PC Mod: Weighted Companion
With all the great, big budget games being released last year, my absolute favourite game of 2007 was Portal. It was such a refreshing experience amongst so many generic attempts with so much focus being laid on graphics. If you haven’t played portal yet I strongly recommend you try it out (Read the rlslog post). One of the “characters” in the game was the Weighted Companion cube, which you would use to make your way through various levels.
I thought it was pretty cool to see that Magnus Persson at bit-tech.net who loved the game had modded a PC to look just like the companion cube. The computer is based on a Via Epia EX1500G and its dimensions are 20×20x20 cm. It is not a very powerful computer, therefore it will mainly be used for simpler tasks, however it does look very cool imo.

what somebody needs to do is make a program. where if u download a screener and has a password on it.u just open the program and it finds the password for u. or it cant be done.
Portal is the best game in many many years and that case-mod look awesome!

Nice idea, but it isn’t that hard to do. Plenty of cubic PCs on the market, with a bit of cutting and glueing it should be a breeze to make this thing. I would be impressed if he would have been able to put a working set of SLI cards in that little thing, and some nice light effect. This thing wouldn’t even be strong enough for my girlfriends. Yes, not a typo…
But, like I said, it’s all about the idea. Which, of course, is awesome!

why post about this? every year there are hundreds of pc case mods being made based on games and this is absolutely not the best.

Well actuallty, the real compaion cube was only one level, not various levels.
