Parallels Workstation v2.2.2222 - Windows & Linux by EMBRACE

Parallels Workstation is one of those so called “virtualization” applications (if you know what is VMware, this is “same sh!t different package” :D ). In short this program allows you to install different OS (operating system) side-by-side on your main OS. For example if you’re running WinXP you can install some of Linux editions (Ubuntu for example) or vice versa. EMBRACE has released two editions of this, one for Windows users and other for Linux users. If you’re new to this virtualization stuff, you can read more about it on wiki. Personally i prefer VMware instead, but we all have different tastes.

Description:

Use Windows? Like Linux? Have it all on a single PC.
Parallels Workstation is an easy-to-use, easy-on-the-pocket solution that lets you run Windows, Linux and more side-by-side on a single PC without rebooting.

Truly revolutionary, Parallels Workstation empowers users of any skill level - including computer professionals, sales executives and home users - to easily run multiple operating systems on a single computer. Completely networked. Stable. Secure.

i guess a quad bycicle and rolls royce are “same sh!t” as well… four weels, gets you places… comparing parallels to vmware workstation is kinda like that.

This is total piece of garbage.
I couldn’t even boot from windows xp image. It boots up fine in regular computer even in virtualbox and vmware.
One good thing I could say though, it didn’t ask for reboot after installation and uninstall. That’s about it.

waste of time. CPU killer Paralells has the same need to eat 120% of your resources as VMWarePlayer does.
The question is: why would I need another OS on my Computer?!

a)i have linux and want to run WindowsTools.
    Try Wine…AdobeCreativeSuite 2 works fine.
    DX aint working anyways.
b)i have windows and just want to see how linux
    looks like. Try a LiveCD.
c)I have to run many different services of serveral OSs with just one machine. GSX or ESX by VMware is your only solution.

Yet any solution but a full virtualisation Server like ESX or GSX sucked to me. I dont want VMWarePlayer or Para or VirtualPC to eat all my memory while keeping the original Desktop also in RAM.

Very useful for testing but doesn’t beat VMWare, yet.

VMWare is the standard for cross-os virtualization (as opposed to the virtualization built in the linux kernel, but that is for linux->linux). Don’t even waste your time with ANYTHING else, seriously.

    Gentoo ftw! :)

holy crap this thing is 20megs?? How come VMware I’m using is so bloody big?

  24. EliteXero
    February 20th, 2008 | 20:46

Because VMWare is much more useful.

    February 20th, 2008 | 21:10

MS Virtual Server or Virtual PC are free and don’t use as much resources as VMware when running on a Windows host.

I’ve tried VMWare and Virutalbox (free open source):

VMWare Workstation (NOT the VMWare Player) works great under XP. External USB drives work very well.

Virtualbox works just fair under XP. USB support is unstable.

Is there a OS X version (parallels were dedicated to OS X in the past) ?

    You should read this http://www.techthrob.com/tech/linux_virtualization.php
