R1/R5 Release Dates

We’ve all been using totaldvd.ru for all of our R5 release date needs, but sadly, the website hasn’t been updating its dates since April for some very strange reason :/ If anyone has a good website that provides R5 release dates, please leave a link in the comments :mrgreen: Below is a list of R5 dates that I’m not sure about, but its worth seeing what results we might get.

I figured it might be worth adding a R1 release date list so that we know about when to expect a DVDRip (this is the retail US date, in Russia these appear about 3 weeks before the American date) :D

    That R5 of Doomsday won’t do you any good since it’s already out, all we need is some descent audio.

    Also Bank Job, 21, Superhero Movie & Shutter are already out in either R5 or a really good TS.

    That list is basically dvd retail dates or the retail dvd is released before the r5 date..

    The Spiderwick Chronicles dvd retail date is June 24th 2008..

    is totaldvd.ru for retail dvd’s i thought that r5’s are dvd that came from a telecine machine with no image processing and special features like a raw copy

    An R5 is a warez release, made with a telecine machine from an analog source. Unlike a TC the digitization is performed by the studio itself with very professional (and expensive) equipment and usually from the original source. The purpose of it is to create a high quality digital copy (usually for a later DVD release). But unlike a DVD, an R5 is released before the digital post-processing is finished. The quality of the rips can differ, but an R5 can be almost indistinguishable from a DVDRip since many movies are published on DVD with minimal editing.

    The name R5 refers to DVD Region 5, which includes the former Soviet Union, the Indian subcontinent, and much of Africa. In an effort to compete with movie piracy in these areas, the movie industry chose to create a new format for DVD releases that could be produced more quickly and less expensively than traditional DVD releases. R5 releases differ from normal releases in that they lack both the image post-processing and special features that are common on DVD releases. This allows the film to be released for sale at the same time that DVD Screeners are released. Since DVD Screeners are the chief source of high-quality pre-DVD release pirated movies, this allows the movie studios to beat the pirates to market. Bootlegged copies of these releases are often distributed on the Internet.

    Simple question: Does anyone know of a site that lists R5 release dates other than the aforementioned totaldvd.ru? It would be a huge help.

    To clear it up for those who seem to be confused … and R5 (short for Region-5) is a Russian audio semi-good quality release, usually sent out to critiques and other such folks. When one leaks over into the scene world, a different audio source is used (as the original was Russian). This English audio source could be from a Cam ,workprint, etc … it’s synced up and voila. R5 in english.

    @38 … uhmm a lot of people actually. It’s the next best thing to a dvdrip so it allows people to watch the movie in good quality before its actually released to the public.

    Prezdead he was saying who cares about those dates not the releases themselves. Probably the reason they dont bother posting the release dates on that russian site is they are almost always wrong and infact only someone who knows nothing about how the R5 release system works would actualy care about the forecast dates anyway…

    however I do agree with you Marceli is defintly freaking.

    I love the double standard of the “admins” here!
    They feel it’s OK to call other posters any name they like and swear and carry on like a child yet if someone posts something negative towards a release/staff opinion, like Mr X with his slanted political views on life, that poster gets the post booted into the world of deletion. Then spammers abuse the site with sh!t and those posts get left. Is this site now a Police State or something?

    yeah ive notice totaldvd been awhile now not sure if they have updated site or not havent seen any for this month not that im bothered, july section looks good up in that list.

    I been looking more on comingsoon.net they got a dvd section an a film release but its american i think the film releases are whats coming out in cinema, but then i look on imdb aswell as you can get release dates by country too also cinema related though.

    i think too many R5 releases in other world worred DVD factory :) . R5 release sheets wiped out from internet, but in magazines they printed.
