Group aAF earlier released a pretty old 2-part movie called “Pete And Dub: Behind The Fridge. Some 70s readers here might like this comedy, but I know nothing about it

Hmm, let me see if I got this right. Dudley Moore is known the world over and is a great comic. But just how the bloody heck can ANYONE claim the fame of this Peter Cook when the BEST he can claim for worldwide recognition is that 99.9% of his career was with the BBC (which a major shocker is that not everyone gets this channel nor watches it even if they have it) and a small bit part in “The Princess Bride” movie. In short, this guy cannot in any way be called part of or one of the world’s most revered and influential comics if 85% of the people out there have never heard of him. Red Skelton-Johnathan Winters-Bill Cosby-Benny Hill-Robin Williams…now THESE people fall into the world’s most revered and influential comics. Peter Cook is not even in the same country or planet as these comedic giants. The people who write your synopsis are screwing up royally or english is not one of their spoken languages…and to be honest I dont think any language in Europe or the America’s is part of their language
Peter Cook at least, is definitely considered one of the great satirists of the modern era – on a par with Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, Peter Ustinov, and the Monty Python crew. Sorry if some of the mouth-breathers here haven’t heard of him, (or the long-running satire magazine he helped found called ‘Private Eye’) Sorry but long forgotten comics from the 50’s like Red Skelton might have been great for ones’ granny to worship – but ‘influential’? Hell no. Same goes for Robin Williams and Bill Cosby. Gifted? Sure. But ‘influential’? Not outside of the US, sorry. And the US is only one little country amongst 180+ others – and Peter Cook and Dudley Moore are considered by many to be seriously influential – both for their TV persona’s – as well as their XXX-rated and ground-breaking comedy (as ‘Derek and Clive’)
If you don’t understand it, and have no context or knowledge of the growth of comedy in the EU to know what you’re talking about – please don’t try compare fairly mundane mainstream US ‘comics’ to European satirists – there’s a big difference. It’s called ‘intelligence.’
Common sense, Peter Cook was well known in the United States. Sure, ignorant folk like yourself may not be aware of him though, junior.
Next time just post “I’m ignorant and refuse to learn!!” It’ll be much quicker.
Common Sense – show a little. Peter Cook is rightly regarded as the father of ‘alternative comedy’. If I were to name my top five all-time greats he’d be right up there and he was great until the very week he died. If you don’t believe me then listen to the incredible ‘Why Bother.?’ recordings with Chris Morris (also in the top five). Sure, America has had some great comedians but British comedians have kicked US ass time and again and, best of all, shown you that most of the time, you’re just not that funny (exceptions go to Kinison & Hicks).

By the way, Peter Cook was considered [even by Dudley himself] as the really talented one of the two. He wrote most of the material, and staged it. The fact that he played the straight man most of the time was by choice, and the far harder part to play in this act. I would say that Peter was extremely influencial and that he redefined satiric humour. Ask the current crop of popular comedians who influenced them, and you’ll probably surprise yourself. Personally, I find the material he did with Dudley Moore his very best, and 40 years later it’s still cutting edge.
@8-11…PUH-LEAZE, Peter Cook well known in the US? SINCE WHEN?? Even his autobiography makes no mention of this and none of the newspaper articles about him do either. Go aout and ask people if they know Peter Cook and well over 90% of US and Canadian’s would give you a blank stare, mention even ONE fo the people I mentioned and almost every one will know who you are talking about. So you really need to brush up on your history Jr.
And @7, your post just shows you are too stupid to even own a computer. Since WHEN is Benny Hill an American comic? Last I knew he was born and bred British Citizen. And the last time I looked England is in Europe, that is unless you have moved it. And you really need to READ once in a while. You claim Peter Cook was a “satirist” yet if you would have taken 10 seconds to read what was placed in the synopsis, you will see that THEY called him a comic, hence the reason I was questioning it. It seems you got it right, the difference between my post and yours, as well as the others (8-11) is intelligence as posts 8-11 are also calling Cook a comic. So that means you are also calling 8-11 ignorant.
@11…in all the comics I mentioned I have their autobiographys, and not ONE of them even mentions Cook. So care to state how he can be such an influence when almost 10 of the top world famous comics have never made such a statement? Whoops, sorta blows that argument now dont it?
