Poll results: your favourite category
I’m happy to announce the results of our historically first poll. We added this little script to improve the feedback we get from you and I guess that you liked it – we collected almost 5 thousand votes in 7 days. The question was quite simple and not too original. I think that the results are what I expected at the beginning.
Movies ranked first with almost 50% of all votes. This is something I hoped for, because it’s basically our main category with most posts. The second place is little surprising, I haven’t thought Games will get so many votes, but it looks it’s a popular category as well. We could probably consider opening a console section, as many games don’t even appear on PC. Third place is secured by TV Shows with 13%. This is also a nice number. The last categories are Applications, Music and Tech news, which usually don’t have more than 1 or 2 posts a day, but considering the amount of comments they get, it’s still good to have them.
I would like to ask you for possible questions for another polls – we obviously have some ideas, but may be there’s something you would like to know and we can easily ask this now. The another poll will start from midnight and will run 7 or 14 days, depending on the popularity. Thanks everyone for voting!

It would of been nicer to have a more advanced pole, as I voted Movies.. but i also use Games alot too, and really enjoy the Tech News
Yea me 2 I vote movies but I love so much Tech News for real.
Tech news are great , keep it like that even if there are so many site like Slashdot , i don’t have the time to check all of them.
oh yeah if you open a new game section for console …. don’t forget that games need to be classified as PAL and NTSC !!

I think you should make a daily post of shows in one post. Make a post called Today Shows (date) and in there if user choose read more place all daily shows. It’s really stupid to scroll down 5minutes just to pass shows. It’s just a sugestion so your site looks better.

you should definatley do console information. I always use abgx.net but would be nice to have detailed information.
@7: what’s the different between scrolling 5 minutes over tv shows or movies? anyway, we considered this already and made few posts like that already, but it didn’t work too well – can you imagine this garbage in comments with e.g. 7 tv shows and everyone commenting, posting links and bitching about something different?

As previously said, people like more than one category and for me it is Games then Movies. A survey where you order them in preference, 1-6 or whatever, would be more representative.

In an earlier comment I pointed out in nice clean language that I thought there were too many posts on TV shows (compared to some 3 months ago) -IN MY OPINION- they took/take a percentage too high compared to other categories. I got a lot of flaming thrown at me including dirty language from Mr X (btw did he read the comment rules himself?). I’m glad this poll kinda supports my point.
I even suggested a way to get rid of this ‘problem’ and still be able to report on all series: one post a day containing all episodes aired that day with a few of them highlighted.
I don’t mean to be rude, I just wanted to point something out, its just critisism and I like to hear serious reactions but I laugh at calling me names and flaming…

This is slightly off-topic:
When downloading games I usually download the full game, ISO or whatever but sometimes I just want to get the full game but without all the moves/music/etc i.e. a Game RIP.
These are often useful because I don’t want to be wasting bandwidth on downloading sub-par games.
Anyway I am curious to know who else does this and what about putting up a category for these Rips?

I must admit, the music posts have been quite disappointing in comparison to all other categories. but other than that, keep up the good work.
@10 Tvshows are easy to find and eztv is far the best site for it. If you need to have this category why not put all shows in one post like i said before, i think nobody reads descriptions of them just click on torrent and dl. With movies this is different,you read a description go on imdb check what critics think and then you dl it. Basicly what i’m saying is that who watches prison break or heroes knows when it will be online for dl and he/she will just dl the torrent. Why read a description that will tell you almost everything in show. I like your site and i visit every hour or less because i like to read opinions of movies or games not for dl. i dl from private sites. when you started posting tvshows i lost my interest of visiting your page hourly. so many tvshows so many pictures od michel scofield and heroes:) it’s just isn’t like it was before. Clean and with purpose.
for tv shows, rss on eztv is the best. once you have watched/know a tv show, the titles are enough.
i think rlslog should not do individual post for tv show (might screw up comments tho) since it not necesssary to explain them (might spoil it too). only NEW shows should have a a post.
i come here most days yet somehow never see the poll either ..
Or we could make a poll to see average connection speed on rlslog… (maybe do double poll with both up and downspeed)

