Overclocked-JFKPC

A 2 DVD adventure? You have to be kidding me. What’s wrong with the game developers lately? I guess the gold pre-Christmas times when every single day brought in some interesting game title are definitely over and we have to survive on the remainders of that feast. Overclocked: A History of Violence is a futuristic adventure from German developers at Lighthouse Interactive. The graphic is nice, but 5 GB is way too much for such a game. At least there’s no protection…

Set against the backdrop of a catastrophic thunderstorm raging over New York City, step into the world of Overclocked as army psychiatrist, David McNamara. You are called to the Staten Island Forensic Hospital in New York City to consult on a case that requires your expertise in forensic psychiatry. Tasked with exploring the minds of five young men and women who were found scared, screaming, and without memory, you make alarming discoveries as you begin to cautiously probe the psyches of your young patients. Throughout the game, you will play as five other characters in this chilling interactive psycho thriller.

Game features

  • Experience Overclocked from various perspectives as you play as six different characters throughout the game
  • Explore 45 diverse locations with densely animated pre-rendered settings
  • Innovative storytelling techniques create a unique gameplay experience
  • Meet and interact with a cast of intriguing characters, each with their own distinct personalities
  • Characters come to life with fluid movements and realistic facial expressions created with Emotion™ FX 2 technology
  • Cinematic cut-scenes designed using advanced camera techniques pioneered by feature films
  • Exceptional visuals enhanced by shadow and shader effects, real-time atmospheric particle effects (rain, snow, lightening), and dynamic lighting
  • Unique icon-based dialogue system

System requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows ME, 2000, XP, Vista®
  • 1.3 Ghz Intel® Pentium® or AMD® Athlon™ processor
  • 256 MV (512 MB RAM recommended)
  • 4x PC DVD-ROM drive
  • Approx. 1.5 GB free hard disk space
  • 256 MB Direct X9 video card (nVidia GeForce 5900+ or ATI 9800) with shader 2.0 support

looks interesting but as the review read…5gb is way too much for this game, i mean if it was on my computer already ok…but download 5gb is a pain…especially off a private tracker where you have to upload it all back, unless you pay…

    I haven’t played a adventure game since.. hell I don’t remember.. Probably early 2005.
Atlantis and atlantis 2, and then the one about the celtic legends.. that had really nice music in the beginning and staring at the star in the sky.. One of the best scenes in any adventure game.

Martin, why the hell should an adventure game be small just because you say so? They’re generally bigger than most. What is it, don’t you approve of the genre? Hardly any adventure games come out anymore, so keep your judgemental opinions to yourself and let the people who want to play it decide wether it’s worth their time.

Why is 5gb too much for a game? A typical game has been 1 dvd, 4gb, for a few years now… why is a bump of 1gb such a big deal? Download time aside, 5gb on a hard drive is nothing nowadays. I welcome the bump, as it generally means there’s more hi-res content and more single player gameplay, something pc games of late have been skimping on.

It’s NOT big for an adventure game! In adventure games you can expect lots of video sequences and audio dialogue which takes alot of space, Aswell al lost of different locations (well furnished, no empty hallways and rooms with just a chair and a desk in it) = more textures. So yeah they tend to be big… Get a clue.

I myself don’t like adventure games so I shouldn’t be posting… But giving stupid reasons and discouraging ppl from from downloading it is wrong IMO.

Too big for an adventure game. BTW if you like the old LucasArts/Sierra type games there’s a free Adventure Game creator and tons of games by fans over at:

What I still can’t believe is that I am re-playing tomb raider 4 the revelation, I remember why I quit playing it. I never did finish it. I stopped after I feel from a ceiling and a bull rushed me and killed me. So I will hopefully finish it this time, it will take even longer though.

Another good adventure game is indiana jones and the infernal machine. I couldn’t believe that it got a bad score at just adventure. It got a C-. My god the game is alot of fun. The graphics aren’t that bad either. It should of gotton a A+.
Since you guys like adventure games, I wish you all could play it, but from what I’ve encountered and read on lucas forums is that it won’t run on XP at all. I tried and know it’s true.

I remember Phantasmagoria and Phantasmagoria II. Now those were some GREAT adventure/horror titles. I wish someone would remake those with current game making capabilities! As far as Overclocked, its not a bad game. The lightning in the prerendered backgrounds is something to behold. And the story is decent and original. But, yes, its a BIG download.

I wouldn’t bash martin so much, at least he posted it. Yeah entitled to his opinion, and maybe didn’t have the pleasure of playing switching between floppy disks in the era that adventures boomed.

The game does kind of look like farenheit/indego prophecy but the gameplay isn’t quite the same, its more of a point and click. It has gotten some pretty decent reviews out there, better than a fair number of some of the more main stream games to hit the scene this year.

