Paramount Pictures & R5′s
I would just like to take a moment to share some information I have gathered. From my research, Paramount Pictures have never released an ‘R5′ of any of their productions. Please do correct me if I have missed something.
A little bit about R5′s… what we know as an ‘R5′ tagged release from the scene is a studio-produced unmastered telecine, put out quickly and cheaply to compete against telecine piracy in Russia. Mostly they are released with Russian audio only, so scene groups have to source direct English audio. Not all studios are on board for this and so do not release them, Paramount is one of them. DVD region 5 actually covers a lot of countrys and not just Russia, see here. I will be refering to ‘R5′ as the studio-produced telecines put out in Russia and not the retail region 5 DVD releases.
Please take the time to look through Paramount’s list of productions and you will see that none of the productions have had an ‘R5′ released before the retail release, See list here.
The list includes ‘Indiana Jones 4‘, ‘The Love Guru‘, ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging‘. Also, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk may very well fall under this too as Paramount are distributors for them, however Marvel would have the most leverage over releasing R5′s for their movies and I don’t think any of their previous productions have had any R5′s releases. There is no Russian distributor listed for Iron Man although Universal is listed for The Incredible Hulk.
Whenever you see ‘estimated’ R5 dates, they are just that… guesses, please try not to take them literally.
This is just my opinion based on my research, so, you *may* still see an R5 of the before mentioned movies, but its doubtful in my opinion.
Edit: As pointed out in the comments, rightly so, Disney also does not release R5′s.
thankyou for the info
Actually “Iron Man” is listed on torrents.ru estimated-R5-list for september/october 2008…
So which is it, do they not release R5s at all, or do they just release R5′s *after the R1/2 release*? ‘cos if it’s the latter, then “I’ll wait for the R5″ is a perfectly valid, if a little perplexing, choice.
Great Article. <3 rlslog
Fantastic 4 2 and Spiderman 3 both had R5′s i think GhostRider did too
at last someone who actually understands what a r5 is what a telecine is and who releases them well done it needed saying because most people who comment on this site dont really understand and as for a telesync being better than a screener as someone commented on indy 4 get your eyes tested mate screener is a direct source telesync is a cam no competition
@6 you are right!!!!
Also, most of these get screeners anyways
Just like The Love Guru, which had a dvd screener in its 2nd week in the theatre
isnt there an r5 of indiana jones????????
no there is no r5 for indiana jones 4
thanx for the info.
cheers for the info but no need to get snotty about people posting about r5 release dates there is new people getting into downloading films every day so you are always going to have “”noobs”" asking questions like this, get used to it if it wasnt for “”noobs”" from a couple of years ago we would have no seeds when downloading movies so think of the future seeds we will have if the “”noobs”" are fully aware of what they are doing just tought i would post this cause i have seen a lot of antinoob comments coming from people on this site
I can’t believe that I’ll probably have to wait till December for a good quality Dark Knight rip. I don’t have the money to see it in theaters and the only thing I have is the PreVail release (which is still decent quality but nowhere near as good as a dvdrip/R5/Screener.
If TDK R5 or Screener is released within the next week, I swear I will download it and then stop being a pirate forever as TDK is the only thing I want right now.
thanks for the info
well done
you’re technically wrong. when it goes retail in russia, it will be in PAL and sold as a DVD with R5 protection, thus an R5 DVD, but cleaned and mastered. But by that time, there will be an R1 retail pred in the scene, so it won’t matter to all the kidz at rlslog. i know a nitpick, but you should strive for accuracy. and why hire another lame editor who just copies and pastes? a space monkey can do that.
Ummmmm DVDScr still come out, so we can just say we’ll wait for R5/DvDScr. I can’t speak for everyone here but personally I don’t give a rats ass which company makes the movie I want to see so I don’t bother to check to see if it’s Paramount or Universal or whatever.
indy 4 as been estimated for october, the hulk november, mummy 3 september , hellboy 2 said august but its doubtful unless something crops up before month is out
Thanks for the info
Ill wait for the R5
@10 scr0ff thanks dude!
The Love Guru <- that R5 has came out.
or wait, that was dvd screener, k
Disney also never released an R5!!!
Thanks for this info, keep posting this kind of scene info…
thanks for the info…
after looking around the net found this..
http://www.comingsoon.net/dvd/?year=2008&month=9
on 30th of september it does say there is a retail dvd of ironman plus forgetting sarah marshall in a 3 dvd collectors edition i always check that site only because it lists for months on end for releases and also comes in handy for other things.
Article is right. The assumption that everything will just automatically released in R5 is crazy. Lucas has never been a big fan of screeners. Iron man comes out in R1 on Sept 30, which means it will hit the scene Sept. 15 or sooner..
The joker you must be pretty pathetic if you can’t cough up $8 to go see the dark knight at the theatres. Your internet connection probably costs atleast double that. Pathetic people.
