Paris - Acid Reflux (Advance) (2008)

If you’re familiar with underground hip-hop, especially on the more political side, I’m sure you’re familiar with Paris.  If you’re not familiar with him, he’s released six solo albums, a collaborative effort with Public Enemy, Rebirth of a Nation, and a very well received group album that featured Public Enemy, NWA’s MC Ren, and more.  Back to his own game, FTD brings us his sixth solo album, Acid Reflux, over a month before it hits stores.  With the implications of the upcoming presidential election, I’m eager to see what the writer of tracks like “Bush Killa” has to say about the current political situation.  If you enjoy alternative or underground hip hop, give this a shot.

Oscar Jackson, Jr. (born October 29, 1967), better known as Paris, is an American Hip Hop artist from San Francisco, California known for his militantly confrontational rapping, and especially the controversial tracks “Bush Killa” and “What Would You Do?”.

GDesigner I agree the cover is a bit cli(che) …thats my beef with Immortal technique…how many psuedo-revolutionary catch-phrases can you fit in a song? But paris has been there since the beginning. Yes, and try READING for once you moron- click the wiki link (yes I know its hard to read for you- mouth always open but ears fukin’ closed to the world..)

LMFAO!!!…Awww Gawd!…Hmmmmm MAYBE *chinballs* should NOT have written such a one sided style review for a whole buncha nerdz who will NEVER know who Paris is…With you re-enforcing his “Controversial/Negative” aspects, but completely ignoring the fact this man HAS to be one of the ONLY rappers EVER be ALSO known for giving FREEE financial advice for everyone and anyone who is poor,in the ghetto, and trying to REALLY find a way to change your life… Yes…you read right…NOT passing out gunz…but passing out info on how to KEEP and SAVE your own $… …That photo of paris can defenitly NOT be used to judge a man through and through…It is a shame that this totally fly’s over the headz of 99% of the people here, who ALWAYS complain about rap…but i KNOW you all keep downloading these shyttie lil wayne songz ect…So get something GOOOD for once…and GET PARIS NOOOW!!!…

…Not to mention that photo is probably a DECADE old,and is NOT used as a Promo-Shot for his NEW album…AT ALL!!!… …You can thank CHINBALLZ for your now blinded view of Paris…I guess it beats actually having to LEARN about someone your self eh?…LOL

    August 3rd, 2008 | 22:05

There’s something about music posts which makes them draw out all the ignorant close-minded idiots (granted, that was fairly redundant), so they can bash music they’ve never listened to based on a picture and a few lines of text.

Seriously, you’re at the level of YouTube comments. Why not educate yourselves before you post, or just not post at all? You won’t change anyone’s mind. You’re only making yourself look stupid. At best, you might get people who are like you to agree with you in some sort of textual circle jerk.

Sure, once you have educated yourself, you still might not like the music. You can’t please everyone, but at least some people have the sense and courtesy to shut up about things they don’t like, or at least put forth their opinion in a civil manner with actual reasoning.

“Without investigation, there is no right to speak.”

    August 3rd, 2008 | 22:24

This is not music. This is horrible rhyme put to a crappy, primitive beat.

With role models like Paris, we will keep the prisons full of young blacks and poor white trash.

  37. emq
    August 3rd, 2008 | 22:47

@Nash - you know why people are bashing this release? (yea - release) because this pic (and cover) are HILARIOUS. Grenades? SERIOUSLY? That’s a nice upgrade; guns just ain’t enough nowadays, yo!

    LL COOL J.

  40. don't know why i bother
    August 4th, 2008 | 00:01

guys… he’s a revolutionary, listen to the songs before you write him off as another 50 cent or lloyd banks, notice how even in the picture you can see a Che Guevara book and if u didn’t kno was an actual armed revolutionary, paris is making a statement maybe he’s putting guns in the pic for dramatization and to attract close minded wannabe gangsta’s who draw arms for material and wealth while revolutionaries although i’m not justifying it draw arms for want of eventual peace and freedom, completely different so just don’t judge a book by its cover no matter what it seems like, stay upp everyone peace.

