Punic Wars-HATRED

Another evening, another two new games by HATRED. The first of them is again, little low-budget title Celtic Kings II – The Punic Wars coming from Bulgarian studio Haemimont Games. It would be probably a good game in case we’ve just celebrated year 2000 – but it certainly isn’t that good in 2007. It is a real-time strategy focusing mainly on tactic part. Small enough to download (and delete) in few minutes on a decent connection…

Set in the third century BC, the rivalry between the two great empires of the world-Rome and Carthage has reached its peak. Both powers wish to claim all for themselves. The scene is set for The Punic Wars-A Clash of Two Empires. Seamlessly mixing both RTS and RPG genres, The Punic Wars, gives the strategy player hours and hours of challenging gameplay.

Continuing on the traditions of the original, award-winning Celtic Kings: Rage of War title, The Punic Wars (aka Nemesis of the Roman Empire) explores the three Punic wars fought by Rome and Carthage between 264 BC and 146 BC and includes the famous campaigns of Hannibal and Scipio Africanus. This game introduces new nations, units, upgrades, and strategies while preserving the fresh and unique gameplay of its highly acclaimed predecessor.

Game features:

  • Two new nations: the Carthaginians and the Iberians, complete with their own historical buildings and units (War Elephants, Libyan Infantry, Numidian riders, Slingers, Mountaineers, three new catapult models). The handling of every nation is completely different.
  • A single-player campaign featuring the campaign of Hannibal Barca (Sagunto battle, the crossing of the Alps, Cannas battle)
  • A single-player campaign featuring the development of the Roman Republic during the Punic wars (the invasion of Sicily, the conquest of Hispania, the destruction of Carthage)
  • Completely new terrains, now including desert
  • New custom maps
  • New music and more than 100 new sound effects
  • Players can choose their race while playing on custom maps and the game modifies the map to fit the stronghold they’ve chosen

Minimum system requirements:

  • MS Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
  • A 400 MHz Pentium II processor
  • 128MB of system memory
  • Video board capable of displaying 1024×768 with thousands of colors
  • 4x or faster CD-ROM
  • DirectX 8.1 or newer

WTF happen to the graphic? It doesn’t look anything like in the screen shots on this page. It looks like 1990 graphics nearing borderline stickfigure graphics. Also, what’s with the windows 3.1 look and feel? Popup c r a p window all over the place.

FYI This Punic Wars is not Celtic Kings II – The Punic Wars coming from Bulgarian studio Haemimont Games. It’s Punic Wars from HPS Simulation and it’s even more crappy game!

    Hey guys,

The Punic Wars shown on the screenshots here is Celtic Kings II – The Punic Wars, and the same as Nemesis of the Roman Empire. It was released in 2003, when the graphics looked slightly less ridiculous than they look today :-)
