Open Season R5 XViD - XanaX
A pretty new release format R5 (I think this is just a second release from this source) is already celebrating a decent success. The quality of movies including this magic R5 combination in the name is more than better - it can be clearly compared to best dvdrips. I’ve copied an explanation of this format from one scene NFO for you, as I think that many people still don’t have a clue what’s that.
A grizzly bear named Boog, domesticated by a park ranger, Beth, helps deer friend Elliot escape from the mullet-sporting hunter, Shaw. When the animals escape to the forest the pair become lost just as hunting season begins, made worse by the fact Boog doesn’t know how to survive outside of his beloved ranch. Elliott and Boog develop a strong bond not only between themselves but also with the wild animals and attempt to drive the hunters out of the forest.
Note on R5/TC’s
Over the past 6 months the major movie studios have been releasing
retail dvds early in Russia. They do this to stop the widespread
use of pirated telecines (which were once very common). Lately
however there has been very few real telecines, most of the scene
telecines you see are actually R5 retails.
R5 retail is rushed out by the studio, they are basically competing
with pirates, so there is little to no cleanup of the film after the
telecine process. So the main difference between telecines put out
by the pirates is that the r5’s are done using pro equipment,
professional studios and professional people. The quality of R5
retail is very similar to dvdscr’s, no time is usually spent cleaning
up dvdscrs either.
The range of quality we now have is like this.
R1/2 retail > DVDSCR > R5 Retail > Telecine > Telesync > Cam.
Vhs scr and wps, come around the ts mark (obviously differs
between rls).
We will be tagging future releases as follows:
Tag: R5 Example: Moviename.R5.format-group
Description: Any R5 retail with english audio will be tagged as this.
In the past R5 with english audio has been wrong tagged as, TC (ex:
The.Departed.PROPER.READ.NFO.TC.XviD-ZN), DVDSCR (ex:
Trust.The.Man.LiMiTED.DVDSCR.DVDR-BOOM) and DVDRip (ex:
The.Matador.2005.DVDRiP.XviD-HLS).
We want to cut this bullshit, and just tag as R5, not as dvdrip,
just a new category: R5.
Tag: R5.LINE Example: Moviename.R5.LINE.format-group
Any R5 retail, which hasn’t got english audio will be synced
to DIRECT LINE english audio and tagged as R5.LINE. In the past these
have been tagged as TC (ex: Crank.TC.XviD-ZN) and DVDSCR(ex:
Ice.Age.2.The.Meltdown.DVDSCR.XViD-DaNK).

nice idea posting the explanation.
i understood that it is less quality then DVD, but more then TC, and most of the previous released movies labeled TC and DVD Screener were actually R5’s.. so it’s not exactly the second one, but it is the official labeled second one
R5 is not a dvdrip. R5 is between en TC and a DVDSCRNR?
did you READ the article?
it’s a dvd rip. a R5 one. sheesh.
MP3 5.1 audio?
R5..meh
The sound on this release is weird. It’s in sync, but it sounds like it’s from a different source or something. Now I know why. Thanks for the R5 explanation.
Picture 8/10
Sound 2/10
The audio is probably from a different source. This is common - R5 DVD for the picture and other source for the sound, because a Russian dubbed version or other language is frequently featured on the DVD. Our limits right now are the audio sources that we can use with the R5 video sources.
A few examples of this is the new Borat: 3-4 new releases, all with the same vid source, but different audio sources. The ASTEROiDS release had really bad audio, the Pukka release was a little better, but the Redemption80 release had audio mixed from 3 sources - and the final product was excellent. The LRC release of Casino Royale had an R5 video source and a crappy audio source. So get use to great video with substandard audio.
On a better note, good audio sources are usually easier to obtain then good video sources, so in the long run the R5 DVDs will really help early releases.
Can ANYONE please tell me where to find english subtitles for this release?????