  41. Remeber, remeber..
    August 4th, 2008 | 00:06

What a pleasant intellectual treat. Song like “Blap That Ass Up” and “Bush Killa” just oozes intelligence and artistic expression. As if that wasnt enough, this fine musical genius strikes a cool and so evil looking pose with guns. I mean look at him with his hood over the face, its so hardcore! The grenades is really the icing on the cake, it doesnt get more hardcore that grenades, only having automatic weapons is so 90’s. What a fine masterpiece from the highly advanced negroid culture of america.

I read what 11-punxntramps yelled at me and various other serious binezz comments and decided to follow 11-punxntramps advice and read up on mah boi Paris, and now I agree with the rest of you serious binezz comments that this an hero is not selling out young black youth for profit and feeding his self serving ego portraying him self as a slave of the cr@kas, and that black youths only option is to be a gangsta since there is no chance for them of success and might as way give up.
This CD opened my eyes thanks guys, Plus he gots a Che and Agents of Repressions book plus 2 grenades a tech 9 a glock and coke, plus he had 2 grenades!!11! OH SHI MAH BOI GOTS TWO REAL GRENADES!!11!!1

  60. Zero Respect For Kids Here
    August 4th, 2008 | 09:28

@punxntramps & other similar comments to his:

It goes to show the amount of knowledge all these “KIDS” here have with respect to Paris, to the album cover and world political knowledge.

Listen up ignorant fools, Paris does everything on just this cover for a point, a purpose that none of you seem to be able to grasp. Your quick to say just another rapper looking like a fool, but its YOU who is the fool because you don’t even look at the whole picture. Know what those books on the left are about, do you see him holding them trying to look like hes trying to be hard? They are there for a reason. Do some research on this guy, hes been around since the late 1980s (The Devil Made Me Do, Paris ss in a league of his own) and then you’d understand what this label truly is stating, there is a BIG statement there but your all to foooking ignorant, but for who I mentioned above, to even know. All 2000’s rappers can’t touch Paris on how he brings a message across in his music.

Yeah this made my day too, I was waiting for this and nice to see it but I will buy it from his web site after.

Whilst I completely support people of all ethnicities travelling wherever they want I do think there should be special islands for people like BlueEyedKiddieFiddler (australia is probably the best one - I mean, it was used for centuries as a place to dump all the british (and later euro) sex offenders and trash).

You’ve got to laugh at the racists on this topic though, I don’t think there is a single post on here saying that their dislike of hip-hop is simply a dislike of the music. It’s all couched in psuedo-racist terms.

  63. MelC
    August 4th, 2008 | 12:48

as an addendum to my last post - absolutely no offence meant to the ozzies; my suggestion of .au was completely tongue-in-cheek. I wouldn’t wish an invasion of small minded bigots on you.

    Oh, man….
How can people listen to such stuff nowadays…I wonder where have real musicians gone… (rap = cr@p)

  65. Not your taste? = you are stupid
    August 4th, 2008 | 14:34

    Ok, I understand now…

either… you know the history of this guy, like his music and are by default CORRECT.

or… you personnaly do not like this style of music or this particular artist and are therefore by default WRONG.

Why do people get so upset about negative comments in the music sections? If the guys is sh!t, i want some one to tell me hes sh!t!

Just to back up my own words I dl’d this, gave EVERY track a full play, and it is not good, enough said.

    August 4th, 2008 | 15:27

Most of you turds on here posting have no idea who Paris is.

First of all he is not a gangsta rapper.

Secondly, most of you shouldn’t even bother downloading it because you will find it offensive…unless you like being called redneck, whiskey tango devils :)

Thirdly, the revolution will not be televised.

  68. GDesigner

LMAO at all of these people trying to “educate” us about Paris… Oh, he’s got a book by Che? Damn, he must be smart! Most cliche sh*t out there. Kids wearing t-shirts of Che. Fight the power!

I don’t need to download his album or read his “wiki” to say that the images and track titles are nothing short of the mindless crap churned out every week. It doesn’t take a poli sci genius to insult Bush…or claim that your people are being trampled. FFS, it’s a bunch of crap, and those of you trying to justify it with ebonics certainly aren’t helping the ca(u)se.
