Prison Break ending series after season

Yeah, tv shows start and end here and there, but this really came to my attention. I really like the show. But i found out they were ending it, i knew they were and also it did need to someday.

Prison Break fans, there’s really no easy way to say this so we’ll just take a very direct approach: Prison Break is coming to an end…soon; Fox today announced the series will be ending at the conclusion of this season.

The news probably isn’t a huge shock to anyone who has been following the series recently. Late last year, speculators thought the show would be coming to an end when Fox tacked on a few extra hours to this year’s production schedule. And with heavy promotion for Fringe, 24, and Lie to Me in full swing, it isn’t hard to see who the odd man out is.

Prison Break is currently on a little vacation, as Fox beefs up its midseason schedule with the aforementioned trio and a little program called American Idol. However, Fox did schedule a return for the final episodes of Prison Break–they begin their run April 17.

According to TVGuide.com, Fox president Kevin Reilly explained, “[Prison Break] got to a point where a lot of the stories had been told,” which is a kind way to say the show was running on fumes creatively. At least six hours of the drama are left to go, with the possibility of a few more hours added as Reilly said he wants the program to “finish strong.”

Before fans organize a save-the-show campaign complete with an assault of freshly shaven hair and teabags, consider this: Prison Break was originally conceived as a one-season show or mini-series, but instead was stretched out to four full seasons. That’s some glass-is-half-full thinking right there.
Well Prison Breakers, do you agree with Fox’s Reilly? Did the show run out of gas? Who will you miss most when the screen goes dark?

well.. it was supposed to be a mini series that would end after 1st season. So season after season I was expecting it to end. I guess this was the season.

Prison Break has been horrible after the second season.

This whole thing with Scylla has been ridiculous. The company needs weeks to transfer Scylla and yet Scofield can just toss it in his backpack and run around with it? So much for "sensitive" data.

I'm a huge fan of the series, but ending the series now, after the current season, is definitely the right thing to do. In fact, I think it would have been even better if they had cancelled the series after season 2.
This way, Prison Break will be remembered as a good series, which is way better than stretching it out eternally over 8 or 9 seasons and becoming totally annoying at some point.

PB ran out of gas at the first EP of season 2.
Seasons 2, 3 and 4 are just pointless, waste of time.
The last one is really competing to be the worst of all.

Still pretty nice show on S1 for those you didnt see it.

    January 14th, 2009 | 08:56

I will cry my eyes out when PB ends. The series had it's weak parts (Season 2 imho) but it's very dynamic and packed-with-action series with no blank spots (or if there are any, you won't notice).

I will have to start looking for another series, maybe Dexter?

  18. January 14th, 2009 | 08:58

    indeed, die already

this show should have stopped after the first season.
    4 full fuc##ng seasons… and about what????

about 1 bald dude sacreficing many to save 1 ape-man (his out-of-control-brother-ape)

to end in a possitive way: the first season was so good (sad about the 3 full seasons of crap afterwards)

    January 14th, 2009 | 09:36

Too sad to hear this. I love to watch Prison Break episodes. I'm a big fan of this serie. But, seeing by another side, it's history is already much far and it should has a "strong end", as said the fox director. Would be nice to see one of the best finnals of all series.

  36. Me and You, You and I
    January 14th, 2009 | 10:43

Yes, Prison Break was intended as a one season show, but it's base grew into a phenomenon. Granted some parts of all the seasons dragged horribly, and were stretched thin. But this happens in all series. Tell me that every episode of M*A*S*H, or The Simpsons is great entertainment. 24, has always sucked, fringe had us in the beginning but not anymore, and lie to me.? half a season and it will be canned like New Amsterdam. They have a guaranteed source of viewers with prison break and Like always the Network Know all's are pulling the plug. Now a show that should be canned is American Idol, I have never been that bored in my life until last nights season 8 premier. Watching paint dry was more fun, the only highlight was the hot chick in the bikini, and she can't sing but has one hell of a body so she will more than likely win

    January 14th, 2009 | 10:44

Are you guys all high or something?

This show is brilliant all of the seasons were fantastic (except season 3 of course) and whats with all the hating on Season 4?

Imo its the best season out of them all.

  38. Donnie Darko
    January 14th, 2009 | 11:03

Though the mere idea of ending Prison Break breaks my TV heart, in reality it's probably the best thing to do right now.
I mean there's only so much decent plotline to forward and ending it now it's the right thing to do. Both for the actor's, the show's Legacy and for us fans too. I'm pretty sure nobody would like a 10 season rambling on about nothing Prison Break. People will remember it as an amazing show who also had the privilege to finish at the right time.
I won't even bother talking about all those haters here…
    As for the new/resuming shows:
24: Never liked it, never will
Fringe: Ain't so bad, enjoyable so far, room for improvement
Lie To Me: Sounds/looks promising, time will tell

    January 14th, 2009 | 11:17

I'll miss all of the cast although its better to bring the series to an end. After season 2 it became a little bit cheesy.
Finally Michael and the guys will stop running…

    #37:

"This show is brilliant all of the seasons were fantastic (except season 3 of course) and whats with all the hating on Season 4?"

