Here’s just a quick info about this new cam of Paranoid Park. This psychological drama tells the story of a young skater who gets accidentally involved into death of a security guard. According to the first reviews, this looks like a fine title to watch not only if you sleep next to your skateboard. The quality is surprisingly good for a cam.
Winner of the 60th Anniversary Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Gus Van Sant’s latest work continues the oblique, lyrical trajectory established by Gerry, Elephant and Last Days. Yet despite its layered narrative and hypnotic visual and sound design, Paranoid Park is also an immediate, frequently funny exploration of the coping mechanisms that kick in when disaster strikes. The titular location is a skate park where young boarder Alex (Gabe Nevins) forms a casual acquaintanceship that will change him forever. Based on Blake Nelson’s novel, shot by Christopher Doyle, and peopled by a non-professional cast sourced largely from MySpace, this is a devastating fusion of sensitive storytelling and boldly original construction.

The aspect ratio is all wrong — the film was shot and projected at 4:3, and this looks even wider than 16:9, so it must be missing a LOT of the image on the top and bottom. But I guess people who watch a cam won’t really care about stuff like that.
