Queen and Paul Rodgers – The Cosmos Rocks (2008)

Bigger than a house rockin’, bigger than your city rockin’, bigger than the country rockin’, even bigger than the whole Earth rockin’, here it is, the first new studio album involving Queen since 1995 and the entire COSMOS is rockin’.

Not like the boys haven’t been busy, a worldwide sold-out tour with singer Paul Rodgers in 2006/7, the worldwide smash hit rock musical We Will Rock You built around the music of Queen, the 46664 African AIDS charity they co-founded with Nelson Mandela, Brian May’s newly minted Doctorate in Astronomy, and, of course, their ever vibrant hits which continued to get played on radio stations ranging from Radio Disney to Classic Rock, with everything in between.

Queen’s newly re-organized Internet profile has immediate impact on the new Queen+Paul Rodgers release – 1.2 MILLION friends on iLike, 350,000 friends on Facebook with active sites and planned features on MySpace, Bebo, Buzznet and iMeem PLUS, for the first time, an official Queen YouTube channel programmed featuring clips which have already garnered over 60 million views!

The album includes the first single “C-lebrity”, the 46664 theme “Say It’s Not True” centerpieces “Still Burnin’”, “Time To Shine” and We Believe” and 9 more soon-to-be classics.

I agree with Mr Bad Guy.

Freddie was Queen and Queen was Freddie. Taylor, Deacon and May made up the rest of the band but without a front man like Freddie … it’s just not the same.

Just so people know, Paul Rodgers is my uncle so I know the band. Brian May is furious about new leaked Queen music, and he is getting the law involved, and tracking IP’s and ISP’s of anyone who downloads any Queen. He said close to 200 people have been contacted and are being fined majorly. For download at your own risk.

Paul Rodgers is a dreadful singer ,what the hell is brian may doing to the memory of this great band, its not like he can possibly need the money-he should have left well alone-listening to them live with rodgers murdering freddie classics is embarrassing.

lol @ 12 i wouldnt even bother downloading this album tbh. i have seen the great Queen 8 times i went to the tribute concert, i went to the garden parties , i went to Freddies birthday party, this is not a Queen album. This is a very very poor album. you can go to Brians website and listen to the tracks f free but after you have i doubt if you will bother to download the album let alone buy it ..Brian and Roger need to retire now or call the band another name, instead of cashing in on the Queen name..

One does not need hearing aids of any sort to know that this is not a Queen sound.
It does sound tired, overinflated and does not carry any integral energy, passion and depth of feeling that typified a classic Queen album.

Not many bands can survive when their lead singer passes on – AC/DC & Van Halen bucked that trend to varying degrees, but Mr Rogers, for all his involvement in this, cannot even begin to be compared with the sound that was Freddie Mercury.
Hell, Freddie not only had probably the best rock voice of any singer in any era, he even made classically trained Opera professionals sound tame when he exercised his full vocal range … and it was THAT range that made the Queen sound.

You coming on here and abusing others because they point out the obvious, does you no favours, nor that of the earnest, but ultimately doomed-to-fail emulation efforts of your ‘uncle ‘…..

I never said he sounded really good with Queen, if you read anything you would have noted I wasn’t comparing Paul to Queen. I think just because Freddie died his band mates shouldn’t have to quit. Although I agree with many of you Paul Rodgers isn’t the same as Freddie. Queen needs someone in the same way Journey found Arnell Patel. That little Thai boy sounds JUST like Steve Perry. So people can close their eyes and imagine Steve. Although if Queen was fronted by Will Smith or Chris Brown they would have a unique style too.

He owns a few houses that he rents out with his wife Cindy, who is my Aunt, its a small town called Summerland, BC in Canada, which I just moved to recently, and they are looking to get me a new house once they are back from their tour Near the end of December or early January. I don’t know his favorite restaurant in England, but if I did, how would that prove I’m his nephew? You seem to know, are you his nephew too?????

Who knows if it will be good but thanks, many of the RS links are still good… btw here’s my ISP let’s go buddy… I would never buy this if I saw in the store, but I will listen here. Instead of being rearend-hurt by a sagging market, pushing out crap and so on, how about being angry at the label for the ‘leak’ and be a little happy about some free advertising and possibly increasing your fan-base. In Thailand a street-boot is 80 baht ($2.42) and in the store 120 baht ($3.63),maybe America (and Europe?) should re-evaluate their pricing. Just because you sing or play an instrument or produce or run fast doesn’t mean you’re entitled to millions, when is the last time you saw a concert cellist driving their Ferrari out of their $2.2 million driveway? I for one am sorry for the poor-rich, NOT getting any richer…uh, yeah :|

hahaha at Lichen_king trying to convince us that he is related to one of the band members.. what utter rubbish. Now correct me if I am wrong, but where are these people that are being prosecuted and heavily fined?. The MPAA in the States and the BPI in the UK would have this on every front page and in press releases if this was true, it would also be heavily pushed on Queen’s own webpage in an effort to warn us off. You Lichen_King are a liar and a fantasist of the largest order, maybe you should hook up with Heather Mills (Google her for what the judge in her divorce said).

So come on Lichen_King, provide links to back up what you say?. Oh, by the way, the Queen of Great Britain is one of my clients, I am a male escort. What, you dont believe me?, hell, it is about as credible as your story.

