Pics of Chinese factory girl sold with iPhone
A Chinese factory worker has become an Internet sensation after a picture of her smiling and flashing a peace sign to a co-worker testing an Apple iPhone stayed on the phone that was sold to a man in Britain. Photos of the unidentified, smiling woman were posted on the Apple discussion website MacRumours.com by a customer identified as “markm49uk” from Kingston-upon-Hull and quickly posted around other sites. “Not sure if this is or is not the ‘norm’ but I just received my brand new iPhone here in the UK and once it had been activated on iTunes I found that the home screen (the screen you can personalize with a photo) already had a photo set against it!!!!” he wrote.
“It would appear that someone on the production line was having a bit of fun - has anyone else found this?” Some people voiced concern that the woman could now lose her job while others joked on the website that they were considering returning their phones because they did not come loaded with a photo. “I think its a kind of personal touch. It’s nice. Maybe every phone that gets a full quality test should have its tester’s picture taken and left on there. And the working conditions look pretty good,” wrote one. Taiwanese company Foxconn assembles the iPhones for Apple in Shenzhen in southern China but calls to the company by Reuters went unanswered.

As much as I despise iPhones, I do think this would be great viral marketing, and aside from that, I do side with the people on the forums hoping that someone’s job wouldn’t be lost for something like this. I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but it is kinda cute. And something like 1 out of 1000 phones shipped having the same thing done would give customers a little satisfied “awwww” when they see a the cute Asian girl who signed off their personal phone on the QA line.
Staged viral marketing or not, it’s a brilliant concept.

Everyone is hoping she won’t get fired. Why would she get fired? She wasn’t the one who took the pic and left it on the phone. If someone took a pic of you with a stolen camera, should you go to jail?
I doubt that this is some kind of stealth marketing. Apple would have us to believe that their Iphones are made by naked virgins, in a floating sky castle powered by unicorn power. Rather on some crowded Chinese factory floor. But who knows really?

There was an article about this in todays Metro newspaper..so this isn’t old news.
Article said that all the testers have to take pictures to see if all is working and the ceo of the company said fortunately she forgot to delete the picture. She did not get into any kind of trouble and the ceo saw it as a positive thing since it brought smiles to many peoples faces.

That really makes sense doesnt it; (i) you are complaining about trash talkers while talking trashily yourself. (ii) you don’t need to think you can do better to criticise; I generally criticise the government, that doesnt mean a want or could do the top job myself. (iii) by putting yourself out on the internet, which is a public space, you have to be able to accept criticism, it comes with the turf. The internet is not run by China after all; for public discourse to be valuable you must allow free speach and lack of cencorship. Even your, misguided, opinion has some value after all. :P#