If you are looking to review the old adventure scene:
The Longest Journy, Monkey Island Serries, Grim Fandango, Sam and Max, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle. I’m sure there’s more but those are some of my favorites. If you haven’t tried it out yet Fahrenheit (Indego Prophecy in US) Was quite a good one that never really got itself out there.
(for those of you that think you can’t play the old lucus arts adventure games on xp try scummvm)

Oh and my original reason for posting, is this game widescreen or does it support widescreen? I do love playing my adventure games in extra movie mode =p

  29. wham
    April 12th, 2008 | 06:29

The resolution you could use for Widescreen is 1280×960 I see it in the option but I don’t know if you can edit some ini file to make it better. Adventure game are not known for good widescreen support but it seem to work quite well.

Who cares about size? So you won’t get it right this minute, but a good game is a good game. I had to learn a language just so that I could enjoy the original text of one of my favourite books. Patience, 12 year olds, patience.

BTW, for the old schoolers, if you have not played The Longest Journey 2: Dreamfall, you are REALLY missing out. You really connect with the characters and you revisit Arcadia and Stark in beautiful 3D!

@Martin: Your ignorance can only be transparant to people more ignorant than you. Find out what the genre is or keep your opinion to yourself. After all there are plenty of mindless shooters out there for you to revel in so you can afford to be a little generous towards us who aren’t as easily entertained.

  38. ssa
    April 12th, 2008 | 11:18

@Martin: I have always thought that the attitude on Rlslog has been to frown on the genre. Your attitude on Overclocked was the one I finally couldn’t ignore. I decided to see whos name was on the previous adventure announcements. Turns out it’s mostly you. You’ve previously maintained a respectful attitude, I even found this line on “Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin”:
I guess majority of gamers would rather appreciate a new first person shooter but a good adventure can’t do any harm either.
So, I’ll put this to rest and hope I was overreacting to an unintentionally callous remark from you.

  39. VVV
    April 12th, 2008 | 12:24

@Atlas - yeah The Longest Journey 2 is nice but i had the impression that it’s almost interactive movie because the puzzles were rather easy (comparing to TLJ1 or other adventures) but still i had fun and i can also recommend it

Good adventure games are hard to find these days. This one looks awesome. Yes, I’m a big fan of adventure games. Phantasmagoria 1 / 2 are the best ones I played.

Damn, i was just going to remind that monster-sized Phantasmagoria and it seems that half of the rlslog remembers it. :/

Anyway i think that real RPG-s are now even more rare than real adventure games. Sad situation it is, world seems to be getting dumber and dumber everyday…

  49. Godlike
    April 13th, 2008 | 04:50

Isn’t that the bloody truth, TTE! The only decent RPGs these days are the DnD inspired ones. MMORPGs are a joke for inbred virgin mental 12 year olds (yes, I mean ALL wow players and more).

Anyway, on to the point: started the download of the game something like 12 hours ago, game finished by now. Was a good story, not as good as dreamfall, but very decent. Easy puzzles, I suggest to everyone.

hmmm, the installation process did not ask for the second dvd at all, so what’s the purpose of the second dvd????
mounting it apparently skips me thru the verification process, although the error msg came out, but the game can still be run

#47 “However, as info, Phantasmagoria was released 1995 on 7 cd’s.”

To be correct, it was also released in Japan (called “Phantasm”) on the Sega Saturn. This release was 8 CD’s.

How about posting correct information if you feel the need to correct someone.

Wow, Phantasmagoria. That game was great! And yeah, I remember the Tex Murphey series too. I actually requested the entire Tex Murphey series on a private tracker and they were all uploaded in a pack 2 days later. I love the sharing community! <3

mkay, when i mount it, kaspersky gives me virus warning.
    Backdoor.Win32.Small.dlv in data/redist/dxinstall.exe
is this kaspersky being an ass and labeling it as a virus due to its behaviour or is it the real thing?

@70 I have Kaspersky Internet Security (original) and nothing was found (yet,2nd day with game on hdd). KIS can be funny even about ICQ (sending data) when KAV on other PC doesn’t.
I have downloaded game from RS source @13

AMAZING DOWNLOAD SPEED IS AMAZING. I’M GOING TO KILL MYSELF AND BLAME IT ON THIS TORRENT. HOW ABOUT YOU STUPID DOWNLOADERS REMOVING THE MOVIEX TRACKER? THX FOR NOTHIN I’M DOWNLOADING THIS @ AMAZING SPEED OF LIKE ~5 KB/S WHICH OFFICIALLY MAKES THIS THE SLOWEST TORRENT EVER. I’M GOING TO KILL MYSELF

    @SO ANGRY
From someone that don’t know how to turn off caps lock i suspect the problem with the slow dl speed might be on your computer and not the torrent. When you figure out how to turn off caps lock you might want to check your settings to see why the download is so slow.

i got the same virus message but using the avg..i think its a real virus, because on the .nfo file of the game release group say its everything in .rar, this torrent came already decompressed, so there´s a virus on the torrent with .iso files.

    I am getting this error:

    Error in function cCougarGraphics::cCougarGraphics
    Direct3D initialization failed.
    Direct3D Error code: 0×8876086c, D3DERR_INVALIDCALL
    Invalid call
    File: .\source\class_graphics.cpp, Line: 205

Is it because of the crack file?
