTERNATE versions (theatrical, special edition, etc) are allowed. They also used the READNFO tag to let people know, so I see no reason for this to get nuked.

But Like I said before, it’s still kind of pointless seeing as the first release actually contains MORE picture data. Guess it’s good for watching on a WS monitor without black bars though. :P
