RiTUEL PC Rips
RiTUEL are one of the more prominent groups in the shrinking PC Rip scene and i think they are brilliant because they have some great looking custom installers with some nice effects and chiptunes. Over the past few days they have released a few games that have been previously released as full ISO’s by other groups. One of the more practical reasons to get a Rip over an ISO is that even if you have a massive hard drive, downloading for example: Transformers The Game will still take up 3.59 GB and a hefty time to download on an average connection (even with broadband). The PC Rip however is only 207 MB and unpacks at about 1 GB, great if you just want to test the game or just want a quick play. Dead Reefs ISO is only about 820 MB but RiTUEL have reduced this to 260 MB so theres still about 600 MB bandwidth saved.
These PC Rips use advanced compression algorithm’s (much more than WinRAR) so it takes a while longer to unpack, usually around 10 - 15 minutes. As well as compressing the release as much as possible PC Rip groups usually “Rip” (duh!) non essential parts from the games such as cutscenes and extras to cut down the size. I Hope these two releases will come in usefull for some of you. Theres also a cracktro as a little bonus.

I remember the old days of Class and Myth game rips. 6 games on 1 cd, hehe.
Another great ripper: Dopeman. Check his Halo 2 and Shadowrun out, you can find them on sites like Mininova and Demonoid (no, I’m nog giving you the links, search for it you lazy apes!).
One thing about the Transformers rip. The cut-scenes where the best part of the game, and now they are gone? They should have ripped that crappy game and leave the cutscenes.
yeah man never forget the the glory days of Class rips. nowadays it sucks (& a waste of time) to download 3.5 GB and figure out its not worth downloading. Rips can help to see if its worth.

I’m a long time fan of the Game Rip scene.
The other benefit to rip installs is that unlike disk image type installs, if your OS crashes and you need to reinstall Windows, as long as you keep the Rip game folder (including the reg file/bat) and transfer from the old ‘Program Files’ folder to the new one - just add the reg file to the new registry and you’re up and running again - no waiting for tedious setup programs/installing cracks again. Especially good if you have around 80 full games installed!
Anyway, hope to see more Scene Rips - how about ALiAS, FAS, Unleashed, VACE, BACKLASH, MKN, TNT, RAiN, DiViNE, etc. (there’s also plenty of good non-scene Rippers - AsToNish, REVELATiON, iNFiLTRATEDS, KPS and especially DOOM, who does some great Standalone combo’s of expansion packs, allowing you to play them without the original game!)

it’s sad now with isos all over the scene kids aren’t introduced to the demoscene along with the warez scene. all i see nowadays is a hatred cracktro once in a while, which are more of a tongue in cheek throwback than a real attempt at something skillful.

I hate rips of games. I want the entire disc, thank you very much. I learn to be patient on torrents and I have 2tb of scsi drives (after my raid 5) on my server so who cares about space.
any decent webwarez site will have their rips just be sure to use a condom before entering or you`ll be flooded with popups and adware

Both would be nice - different strokes for different folks.
Some games are ridiculously too high on bandwidth just for the cutscenes.. RIPS save the day there, as long as they’re high quality rips.

Reminds me of the times I had to do brainless link clicking for ages. IMO isos are way better, because you can install updates and you’re not missing out on stuff. With bittorrent it’s really simple to get too.
I miss those installers with chiptunes though.
dead reef — why do developers keep making adventure game with dreadful camera and controls? use fps control and camera system. is it too hard? why must they follow resident evil control and camera scheme? cam will jerk back and forth when you move to certain “spots.” freakin’ annoying.

I like rip groups. Gives me a chance to preview a games worth before downloading the full release.
