PlayStation 3 in Europe: 23 March 2007

Sony finally announced the release date for PlayStation 3 in Europe: it has been scheduled to March 23, which means something like 2 more months of waiting. A million units are being forecast for all of Europe to cover what’s sure to be a hectic launch period. For everyone who manages to secure one of these first machines, there will be 30 software titles to choose from within the “launch period” (this can mean several months). There will be two models of PS3 available: the one with 60 GB drive for £425 and then also cheaper one with 20 GB storage. Prices for the rest of Europe will be similar, at €599 for 60 GB model. If you convert this to US dollars, you get to the sum of something like $800, which is still VERY overpriced against common US retail price of $600.

No false starts for the PlayStation Network; this will be up and running from day one with the much vaunted demo of “Gran Turismo HD Concept” to download alongside a demo of Tekken: Dark Resurrection. PlayStation Network will also be geared up to cater for more casual players with a ‘coffee-break’ roster that includes Go! Sudoku, Go! Puzzle, and arcade style action in the form of Blast Factor and flow. An extra treat, if you can call it that, will be a new System Update as soon as you join PlayStation Network for the first time.

somehow, i just don’t think any one will even care about the PS3’s launch in Europe. the system is pretty much DOA. between Sony’s misbehavior with their music and movie labels, their rootkit attack, their exploding batteries, and over-priced, over-hyped, over-costly PS3, they should hopefully keep losing money and eventually just die off. Blu-Ray should also end up failing, because if HD-DVD doesn’t beat it, i’m suspecting another form of media storage will.

Funny how the nintendo wii is the most innovative console released this generation and yet it’s the cheapest…

Funny – sony advertises the Gran Turismo demo here: http://psp.connect.com/

But stole a screenshot from Project Gotham Racing on XBox 360 here: http://www.bizarrecreations.com/games_img/pgr3/pgr313_full.jpg

Did the screenshots from Gran Turismo look so bad that they had to steal from XBox?

Finally! I’m gonna go for PS3 in this console war. Much better games for ME. Price is a lot but you get blu-ray also so it’s priced same as x360 if you take blu-ray off. Because blu-ray players cost alot, not that cheap. and btw x360 isn’t HD-DVD capable yet.

First of all , the PS3 isnt HD – DVD capable too at this point (as it isn’t even out)

Second of all , the 360 is HD-DVD capable :

given the massive price hike for the UK and EU release, will the PAL versions of PS3 be getting more usable ram as standard for the likes of linux installs ?, and therefore be able to accomadate better gaming gfx over and above the current US versions?….

will the internal wireless chip also be made available to these 3rd party OS with a hypervisor extension upon UK/EU release.

    Bram,

I thought you had to buy a seperate add on HD-DVD Drive for the xbox 360, as standard it only comes with a DVD Drive. It and the Ps3 Both have HD TV compatibility as standard. The PS3 uses Blu ray also so I doubt it will be handling HD-DVD full stop.

Brampower, YOU do some research before you comment. ^^ lol
And that site you gave shows how to get that drive to work at PC!!! So you can’t count it as part of x360 after that.

And btw as Lee said PS3 uses Blu-Ray, everyone knows that. I have done more research than you think. ( ofc if I’m gonna use lot of money to buy one )

You’re typical x360 fanboy. I don’t hate x360 it’s just that PS3 offers better games for me (as I said). Both are awesome machines in their own way.

    Peace man!