I gotta say that the movies, games, and tech news are my favorite categories. But could you guys put up a section with DVD5 and DVD9 releases of movies so we dont have to be stuck with DVDRips of lower resolution, less or no subtitles, and only one audio track. the only movies that I
watch on my pc are in HD and the rest I wait for them to be posted as a full DVD so I can easily burn them and watch on my TV.
since movies won, i suggest you ask people whats their favourite movie genre is
I must agree with a few people here bout the tv shows. There is already too much info available elsewhere about them and it’s pretty much the only thing covered here that you know exactly what day it comes out so very easy to find and most importantly it takes way to much overall space on the page to cover them. The comments are a good thing so it’s hard to find a good alternative to this problem.
If you dont want tv shows and are looking for just movies or games, why dont you simply click the category to the right? then you would not have to worry about it. I could careless about games or applications, but i dont complain. I just click tv shows or the movie category and thats all I see here. Simple click.
#29- Also why would staff want to eliminate or shorten tv shows entries, when there is such a consistent flow nearly every night, which equals more entries and probably visitors. Where as major movies are few and far between. Most tv show entries get a minimum of 25 comments. It’s better for the rlslog’s traffic, even if it maybe a inconvience for some here. Like he said just click the category in the upper right.
Please find a way to toggle news sections, and store that in a cookie.
I’d love to switch off the offtopic/tech/tv sections and just get Games, Movies and Apps

This poll gives a clear message: concentrate on torrents, and get rid of the inane logs like the tech news and the stupid weekly videos. People come here for releases, if they want anything else they will visit other sites where professionals write solid articles instead of the amateuristic drivel I sometimes see here.
Stick to your niche rlslog, that’s where you’re great at!
Oh, and get rid of the enormous amount of TV-shows with the ‘great’ Mr. X. I hate to scroll those long lists every day just to find one game or movie that I like. If I want TV-shows I go to EZTV, as other people mentioned THE BEST for television related releases. And EZTV covers all TV-releases, instead of the staff members choice. Not THAT many people like Kitchen Nightmares you know!

the tv shows don’t bother me much, but it’s true i ignore them completely (with the exception of heroes) putting all in one post by day (and bringing back to the top as it is updated) doesn’t seem a bad idea
console games would be awesome but try not to overdo it, just the main consoles, or rlslog is gonna be crowded of console games posts
We should ban mouse scrollers because some people are actually physically handicapped. We need to make rlslog more handi-accessible that have difficulties eating their dinner without making a mess and also using their mouse scroller. Their index or middle finger suffers from severe muscle aches, and therefore they cannot scroll down. We should vote for that.

please dont add console games. what i love so much about rlslog is, that everything you guys offer works on a PC and there are no categories i have to skip. furthermore there are increasingly more games for xbox and ps3 that also appear on PC and it gets harder and harder to find the right version.
At the moment every single category is interessting and if you add ps3 and co the page content will explode and get harder to go trough.
so consider this please. if you really want to make a console category you should maybe add a feature, that makes it possible to chose the categories users want to see…

Rlslog was a beautiful orginized site without tvshows and now it is just like release.info and such. Just posting everything that is released. Before when movies,games was priority people read what you have written and respected your opinion(it includes me). Now you just copy paste text from tv.com or some similar site add a picture and here is a new post of Prison Break… It’s just not the same,it’s worst.I just suggested a change,i’m member of many sites and the look of rlslog is unique but as time goes it is losing it’s touch. Ban me or not i don’t care but don’t act like a baby.
Much like a welfare recipient in New Orleans, I voted more than once in the poll. My desire was to skew the votes towards Games, which I much prefer over TV Shows, Music and Applications.

I dont think subdivisions of the main categories is the way to go. A main category of Music is fine, and then if you find a Flac or MP3 or AAC version, or whatever type, thats great.
Otherwise, every category would need subcategories, like Movies would have to add High Def Movies, Standard Def Movies, Lousy Def Movies etc…
The categories would be too cluttered. Unfortuntately, those that want top quality might have to search a little harder than just on Rlslog

Yes I’ve often wondered that, people asking on here for rapidshare links. Not necessarily that they should be banned, but they don’t really give anything back to the scene if they just download from RS rather than uploading the file through Bittorrent.

I wonder why people are against RS links, and also not sure exactly what you mean when you say that they dont give back to the scene.
Arent they safer for people to download from since the only one with any risk is the original uploader?
Using RS links is also much quicker than waiting for a torrent to download, as you are limited only by your own download speed and not by the upload speed of other users.
Not sure why people would be against having them in addition to torrents.
I think you should make a whole separate page or site for games releases…
