Prince - Planet Earth (2007)

The well known musician Prince has come back with his 24th studio album “Planet Earth” which is to be released on the 24th of July in the USA and the 15th in the UK. If you’re in the UK you can get the album for free from the The Mail on Sunday newspaper. I’m not going say anything about this artist as almost everybody knows him so enjoy the album!

Prince Rogers Nelson (born June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an iconic Americanmusician. He is best known for performing under the name Prince, though his name and identity have varied over the years.

His music has spanned myriad styles; from his early material, rooted in R&B, funk, and soul, he has constantly expanded his musical palette throughout his career, absorbing many other genres including New Wave, pop, rock, blues, jazz, and hip hop. The distinctive characteristics of the early-to-mid 1980s work which brought him to super-stardom (including sparse and industrial-sounding drum machine arrangements, and the use of synthesizer riffs to serve the role traditionally occupied by horn riffs in earlier R&B, funk and soul music) became known as the “Minneapolis sound,” which proved heavily influential.

Prince has been a remarkably prolific artist, having released several hundred songs, both under his own name and through other artists. Regarded as a perfectionist, Prince is known for being highly protective of his music. He produces, composes, arranges and performs nearly all of the songs on his albums. Many critics have dubbed him a musical genius due to the quality of his compositions and proficiency at various instruments.

Planet Earth is the title of the upcoming studio album by Prince to be released on July 24, 2007 in the U.S. via Columbia Records. Prince and Columbia previously teamed up for the release of his Musicology album in 2004.[1] The first single is “Guitar”, to be distributed in partnership with Verizon Wireless. Planet Earth will feature contributions from former Revolution members Wendy and Lisa. On 27 June, “Future Baby Mama” leaked to the internet via an American online radio station.

Pre-release tracks such as the single “Guitar” and “The One U Wanna C”–with its full-band arrangement and late-period Revolution sound–suggest that the album may be more of a straightforward pop/rock record than Prince’s recent R&B-leaning releases, although the R&B slow jam “Future Baby Mama” suggests the album’s composition may be more eclectic.

This is one his finest releases for a long time. Those who don’t appreciate his artistic flair and brilliant songwriting need to remove their heads from their backsides and take a listen to this release. As innovative as ever, and an ingenius marketing plan.

Admittedly Prince (whatever happened to Symbol/TAFKAP?) is a bit of a flake musically - he can produce a lot of self-indulgent, rambling guff at times. But he can also produce stunningly original tracks, both musically and lyrically, so if even one of his new songs are of the latter type, then I’ll be a happy bunny.

    @ sumeet,
Away and sook on your mammy’s tit wee boy - Prince has bedded a hell of a lot of the world’s most beautiful and famous women while never getting a bad ‘report card’. Apparently he’s also shit-hot at basketball - just ask Charlie Murphy! :)

I laugh at these immature and petulant comments about prince. As a fan, the most prolific artist of our time always delivers. Isn’t that all we want?
Faggot …haha wish i had the babes this musical genius has had.
There’s a lot of artists (if you can call them that) who give the music world a hell of a lot less and they certainly don’t “hit the mark” or get close to the variety of this man’s music.
I have been a fan since I was 17 I am now 43…. I eagerly await any release this man comes up with. My prince library (downloaded to my Mac) played end to end, song to song goes continuously for 2.3 day. So laugh if you want….I’m one very happy Prince fan.
A note for other fans….don’t try to explain prince’s actions over the warner bros regime, because it’s too far above the intellect of those whose stupid comments are based on media crap and made up bullshit.
Prince just do what you do best!
