I also put chapter markers throughout the ISO, 5 minutes apart, so people can jump from one part to another with their remotes. All totaled, there are 51 chapters.

First, I have the 4 hr 12 min version of the Opening Ceremony. It looks pretty good to me. I don’t watch the actual sporting events all that much. I’m more of a Winter Olympics person. But, I do like the Opening Ceremonies where 190 countries around the world at least pretend to like each other. And, among all the pomp, a little humor comes through it all occasionally.

For example, about 50 or so minutes into it, there’s a whole bunch of guys wearing white robes and marching around. Every one of them was stone-faced serious except for this one guy (grin). His eyes were big and he was glancing to his fellow marchers left and right – and the worried expression on his face made me suspect he was saying to himself, “Oh, God, please don’t let me f*ck up.”

Then, there was another moment when internationally famous pianist, Lang Lang, was playing piano with a Chinese child (can’t recall name) who’s considered to be a prodigy. It started out well … until a group of people got up – their shadows walking in front of the two pianists – causing the TV crew to switch cameras. Most people probably thought that was a wise move, camera-wise. But I wonder (grin). The Chinese hosts had just spent the last few minutes bragging about their contributions to the world (ie., movable type 500 years before Gutenberg’s press, the first compass, etc.). And I thought … hmmm … maybe those people got up on purpose and were meant to walk in front of the two pianists. The heads popping up and their shadows walking across the screen may have been China’s symbolic way of bragging about their contribution to the world of movie piracy (grin).

In any event, I decided to perform an experiment. I added a few seconds of blank video/audio to the beginning and end of the file – making it’s total run time 4 hr 12 min 26 sec. Then, I transcoded it with Canopus ProCoder to an NTSC MPEG2 file with 224k AC3 audio & 6000 VBR video bitrate. I authored it to a DVD ISO using DVDshrink’s deep analysis and adaptive error compensation methods and managed to fit it all on a single DVD. And, it looks pretty good. I uploaded the files to RS in case anyone else is interested. The files will unRAR to:

Hey Alain Bernard. Perhaps now you can shut your French pie hole and take a, well, slow boat out of China since your boast to “smash” the Americans in the 4X100 meter relay turned into a disaster, you croissant eating water ogre.

When Michael Phelps pulls off the great eight and gets that $1 million Speedo bonus, he’ll have to cut a big share to Jason Lezak.

Said Phelps of Lezak: “His last 50 meters were absolutely unbelievable.”

Long known as one of the great relay swimmers in U.S. history, Lezak vaulted even higher in that pantheon with a stunning last leg of the 400-meter freestyle relay Monday morning, overhauling world-record holder Alain Bernard in the final stroke to win the race for the United States by 0.08 seconds.

It was one of the most thrilling relays in Olympic history, and perhaps one of the most improbable comebacks. Lezak was nearly a body length behind Bernard, who not only holds the 100 free record but also announced his relay team would “smash” the Americans and derail Phelps’ bid for a historic eight gold medals in one Olympics. (Phelps said the U.S. team knew the French were talking trash and it fired the Americans up.)

Instead, Bernard blew the lead, and Phelps and the rest of the Americans erupted on the pool deck when Lezak threw his right arm to the wall an eyeblink before Bernard.

It was the lone ecstatic moment for American swimmers in a challenging morning. But it was an incredible climax.

NBC actually have cut 40 mins from the Opening ceremony, and if possible, please encode full length of 4 hours++ version. Thank you. So far only BBC have full length version without advertisement I think.

I’m Still Encoding the 1920×1080i version of the Opening Ceremony to 1080p H264 AVC HD mp4 file with 448 kbps 5.1 AAC audio and it will have NO commercials in it as I edited all the commercials out so it is commercial free. Without the commercials the program was 3 hours 31 minues 12 seconds long and wiil fit on 1 DVD +R DL disc in 1080p High Definition. The Quality of my 1080p version BLOWS the 720p version away as I downloaded that version to see what comptition I was up against. When I do upload it it will either be uploaded to USENET or I will upload it via bittorrent. I havent decided yet which way to upload it yet.
