I have the Canon PowerShot TX1. It’s a small little camera that records in 720p. Quality’s great, the only downside is that it fills up an 8gb SDHC card in half an hour . I wish it had this camcorder’s USB host function.

It’s not matter of what YOU THINK YOU KNOW..SANJO.. it’s a matter of the realities and what is happening “behind the scenes” in Vista.. Just because you think you know how it works, doesn’t actually mean that it actually does work that way..

Unless you actually find out what’s happening as opposed to spouting BS, your “informed opinion” doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot.

BD and HD dvd use hdcp to encrypt its content. You will need a direct line to play them, Hdcp Video card to Hdcp monitor. If Theres a break in the line the movie will be down sampled. Nothing is saying 1080p QT trailers will not output. Any open source format(1080p H.264) should also output full 1080p.

Look.. Vista cripples hd sourse UNLESS they bare the hd signature… EVERYTHING ELSE IS DOWNSAMPLED..

@dan.. ok Ive looked futher and YES xp CAN play 1080p source at native resolution (although you need a fast comp!!))

BUT VISTA DOESN’T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless ALL of the hd sigs are present (and it also relies on compatible hardware) VISTA WILL ABSOLUTELY DOWNSAMPLE 1080 CONTENT!!!

Those who say that it playes fine… CAN’T TELL AN HD SOURCE FROM THEIR ASS!!!!

xp and vista both can run 1080p to a tv, all you need is a fast cpu and a video card that supports hdcp.

You can play 1080p video on XP, I have done so many a time. As the text says, it will record onto both disks and memory cards, so the only thing you will need to get the video data onto your computer is a dvd drive/memory card reader/cable presumably (firewire or usb.)

Whether you will WANT to watch home videos in 1080p is another question entirely. Dear god, think of the PORES man!

Panasonic always makes a good product. I own and use a 100B most of the time, but have fooled around with their HVX-200P as well. They know their stuff in both HD and SD, and if this opens the market up to the intro-level consumer, and helps promote more creativity, and higher production values in all of the future film nerds of the world, then I’m definitely looking forward to it.

…I’d also like to see what would happen if someone with booth access bought themselves one of these.

Nice…ish.

But what’s the point of getting this?

The only way to get the HD video out in proper quality would be to have an HDMI output on the camera it’s self… FORGET trying to do it via computer.. Win XP can’t handle the task AND VISTA has been crippled to downsample ALL HD video UNLESS it has the HD digital signature running through it.. which it doesn’t.

When are people going to learn.. YOU ARE NOT GETTING HD QUALITY ANYTHING… EVERYTHING IS BEING DOWNSAMPLED.. the hardware isn’t compatible with each other yet.. and it ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE in order for VISTA to show it..

PEOPLE do some reading about the HD scam Vista is purporting.. it’s all one big CON!!
