Well, the flick is fine. But I can’t dedicate, nor justify, the time to download such a huge file to replace a rip that is VERY good.

hhhmmm.. Seems like a genius minded one would create a compression to beat these down to real world size.

I can’t remember the name of it, my age is showing I know, but there was one compression of old that would beat down a cd to like 70mb or so. I ran across a torrent that was compressed that way, I had to google the file name, but an older compression utility on my Linux box expanded it from 70mb to the full 680mb.

I will research and see if I can run across it again.

Well, no joy. Best I got was StuffIt.
    http://www.stuffit.com/compression/comparison.html

I also found that video is hard to compress due to it’s non linear data. Aka. No, or few, redundant streams to compress. Unlike an application; which has 100’s of thousands of lines of redundant code, that redundant code can be compressed to a single word with a compression word hooked to the algorithm of the compression protocol. And video is so dynamic in nature that such data redundancies are few.

I know YOU guys knew that, I just wanted you to know that I did. ROFL!

    Ted out.

p.s. Still, there has to be a way of today or tomorrow to beat these files down more.

It’s the worst of the trilogy, in any case, and I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks so. Special effects will never cover up the absence of a decent scenario.

    November 16th, 2007 | 20:30

Rapidshare access is pretty cheap really, considering the stuff you can get from it. But if you can’t get a premium account theres things like http://rapidrip.info/. However these sites always have a limit as to how many parts you can download.

    @Ted

The way to get around the large file size issue with these HD rips is to stop being so cheap and buy yourself some real internet access!

To all of those who only purchase the slowest package, or the package with the least amount of bandwidth trxfer a month, then stop complaining and enjoy the money in your pocket.

The rest of us will be watching a release like this in a matter of hours. :)

Usenet is king! Especially for huge files! I’m not entirely sure how rapidshare works and I don’t use it, so I can’t help you guys. Either way my upload is nowhere near as fast as my download speed.

Anyway regarding playback of MKV (the containter) and x264 (the name of the h264 encoder). The only set top box that can play these files on your TV is called the TIVX. Even then I believe you need a PC to stream it from.

These files are primarily meant for Home Theater PCs. That is a PC connected to a TV or HDTV (an HDTV is essential if you really wanna see how good these files really look).

From what I’ve read, it’ll be a few months before we get chipsets integrated into existing DVD playters that will be able to decode these files. And even then, there’s no guarantee that it’ll support the MKV container. Which baffles me, since MKV is an open and FREE format that is SUPERIOR to MP4 format. I hold out hope that a Chinese manufacturer will get it right and release a nice cheap DVD player capable of reading these files from DVD-Rs. Until then, download these HDRips only if you don’t mind watching it on your PC monitor or if you have a HTPC. Simple as that.

No more stupid “Will this play in my DVD player?” questions please.

Some people do not have the benefit of high speed DSL connections due to their locations even though they can pay for it.

In the UK 8MB is pretty much the average speed, though you can have higher if your a cable customer (if it’s available) or live close to a telephone exchange.

  43. Megaman
    November 16th, 2007 | 22:40

    @chrome307

I\’m not sure what kind of country the UK is, but in the US, you send a check and your address to the ISP and they install the T1 line as requested. Case closed.

I know the UK is better than the US at just about everything, so Im sure bandwidth access is no different.

  44. chrome307
    November 16th, 2007 | 22:54

    @ Megaman

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the U.K …….. but that’s that important right now LOL

AFAIK in the UK, the only people that can have T1 lines are businesses, these are not available to the general public and I estimate cost 10x the price of a residential connection.

The UK has one main provider for telecoms (British Telecom), also a cable company Virgin Media. Or ISP’s lease lines from BT and act as resellers. I can only imagine in the US due to your geographical size that you have many providers and methods including satellite.

Our digital infrastructure isn’t that advanced compared to other countries ie Norway, Denmark, Holland which boost higher speeds due to their use of cable providers, the UK still relies and uses copper wiring.

    Just download Extension Changer:

    http://www.seegh.com/dcounter.php?file=extchanger

Then change the extension of the file to .avi

It will probably still be encoded in the x264 format, but at least when it comes to converting the file, most programs can read the file instead of the .mkv container.

For everyone that hates the technical aspects of converting movies to watch on a DVD player, download DVDSanta, it converts .mkv files to DVD so you can play them on your DVD player.

I did not get answer on my question. :) Does anybody convert MKV to XVID in HD resolution and then play it in DVD player which have upscaler – means playing HD XVID or DIVX in plaer via HDMI, it is possible ? I have SONY RDR-750HX and exist software wich can convert MKV to XVID. I will try to test by mysef with trailer.

Point is that I wanna play those HD movies on my DVD player. Sure if this will work than I will must fins some software which can split large XVD file on DVD size 4.3 G

    Cheers

    To the poster above, someone.

Re-download part 37 and any other parts that give you the error as wrong password.

“is it just me, or are xvid (and in some cases even dvdr) unwatchable now that our eyes are accustomed to watching stuff in HD? i skipped around ThP’s dvdr, but decided to hold out for the 720p cuz the dvd just looked bad to me..”

You’re 100% right. After being used to watching 720p POTC, and then watching Superbad DVDRiP, you really notice how bad DVDRiPs really are. I hope that one day all releases will be in HD, IMHO

I use a program called all to avi for converting these HD movies into divx format. You can probably then burn the new file with convert x to dvd, but I have not tried to.