I couldn't agree more. The only bad season was number 3. Still, PB's worst moments are far better than the best moments of other so-called "popular" shows. I understand why they end it but they could have used the new data given at the end of the last episode ired to produce another whole season, there was potential.

    January 14th, 2009 | 14:06

OK, i don't know if most of you guys get this, but the show is entitled "Prison Break", not Prison Breaks, not Escapee's Save The World (I'm of course talking about Scylla (like getting 100% efficiency from solar cells is even physicly possible)), not Escapee's Help The Government Fight The Bad Guys And Then Switch Sides And Then Switch Them Again or any other c**p like that.
It should've been a 1 season show AT MOST (I think a mini-series would've been perfect). I watched the first couple of episodes of season 1 and then stopped because everything was being stretched from the get-go (I glimpsed all the episodes of every season because my brother is a PB freak, and I think i enjoyed that better than I would had I watched the whole ehow).
the only good thing I have to say about PB, is that it had almost no fillers, but that's sadly only because they stretched everything out for so long, that you never got anything from just one episode (kinda like those f*****g Spanish soaps).

    P.S.
This is my opinion as a person who you could almost say hated PB, so don't take it too personally. It is just how I see the show, which might I add, seems very similar to Lost (not the story, but the endless stretching), and for some unexplicable reason, both of these shows have a huge fanbase.
I personally am glad to see this show ending, and hopefully, some better shows will be brought on (still holding a torch for Firefly ;) )
And on that note, approx. 2 more days 'till Supernatural starts again, can't wait too see it ;)

    January 14th, 2009 | 14:07

Prison Break is one of the best shows on tv. Even if some of the storylines aren't exactly up-to-par with their previous seasons, it's still better than 95% of all the crap on TV. I like The Mentalist and Fringe and I watch them religiously, but Prison Break on an off week is still better.
Just look at the torrent download numbers, this seasons torrents were the first I'd ever seen go over 50,000 downloaders at one time. Usually, 4000-6000 is pretty high for any torrent. The stupid company has creative people working for them, fix it if it's broken.

    January 14th, 2009 | 15:12

Thank you Fox for finally ending this great show!; now let me explain:

The first season of Prison Break was great, and definitely had a cult following. It hat a unique and fresh plot…the trouble came when they got out of prison. And one more, the show was very clever. How Michael Scofield solved each and every problem that presented itself to him was intelligent, clever, and relatively unpredictable. Unfortunately, as the show progressed, everything from corny plot to corny dialogue was predictable.

The second season was damn near great, as it is true that "breaking out of Fox River is only the beginning." But honestly, that's where the show should have ended.

Getting thrown into "Sona" in the third season was absolutely ridiculous! As a loyal fan every week, I was thinking, "what are they running out of ideas?!?!" I'm guessing that the creators threw them back into prison because it's their bread-and-butter and needed to create some new excitement. The only good part about Sona was the season 2 finale when they show Michael Scofield walking in slow motion through its' corridors and through to the yard.

The problem with American (I'm American for the record) is that they'll drag a series a long, far beyond it's potential, just to win the ratings war and pile up some capitol. Shows like the UK version of The Office are well done and complete because they end when the show should end, and not drag it on endless for season upon season.

Granted, I'm going to miss Prison Break, even though the last season was horrendous, and I believe that "Gretchen" to be one of the top 10 worst characters in television. So R.I.P. and Salude Prison Break, I'll miss ya!

(And even thought he was just the money man, I also blame Brett Ratner to driving this great series down a cliff of cliche….just like how he destroyed the Rush Hour series…because if you never wrote anything, all you know how to do is throw money and SFX at plot and character problems; this is Ratner's M.O.)

This really comes down to me as no surprise.

There is only so many times where Scofield and every one can be thrown back in prison again only to escape and then be on the run again.

I am rather surprised that on how long this show did last. However like all good things, PB does need to come to some form of closure.

Thank god! I watched this show all through season one. I loved it! Then I heard it was coming back for a second season. Alright… it should have just stayed at one season, but I tried watching the second season. Three to four episodes in I realized I hated it and stopped watching for good. Four seasons was WAY overboard. Good riddance!

They streched the show from sesaon 1 because it had 10 million viewers – it's all about making money. Season 1 was by far the best together with 2. Season 3 could've been better, i like the prison enviorment in series, but sonar was a litlle to much. Season 4 was great too tho the name of the show is prison break.
I'm glad it ended here not like lost with a story running way out of line :D

Prison break was fantastic from day one, I did not expect the final break, which put the cream on the cake. The series was as true to show what street, jail, and friendship is in real life, only a
wise guy or street hustlers could appreciate could a master of what was the truth in Prison break. That’s how life is all about”dog eat dog”…..There is not much more I can say, only no other series will compare to it!