If the quality of scene CAM’s wasn’t so bad then we wouldn’t have to wait for R5′s
of course… allways look for release dates in amazon or dvd news sites… some movies worth the price (cool packages, gift sets, etc) and TDK or similar are to be wacht in movie theathers… just donwload those crappy ones (romantic comedies, etc)…
@The Joker
Stop being a cheap ass bro, the movie has been out in theatres for a couple of weeks now. Pay $8 to see the film the way its MEANT to be seen.
I truly feel sorry for you if you fail to follow the above.
I have much more things to worry about than going to a theater. Like, you know, paying for food and bills. I am just barely getting by. I don’t know where you guys live but here in America it is getting harder and harder to survive.
The nearest theater to me is like an hour away so it isn’t just like $10. Add that to the cab ride there and back and it is much more than that.
An Internet connection is much more valuable to me than a trip to a theater. And no, I am not being cheap. I will buy it when it comes out on DVD.
he`s got a point there same here in UK, all the prices are going up
@ Vincent Chase
STFU
An hour cab ride?
Don’t people in the US have thumbs?
@31
Wait a minute. You’re on a site that specialises in telling people when new movies are leaked on the internet, and allows people to post links to where they can download them…
..and you’re telling someone they should be going to the cinema.
Let me get this straight… you come to RLSLOG just for the message boards then?
A lot of interesting points made here a lot of which are valid. I for one would like to see a full proper article done on this topic. Including those studios who do and don’t RLS r5′s. Please correct me if I am wrong but is the audio on several r5′s not in English to try and prevent North America from copying the discs as well? (not that is does much good)
Don’t listen to him Joker. He’s an idiot.
@32 Man if life is hard for you, I would save the cash you are gonna blow on the DVD and like, buy rice or something, like ALOT of rice…
OT – All the people that stress over release dates crack me up, they come when they come, its a way better suprise when an R5 or Scr just pops up and makes your day, rather than checking and rechecking and spamming unrelated boards day in day out for that alusive, fabled, ‘any day now’ release.
you can see the darkknight now in the older theather now
where i live you can pay $3.
I need that $3 to pay my gas.
Free maVen
Damn were can i pay 8 bucks for a movie its $12 here on the east coast plus $5 for a soda lol
I’ll bet you The Joker’s a fkn kid who’s internet connection is probably being paid for by his folks.
Can’t make ends meet & yet he’s prepared to shell out for the retail DVD? Yeah right!!!
Great article, ‘Calender’ your an ass, read the article again.
‘Liljake351′ your an ass as well. $22 a ticket for me plus someone to look after my kids, just not going to happen and if I like the movie I will buy it when it is released in my country so get a life and stay away from sites like this.
@36
If a film is worth being supported, I’ll gladly go to the cinema to enjoy it in its entirety..when a quality rip comes out, I’ll grab it.
If a film I deem is NOT worth going to the cinema to see, I’ll wait for a good copy thats posted on RLSLOG.
*Doesn’t take rocket science to know that’s commononers sense…
@7
You clearly have not seen the screener for Indy 4. The TS is slightly darker but in wide screen and a touch sharper on the picture, the screener is blurry as hell and in 4:3.
A good TS can be better than a bad screener both on visuals and audio, while in theory a screener should always be better its not the case and you do get the occasional amazing TS that won’t be beat till the R5 or retail rip arrives.
The Joker needs to quit his job at Mcdonalds and get his life together
i say blame the scene for this………..their lack of TC’s is the cause of this…….i want piracy now!
MAVEN GET TO WORK ON THOSE HIGH QUALITY CAMS
PUKKA GET BACK THE R5′s TC’s
EVERBODY ELSE NEEDS TO WORK ON GETTING SOME DVDSCR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOT VHS!
BOTTOM LINE>>>faster better, you lazy bastards, stop b*tching, start releasing!
GOSH THS IS higher in my eyes then you guys!
DIAMOND NEEDS TO START RELEASING THOSE DVDRIPS A month early like back in the day!
Wasn’t there an R5 of Beowulf?
Does anyone know when any of these dvds are coming out?
Iron Man
Hulk
Wall-e
ironman – 30th sept
hulk – Release date: 13-10-2008
wall-E – no official release date as of yet.
30th sept for iron man, thats … wel sucky
at th e end of the day….
if a r5 release s out there its great!
if not we wait for the dvdrip…
other than that watch a poor crapy cam,
rather you than me cos if i want the movie
i buy it anyway (dont matter how many copies i downloaded)
you pays your money you takes your choice (or not!)