Now on to this, I have been a huge Queen fan since the mid 70s, bought all their albums and most of their singles. Replaced the albums with CDs during the 80s/90sand own all of their VHS and DVD releases. I think that qualifies me to make a judgement. I listened to this album and I agree with most of the comments, this is very, very poor to have the Queen name associated with it. Paul Rodgers is an OK singer, but to be honest, I have heard much, much better singers on the X Factor. Queen would have been better getting that guy that won Stars in Their Eyes in the UK years ago, he sounded so much like Freddie it was scary. Genuine Queen fans should avoid this album in my opinion.

  44. sam
    September 17th, 2008 | 15:45

Deacon has no problems with Brian & Roger using the name Queen. Freddie was a major fan of Rodgers. Queen + Paul Rodgers is not Queen and it was never meant to be. Many bands have lost their lead singer, guitarist, etc but have continued on. Freddie was not the only songwriter in the band. It could also be said that Queen would not have been Queen without Brian’s guitar.

I didn’t come here to prove to anyone he is my uncle, but I’m not sure why it’s impossible to believe, I am a heavy downloader (he doesn’t know that, he gives me all his albums and merchandise) and I told my aunt Cindy that this album has leaked, so yes he knows about it. What’s worse for you guys is Brian May now knows about it. People are getting fined, I’m just letting you people know, take what you will from it, believe it or not it has happened, I’m just letting you know, I’m not lying about this.

    September 17th, 2008 | 23:34

lol @ Lichen_King.. Quote “I didn’t come here to prove to anyone he is my uncle, but I’m not sure why it’s impossible to believe, I am a heavy downloader (he doesn’t know that, he gives me all his albums and merchandise)” Oh dear im going to tell him now. the next time he is in our resturant i will ask him if thats true.Btw Roger Taylor was in today and he says hes never heard so much crap in all his life. The pure cost of taking all the downloaders to court would be a waste of money. bands expect people to d/l their songs these days, money is made from concerts and merchandise not from record sales.why do you think a lot of bands now add their albums to usenet? coz it gives them a massive fan base.

  53. Lichen_King
    September 18th, 2008 | 00:37

. . . I don’t upload any of his or Queens work. It’s not happening to everybody obviously, but the risk is higher in this case of getting caught. I could prove he’s my uncle, because I have lots of pictures of him, and I get him to sign anything he gives me so I can display it, but nah I don’t care what you think really.

    September 18th, 2008 | 01:01

Well, at first, before listening to this album, which I will buy as soon as posible when arrive to my country, I used to agree with many of you here. I’m a huge Queen’s fan, since the 70′s. I had been to the legendary concert of them in 1981 in my country Argentina. But now, I’ve changed my mind. I thought carefully about it and after listening to the cd, many times now, I have to say that this album rocks. Now, I’m willing to leave the past where it really belongs, into the past. I won’t cry nor protest about Freddie, Queen’s name, pointless and stupid comparisons between Freddie and Paul Rodgers (Freddie was a big fan of him, please note this). And who in this world am I to not let them to do what they do best, MUSIC???????? There many good songs in this cd. And most of those songs are better that most songs that we listen on the radio today, including all that hip hop crap that has invaded the charts today, with a lot of people who CAN’T sing, singing and making millions by only rapping over music that excellent musicians actually created not copied, in the past. So, please, listen to this cd. Listen without prejudice. Listen with the heart. And let the past, be in the past. I love Freddie, and he wanted Queen to continue. Like other said above, without May, it would not have been Queen either. Sorry my poor english. I hope you can understand what I’m saying.

It’s a nice album. I’m glad it leaked onto the ‘net, otherwise I would have missed it, probably, because I didn’t actually expect this combo to release a studio album. Now that I’ve downloaded it, I’m going to buy it. That’s why this is a good thing, lichi, and you can tell your uncle that, if you like.

When I saw The Brian May Band live in my home town many years ago, it was a celebration of what Queen was (among other things), and Queen + Paul Rodgers is the same thing. I take this album as an added bonus. Roger Taylor and Brian May have written many a good song up until now, and even though I don’t particularly like Paul Rodgers’ voice, I still appreciate that new stuff is coming out.

Bad Company and Queen were two of my favorite bands when I was in high school in 1978. They both have powerful lead singers with different styles and when I heard Paul was going to sing with the remaining members of Queen I was waiting for a listen which is why I am here now. But checking out these comments cracks me up. What’s so hard to believe that a relative is commenting? I have a relative who played guitar in a pretty famous band. Also, what’s wrong with Brian May doing what he love’s?

Brain May and Roger Taylor are musicians, that is what they do.
I hope they are happy with what they are doing.

No question that Freddie Mercury was a one of a kind vocal talent. With that said I have to follow that comment by saying that Paul Rodgers deserves to be mentioned in the same breath. While they are completely different in terms of image and style they do have one trait very much in common… that they are two of only a handful of singers that operate on a different (ie: higher) level than 99% of both young and old rock vocalists. To say Rodgers is “dreadful” or “ok” as a singer is absolutely absurd. If he was truly that average why in the world would Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Buddy Guy, The Four Tops, Rod Stewart, Slash, Sam Moore and countless other world class musicians either have played with him and/or sung his praises and influence as a rock vocalist? The guy has an amazing voice that is unique, powerful and technically capable of adapting to any number of styles. Freddie Mercury himself loved Paul Rodgers voice and this is coming from a guy who many consider to be the best that ever lived. No offense to those who feel that way about Rodgers but I wouldn’t want to share a foxhole with you.

Brian May and Roger Taylor have a right to continue to write and perform music with whoever they wish. This is what they do and I wish them the best in their future endeavors. Paul Rodgers deserves credit for walking into this bonfire by virtue of just being Paul Rodgers.

Thanks for all the charity work that you three are involved in. I seldom see that mentioned among all the carping about this merger not really being Queen.
