I dunno about the 2008 version, but if it’s anything close to the previous versions it will most likely hog loads of resources, freeze occassionally and do loads of other irritating stuff. Norton pales in comparison.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to use Panda Antivirus. NOD32 is still the best there is…

i have used panda before and it worked great but i would stick with a Kaspersky or Nod32. i would rank it in the top 5 security suites

used a older Panda AV, tended to be a system hog, hopefully they fixed it, but still, ill stick with AVG and Zone Alarm Pro, works fine.

That makes me a sad panda? South Park reference isn’t it? On a mac and haven’t tried this but friends from work use Panda and they seem to know what they’re doing so I guess it’s pretty good.

Hmmm…I thought BitDefender was supposed to be number 1. All I use is AVG, and it seems to do the job. At least what I need it for, but all I do is scan downloaded files. Don’t run those weekly scans usually.

It won a series of tests here in Finland. Those tests included kaspersky, norton, bitdefender, f-secure etc.

I’ve been using it for 4 years now and I am pretty much pleased. Theres a lack of freatures for expert users and that is why I am going to buy… *krhm* download Bitdefender.

Antivirus software firm Panda Software has been linked to the Church of Scientology.

Google that, made some noise some years ago but I don’t know what the situation is now.

Panda AV is the worst antivirus software ever! I worked for Panda Technical Assistance and I had to deal with it. Trust me, you do NOT want this sw installed in your beloved PC.

Do I really need AV on my PC? Friends of mine have gotten infected, but not mine.

Two weeks ago I installed Norton AV Corp. It added 7 processes to the list. A Drag…

Is this necessary for a single experienced user?

Demonsweat, norton is known resource hog :)

And no, Av’s are pointless anyway, go with Firefox and good firewall, i recommend Outpost Firewall.

    January 18th, 2008 | 00:48

bah this is one of the worst of the worst, norton and mcafee just below. Avast Pro is still what I use and I\’ve tried just about all of the popular av. Nod32 is good but I\’d use it only as a backup if your still wanting to keep it, thats my opinion. Kaspersky imo is better than nod32 as well. Avast Pro with Counterspy is a killer combo. Avast has found more than nod32 did when I compared, as well Kaspersky did too.

  26. Jason
    January 18th, 2008 | 00:55

Kaspersky and NOD32 are the best antivirus, all-around, the home user can buy. The best free one is Antivir. Panda doesn’t “suck” but it’s average, as is Symantec (Norton). Avast and AVG are nothing special, but also they’re also free and if you don’t know about Antivir, better then nothing.

“Antivirus software firm Panda Software has been linked to the Church of Scientology.”

Dude, where did you hear this crap? Totally false, Panda is based in Bilbao (my city), got a couple of friends working there and has nothing to do with scientology.. in fact this cult is mostly unknown here.

By the way, I like kaspersky better but this one is neat too;-)

  31. Kasper
    January 18th, 2008 | 07:29

I’ve used Panda AV for years (and I’ve actually paid for it, wooaa!)

Many here says it’s a resource hog, which is true, but if you turns off the whole “protection against unknown threats” thing and ONLY stick with the AV+Spam option, you should be fine. And remember to turn off diagnostic scans at start up and every 15 minutes.
Yes I know, you shouldn’t have to turn off prime features to get the product run smoothly, but trust me, I’ve never had any problems with either spam nor virus in the 5 years I’ve used Panda, and I really do visit a lot of porn sites. :-D

Whoever worked in tech assistant i pity you, as a company it sucks big time, not a good place to be. I had the misfortune to test it and its the kind of antivirus that expects you to live a life centered around it, as you didn’t have anything else to do than scanning your system. Sucks. Why would you use it being able to download nod or kaspersky?

  33. Miss Bell
    January 18th, 2008 | 09:01

Kaspersky is up there with the best. Avast is a good FREE option.

    January 18th, 2008 | 11:15

Panda Antivirus is utter wank.. Same as nortons, and the majority of the others, use nod32 or f-prot. Failing that, hold down ctrl+alt+del press up three times, disconnect your monitor, and hoof it out the window..

  35. Neil
    January 18th, 2008 | 12:00

The 2004 version of Panda worked like a charm, 2005 version had some new features to it..a anti spyware feature that used up lots of system resources. Panda issued an update and the problem was fixed. 2006 till 2007 version had basically the same features.

It’s not a bad program.. but you have to unmark a lot of the default settings for the program to work in the background. If you don’t you will be bombarded with pop-ups about everything ths program finds on your computer…even if nothing’s wrong..

    Guys check out this:

What do you think of it? I mean, the ranking is kinda weird…

I bought a panda license for a year and I am about to renew this license. Is a great AV. Since I discovery http://www.pandasoftware.com I always used total Sacn to analyze my Pc. They offer free total scan to remove Virus. Neither Norton had this about 6 to 7 years ago! The only problem is that the AV is heavy,so you will need a nice machine to make it wotk good.

    @ 39 Yass:
This is scene-release. How many times we have to say that it’s false positive. Get decent antivirus, many exe-packers can cause that AV spots them as a virus.

I can confirm that this software IS developed by the Scientologists. Ok, here’s the proof: I installed this and the program got rid of my viruses, however, they left my computer and jumped onto my lounge.

@47: Panda is crap compare to the resource hog (Mcafee/Symantec). I work for big corporations in the IS dept and Data Center and never see panda use. I dont know which company you are referring too but you need to check your facts before posting…http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

BTW… Panda has never ranked in any Corp reviews, maybe for home use =D

    I have Panda 08, and I have Nod32
Panda is faster that Nod32 But I still think Nod32 is better program. Panda is Much better than Norton Internet Security, McAfee, and AVG
Now I have never used kaspersky, But I have heard good things about it.

If you work for a big corporation and use Top Ten Reviews (actualy a scam site) for anything you should think to get other, non IT related, job…

AV-Test.org, Veritest, Gartner, IDC and other industry-leading analysts put Panda in their top picks.

Just an example, form a corporate point of view, specially to you: http://www.lionbridge.com/competitive_analysis/reports/panda/Panda%20-%20AntiVirus%20Performance%20Study%20-%20v0.9.pdf

Regarding they being scientologists, it’s simply not true anymore. They are now owned by four of the biggest equity capital groups in the world.

How do I know this? I happened to work there…