The Paramount logo looks like a pyramid with the sun rising behind it. I wonder if other film companies have masonic logos?
i believe there was a r5 of beowulf
beowulf was distrubuted by warner bros outside us
indeed
there was a R5 of beowulf and stardust, and im sure there is a couple more in there somewhere
can everyone stfu about The Joker? Seriously, I know what it’s like to be in that situation where you can’t freely spend money. It may be time constraints or money constraints, but seriously, leave the poor guy alone. If he can’t go to the theater, he can’t.
on a much more related note, thank you for posting this. it’s great to read comments for almost every single r5 release asking when Iron Man will come out. I will admit I check this site religiously hoping to see if it is released even though I know by heart I will have to wait until sept 30 to buy the DVD.
@47 yes i have seen the screener for indy 4 and it is twice as good as the telesync its a cam you knob and the screener is a direct source some bloke sitting in the cinema with a handycam compared to properly transfered film no comparison
Interesting..hmm.. Thanks for the info man..
lol @ the dude who has no money, you gotta start slangin or prostitutin yourself if you can’t afford to go to a movie
Just wondering… how many chicks visit rlslog?
well slap my ass and call me Mary! Who really give a flying F’ck… i’m happy as long as i get my fix!
ps/ ccs is a douchbag,delete all of it’s comments!
why the hell can’t the scene just relaese Telecines. Like 1408. the telecine quality is nearly as good as an r5 and perfectly watchable. They sit around with telesyncs forever.
@ 67 sc0rff
So exactly how did PUKKA come up with the ‘R5′ tag, was it region based because Russia is in region 5, or is ‘R5′ just an abbreviation for Russia?
@ 67
do you still have that nfo somewhere?
also, why do you call them telecine’s, a method of record still frames and turning them into a video file, when r5′s are already full working DVDs from Region-5 if what i believe is correct?
Okay…so let me get this straight…
An R5 release is a release that a studio themselves will put out hastily and quickly to compete in Russia’s piracy market of movies so they don’t loose too much money due to the piracy…?
Where does “R5″ come from…what is R1 or R2? (68 asks this too)??
The talk of R1′s and R2′s make it seem like the studios release multiple versions or something…if so why don’t they just release the one…? That seems like a lot of time and effort directed toward a market that doesn’t technically exist…
Thanks in advance for helping a nubzor!!
@71
Thanks a bunch! Clears up everything!
I just wasn’t sure if i understood it correctly…but i think i do now!
ah , I always thought R5′s were just produced by Russian’s with their own film to dvd transfer equipment … didnt know the studios were involved
@ sc0rff
“Please take the time to look through Paramount’s list of productions and you will see that none of the productions have had an ‘R5′ released before the retail release” –
I’ve just made a search on the web and previous scene R5 releases and must admit you’re right
“Whenever you see ‘estimated’ R5 dates, they are just that… guesses, please try not to take them literally.”
Most of the R5 dates for the past few months proved to be not just guesses – take the time and look on the R5 section here – on this blog.
I think the first R5 was by PUKKA and it was that james Bond movie.
@ 71 sc0rff
“I will be refering to ‘R5′ as the studio-produced telecines put out in Russia and not the retail region 5 DVD releases.”
R5 is NOT a retail region 5 DVD? So, they don’t sell them in stores, or distribute them as DVDs? Now, that’s some explanation, since “DVD region 5 actually covers a lot of countrys and not just Russia.” Dude, you need to reread your article, better yet, get your facts straight before you write another one.
@ 77 sc0rff
I realized that, the first time I read your article. I just see a contradiction in your article, and the answer you gave, R5′s are region 5, yet, they are not.
Now, let’s go back to my first question. I always assumed R5 stood for region 5, your article made me understand R5s as something other than region coding. If that makes any sense.
for what sake’s we need r5 in october of hulk or iron man when those movies will be realease on dvd/bd on that time.it’s 4-5 months after aired in cinemas.time for proper legit realeses not r5 line or etc.
@ 79 sc0rff
Does R5s and mastered DVDs very in price range? If yes, I see why certain studios opt not to release R5s before the masters, that’s just their way of combating international online piracy, while still allowing low income consumers to make a purchase.
Thanks for the info.

I will say this.. Paramount usually has DVDSCRs for their movies… they distributed Sweeney Todd, Stop-Loss, and recently Indy 4 (VHS SCR)… So there is hope

I’d like to know if there is a scene release for this that RLS knows about… if so will it be listed soon?
My friend has a dvdscr of TDK. I’m going to borrow it. What should I use to rip and compress it?
@ Galvy
Ok first of all i find it hard to believe that your friend has a DVDSCR of TDK. And if he does use Nero Recode to convert it to mp4 and upload it.
The reason telecines dont come out that often are that the machines are DAMN expensive last time i checked. Back in the day they cost like 100,000$ for the machine to transfer a film reel to a dvd, and thats why only like 1 or 2 groups ever released them. I just want to get back to the good ol days of the amazing quality SVCD TS’s that came out back in like 2004
Paramount Pictures have thr worst dvdsrcs. Iron Man, Indi Jones to name two.
Indiana Jones and Iron Man were VHS screeners *not* DVD screeners.
