Promote Releaselog: how?
I have serious problems with promoting this site, Releaselog. Although there is already about 2 or 3 thousands of daily readers, I’d like to increase this number a bit, as every other webmaster. The “problem” (actually it’s not a problem in common meaning of this word) is the origin of the traffic: the visitors get to this site basically in three streams:
- NewTorrents.info – there’s last 10 posts block at the site which ensure some visitors getting here
- Mininova, Pirate Bay – sometimes someone links to this site, but it’s very small number of visitors
- Google – people search for some term and Google sends them very often to this place
On the one side, I should be very happy that I got so many traffic from Google, which points on good website in the eyes of this search engine. With PageRank 5 and fresh news, I usually get on top places for queries about new releases or tech news, so many people click on the link and visit Releaselog. Many owners of blogs would be very happy for 3000 visitors almost every day, but I know there’s a bigger potential and I can really get more. It’s only about finding some promoting opportunity or may be, giving it some time meanwhile I keep posting on daily basis to satisfy your needs. And I’m asking you, my visitors to give me some good advice, some way of promotion which would result into getting more traffic. I was thinking about link exchanging, which is common way of getting new visitors, but I found my weblog so specific, there’s almost no website to exchange link with. Firs I’d just like to say that I love this site, I found it just a few days ago, I think I came from torrentspy.com.
It’s good to be up to date of new movie releases and not just check many different torrent sites every day for new movies.
Maybe you could promote this site on ed2k donkey/mule like sites to ?

Yeah, trading links always works well.. You may want to make a page with links to (torrent)sites and have a banner there from rlslog if you get many or just link to them now and then if there’s a torrent to go with one of the new releases on them (if it’s a ‘free’ site offcourse).

In my eyes, the following is still a bit annoying:
- Entire posts dedicated to movies no-one knows
Maybe combine a couple of unknown releases into a single post..
- Few and large posts on the main page
More posts only displaying the first one or two paragraphs should
give new visitors a better idea of what’s been posted before..
- Clean up the English
Occasionally a post will occur with clear typos, which really
distract readers from the message you’re trying to bring across..
With these rather small issues fixed you might be able have a larger
percentage of your visitors to return..
thanks for good comment Tim, you got some point. I’m still fighting with English as it’s not much easy for me to type everything in English (it’s my 3rd language!), so there may be some issues about correct spelling or using appropriate words.
the idea about combining more movies into one post is what I’ve practised for some time, and I’ll continue in the future too, but when there’s no new release in whole day, I usually post “normal” spot even about some less known movie. great example was “Hobboken Hollow” – google had put my link at the first place for more than week, before all official websites and other well known webs…
finally, this “read more” style is something what I don’t like, especially when posts here are usually quite short, consisting of only few paragraphs at all. anyway, I’ll consider it as an option too.
JohnD’s idea is also nice, I think it could bring some new people, although there’s already lot of these lists of torrents sites…
If someone didnt come back to this site because they had a problem understanding how you type english then they are going to lose out and also being way too critical. Sure ocasionally there are a few words that read a bit unusal to me as english is my first language but if anything it adds character to the site and i dont think ive ever had trouble understanding the posts. Also it is nice to sometimes see decent information about a lesser known film even if its not good to watch its still nice to be informed and get more of an idea than if it was a single quick summary. The banner idea sounds worth a try and keep up the good work.

I’m visiting this site at least 4 times in a week [since the first days], you are supplying up to date information and i love the extra information [beside the new movies and games such as the new 750GB HD].
I think the link exchange is a very good idea. There are also a lot of sites that supply Subtitles which you can contact their webmasters and consider co-operation either exchanging links or banners [or both].
Anyway, keep up the good work
your english is fine!! you dont have to write in english so we shoudl have tom put up with it to read your great news. i forget where i found your site but now it is bookedmarked and i visit everyday to see the new releases and see what you think of the quality.

all i want to to say.. ur reviews have helped me alot in deciding wheather to download a movie or not.plus they are up to date.

Hmm, this site is so well-put together I thought it was much bigger. (As far as people running it) I just found this site linked to the above sites and now come here everyday. The clean layout and up-to-date information is great. This site will be extremely popular soon enough as it’s the only one of it’s type, if you get linked with the popular Torrent sites this place will blast off!
I really like the fresh and clean look of both RLSLOG and Newtorrents, that’s what keeps me coming back and differentiates this site from the others. So you could try the trading banner thing, but please try to keep the clean and simple lay-out.
On a side note, i really appreciate the imdb linking with moviereleases:)
The problem here is that there are no similar blogs to this. Usually in the blogging community people with similar interests will find and link to each other. However what I think could help is that some people put a small link in their signature (not a banner!) linking to RLSLOG. I think that’s somehow I found my way here.
yeah that’s good idea with this signature… you are completely right about these no similar blogs, i wrote it in the article. usually, i would exchange links with similar sites, but it’s hard to find something like this. torrent or emule sites are usually too big and don’t want to swap links and all weblogs are oriented in slightly different way…
