Quarantine DVDRip XViD-PUKKA

Here we have a major movie release from PUKKA, “Quarantine”, which is a 2008 American horror film directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Jennifer Carpenter. The film is a remake of the Spanish horror film “REC”. The film contains shaky camerawork, and features no incidental music, being “scored” with sound effects. I will definitely grab a 720p Rip of this movie. So for now, I would just skip this one.

PLOT: Television reporter Angela Vidal and her cameraman are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew’s videotape.

    The Spanish writer-directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, of the recent Spanish horror hit '[REC]', have been chatting with Fangoria about the upcoming Screen Gem US remake 'Quarantine'.

    It is a horror film," Balagueró tells the site. "What they're trying to do is turn a film that could very well be successful on the art-house circuit, even if subtitled, into one that could potentially be successful as a mainstream, teen-oriented movie. Which is, by the way, the same market that doesn't like reading at the movies in Spain."

    They also mention 'Cloverfield' comparisons and (ahem) Hollywood's lack of originality.

    The due themselves are currently prepping their sequel to the original '[REC]'. The shoot will apparently begin long after 'Quarantine's release.

    The US remake of '[REC]' entitled 'Quarantine' will be released this October in US and UK theatres.

    cannot wait for rec 2 i hope they make it

  49. Mark
    January 25th, 2009 | 23:58

    @elSuho :

    It's obviously isn't it? This made a lot of money relative to its budget (3x) and will make even more money on video. American audiences only rarely take to foreign films and hardly ever to genre films like this.

    Hollywood studios make easy profits remaking films like Rec for American audiences who would never go and see the original.

    As I mentioned elsewhere, look at "Let the Right One In" as an example. It got about as much publicity and critical acclaim as a foreign film could in America, yet has still made less than $2m. The Hollywood remake is in production and will undoubtedly make many times that in profit.

    Don't ask why studios remake these films, they're there to make money, ask why audiences would rather see an inferior knock-off than the original. Again, the answer is pretty obvious.

    so i think u can say its a remake – but not 100% – the trailer was a totaly remake! ;)

    Of course it's a remake 2Fast4Pre. Use your bloody brain. 90% of the scenes aren't just similar, they're nigh on identical. The screenplay is an adaption, or would-you-believe-it a REMAKE of the [Rec] screenplay. It is filmed in the same style, with the same story and the same lead character with the same name (Angela Vidal). It is as close as two films can possibly be. There are two options here — either it is a remake, or it is just a 'similar type of movie'. This is NOT a similar movie, it is the SAME movie aside from slight few differences. Please, define a remake and tell me how this isn't one because virtually every site, and everybody involved with the film during press interviews disagrees with you entirely.

    What's the different between a remake and a "based-on" film? They're purely coincidental. Quarantine isn't a remake of [REC], period.

    Unless you have both the dvd's in front of you, your opinion is completely invalid.

    But Still. I love Jennifer Carpenter, so this is like eye candy i guess.

    Maybe one day american producers will heavyly distribute those foreign titles and will stop to do "profitable" remakes. Not. -___-

    It's a remake from start to finish. Despite earlier posts, Quarantine was not in production until several months after Rec had finished being shown in Spainish cinemas.
    It starts the same, has the same main character name, events unfold the same and it ends exactly the same way. Characters in it do exactly the same thing they did in the original. The transmission of the virus is the same, the old woman in apartment, the mother gets handcuffed to bannisters and hell even some of the shots are identical. The creature at the end is even the same actor from Rec in the same make-up effects. It's a remake.

    @M

    There is a difference between being "based on" and a "remake." I'll take the "director's word" over any google-searching nub any day!

    If you think [REC] is the original of Quarantine than there are plenty more movies that [REC] IS A REMAKE OF, lol.

    Do some actual research instead of googling your info.

    I could only bear to watch about half of this movie. Its some kind of shakycam zombie flick from what i could tell.

    The characters are unlikable, the dialogue is poorly written, the acting is horrible, and the overall premise of the movie is unbelievable to the point of being completely ridiculous. Was kindof intrigued by the trailers last year, but this movie turned out to be absolutely terrible. The special effects are decent, but it doesnt save this movie from being just painful to watch. If you decide to see it anyways, feel free… but you've been warned…

    yeh, not only a remake, a really lame one, wouldn't it had been cheaper for the producers to just use the original REC and add english language over it ? they are almost identical (very very few differences) but something is missing from this one, dunno, maybe because i saw the original a few months back, but in any case this movie shouldn't have been made like this, it would have been much better if they just took the main idea of Rec, and came up with an original plot. (new characters, different location, different storyline) But i guess that's just too much to ask of Hollywood.

    My 2 cents : If you've seen Rec, there's absolutely no point whatsoever in downloading this one (except maybe to see Jennifer Carpenter, Dexter's sister in the tv show with the same name) and if you haven't seen Rec, there's still no point in seeing this one, just download the original, it's much better :-)
