Opeth – Porcelain Heart [CDS][2008]
The modern legends Opeth are back on track with some new tracks for all metalheads to enjoy. These guys have created some truly amazing masterpieces. If you haven’t already checked out their previous albums, I suggest you go buy “Blackwater Park” or “Ghost Reveries“. Mikael Åkerfeldt is a true metal guru who has been active in several different projects (including the one and only Bloodbath) and I simply can’t wait for their upcoming album Watershed. These two tracks have been available on p2p for about 4 days now, but finally an official scene promo is released.
Edit: The official single entitled “Porcelain Heart” released on Roadrunner only had the title track on it and the track “The Lotus Eater” has been released for FREE by Roadrunner. It looks like MOD just added a re-encode of the high quality free track to avoid the necessary proof (a photo of the promo) that this is in fact a promo. Want to look into nuking for those points?
Opeth is a Swedish Extreme Progressive Metal band that formed in 1990 in Stockholm. While the band has been through several personnel changes, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt has remained Opeth’s driving force since joining shortly after its inception. While firmly rooted in Scandinavian death metal, Opeth incorporates progressive metal, progressive rock, folk, blues and jazz into their usually lengthy songs. Many compositions include acoustic guitars and strong dynamic shifts, as well as growling and clean vocals.

I’m in no way trying to be disrespectful, but you don’t know enough about this genre of metal to say something like that.
Prog rock and Prog Metal is some of the most sophisticated music this world has to offer.
Also we post plenty of different genres. I’ll admit that its been a bit Metal biased (We have hired 2 editors that also happened to be metalheads in a short period of time)
Please go ahead and give me some suggestions as to what you would like to see. When you say sophisticated music I think of classical music. I love classical music (Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Strauss, Brahms, you name it) but to be honest I don’t know enough about the modern classical music scene so I wouldn’t know where to look.
umm, this is one of the least liked music genres, along with country. i think what he meant was, why not post other types of music? these posts seem to get very little comments, alot of them bad, and really, life is dark eneough, we dont need vampire wannabes to help us understand that. If it was serious music, then the artist wouldnt try so hard to loook like one another. and if you’ve heard some of these guys talk of the mic, they really arent all the smart. Most of them still beat their wives and drink their homebrew cider, its like listening to dirty hick music, lol
Sophisticated? Have you ever tried too listen to any of the albums from Opeth? I totally agree on what you say about the genres embøl. There should absolutely be a more diverse mix of genres posted on rlslog. Too much mainstream’ish stuff. Thumbs up for the post anyways! Can’t wait for the album!

I have to agree with fred on one thing. These bands all do try very hard to look a certain way, and they do all look alike, and they do strive to be as dark as they can. I like the music, it would just be nice to see some unique images once in a while.

would it be so hard to not try super hard to look a certain way? If it was all about the music, then they wouldnt put so much effort into sounding and looking dark… Even the bands themselves admit they are selling their image more then their music. and the sadd reality is, if they didnt look that way, people wouldnt be as interested in the music. you guys should try watching some of the bios on death metal bands, and when you see them at home with with kids and wife, talking about blood and locusts isnt happening.

Just buy yourself eg. the Blackwater Park Album and let it run through a few times. You can’t possibly judge their songs by listening only once to their songs (unlike Eminem or that s**t).
