ive come across alot of links being post here the last couple of months that were asking to input my rapidshare.com login and password info. ive had a premium rapidshare account for about 2years now and the first time in those 2years that its asked me to login again. so i new something wasnt right and i went to rapidshare.com and click on the premium zone link. it automatically directed me to my folders and files. right there and then i knew it was a scam to steal users premium accounts.

To those that report "slow" dl'ing from Rapidshare, get yourself a download manager.

For instance, Internet Download Manager states it:

"IDM divides downloaded file on file segments dynamically, unlike other download accelerators that divide downloaded file in segments once just before download process starts. Dynamic segmentation gives significant download performance improvement. When file download starts, it's unclear how many connections may be opened. When new connection becomes available IDM finds the largest segment to download and divide it in half. Thus new connection starts downloading file from the half of the largest file segment. IDM minimizes the time needed for negotiations with servers and keeps all connections busy."

The reality of this is that your download pipeline is essentially maxed out. Barring an infrequent event, I top out my bandwidth on every Rapidshare download. The same is not true if I don't use a download manager. I can not comment on current Rapidshare speeds as a "free" user, and may only apply as a "paid" user.

If you still have less than your believed max bandwidth download speed, then it is a problem outside of Rapidshare.

@ "rapidshare is so slooooow"
if i'm downloading via my browser speed is quite random too but on 20 streams it's _always_ at the max (10mbit). u feel how websites take longer to load if you don't limit it. try that before whining about RS

"it pisses me off when people use rapidshare they are just idiots with more money than sense,… "

yeah 5 bucks/month could probably feed 100 of you ethiopians ...

I have fiber and I can't get anything over 1MB/s from Rapidshare, however I can get 10MB/s from usenet.

As to the article with the "lock" thing... I've seen phishing sites using real SSL certificates. They go to trustico.com and get the 30 day free SSL cert, and they end up with SSL secured phishing sites.

Here is another thing to look out for... When using official links that are protected. Pay attention to the site it "redirects" you to. Often it is not the link protector site that steals the information but the following site. Heres the catch! The following site can not steal your information if you do NOT input it. So if you feel the site is a fake? Simply look for a different download link.

*Web browsers (Safari, Firefox, IE7, etc) offer to save your passwords, for those of us who do not like retyping them over and over. If you have a password to rapidshare saved and you click to download from a "fake" link it will get your information.
