Queens Of The Stone Age-Era Vulgaris (2007)

Group RTB brings us a hard rock album from band Queens of the Stone age called “Era Vulgaris”, this is their 5th album and its due to be released out next week. This should be good quality as its coming from RTB. I think its time for me to check a rock album out and this could be it…hopefully it wud be a good one. Rocker fans enjoy!

Latin for “common era,” Era Vulgaris holds a pair of common threads with the four Queens of the Stone Age records that preceded it. One, it crosses colossal guitar chords with the most volatile of hard rock melodies. And second, it’s as LOUD as loud gets, thanks to Josh Homme, the impatient instigator behind the ever-evolving cast of personalities that make up the band. Detonation comes with track one, as the jagged riffs of “Turning on the Screw” lead the listener into “Sick, Sick, Sick,” where Julian Casablancas spews his vocals beneath a wall of multi-guitar catcalls. Although the head Stroke will likely garner the most attention, perpetual Queener Mark Lanegan’s velvety pipes earmark two of Era’s most booming selections: the funky “Make It Wit Chu” (complete with Temptations-like backing vocals) and the heart-racing three minutes of “River in the Road.” Add the garage rock of Homme’s “3’s & 7’s” and “Suture Up Your Future,” easy pickings for most likely crossover hit, and Era Vulgaris– hypnotically and explosively common–holds its own with any in the QoTSA discography.

Era Vulgaris is the fifth full length studio album from American hard rock band Queens of the Stone Age. The album was completed in early April 2007 and is scheduled to be released on June 12, 2007 in the US, and June 18, 2007 in the UK. On June 6th 2007, Australian Supermarket Chain Big W started selling the album early. The album title Era Vulgaris refers to the Latin term for Common Era.

It sounds like “the Vulgar Era”, which I like, because that sounds like something that I would like to be part of…I mean I think we’re in it, and I’m stoked. –Josh Homme, Pitchfork interview, April 13, 2007

While 2002’s Songs for the Deaf was said to be inspired by Josh Homme’s tedious drive through the Southern Californian desert, the inspiration for Era Vulgaris came from the frontman’s daily drive through Hollywood. He describes the record as “dark, hard, and electrical, sort of like a construction worker”,”…it’s like dirt, clearly seen.”

Can’t decide if I like QotSA. I loved their first 2 albums but HATED “Lullabies To Paralyze”. Guess I’ll DL it and if I like it then I’ll buy it, if not I’ll just delete.

Wow an A.J. music post that I don’t hate or cringe at. Can I please ask rlslog to get some more people to do music to split his work load. I think a lot of the people would enjoy a ::ahem:: broader musical point of view (cut back on the teeny nu-rock bands).

Very good album, much better than the lullabies to paralyze. The sound is a lot different than the two last albums, and more like as their first, imho the best one.

Not so straightforward rock, more like avant gardish hard rock/grunge/electric of some sort

Art of keeping secert, if you like QOTSA, then you’re on the right path. Btw, did you mean, rated R… or the self titled album when you said “first”? :P To each their own, can’t go wrong with QOTSA!~!!

I love this album! And I loved Lullaby! But Ive got a question? When I listened Make It With Chu, I instantlly knew the chorus! Word by word! And the problem is I cant figure out where Ive heard it before. I know about the dessert sessions, but I swear to god; I have never heard that version! So my question is; has anybody else covered that song?

If you like QOTSA, then you should check out Joshs first band, Kyuss. As someone mentioned earlier as well, Mondo Generator is way bad ass, as is Eagles of Death Metal.
