Oldblivion - run Oblivion on your old card

TES 4 Oblivion is so popular games it’s worth developing special applications to make it working even on these not top class computers. Oldblivion is a third party program (download) which allows graphics cards which are pre DirectX9 to run Elder Scrolls: Oblivion from Bethesda. This means that Oblivion can run on cards such as Geforce 3, Geforce 4, Radeon 9200 and so on. Obviously this is not supported by Bethesda Softworks so download and use at your own risk. Oldblivion is still in an early development phase but it’s fairly stable, however there still are a few bugs and kinks to work out. Oldblivion attaches to Oblivion and applies certain patches to it. Some of these patches are for making sure that Oblivion doesn’t crash when run on hardware which lacks certain new functionality. It also changes the shaders used by Oblivion from pixel shader 2.0 and vertex shader 2.0 into pixel shader 1.1 and vertex shader 1.1.

Supported cards include wide range of older models of popular graphic accelerators: Geforce 3 series, Geforce 4 series, Geforce FX 5200 series, Geforce PCX 5300, Geforce FX 5500, Geforce FX 5700 series, Radeon 9550, Radeon 9200 series, Radeon 9000 series, Radeon 8500 series, SiS 760 (working with some issues), Geforce FX 5100 GO (working with some issues). You can check out some screenshots made on PC with 1.5 GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM and Geforce 3 - it doesn’t look that bad. I think it’s a pretty interesting project worth trying if you have some older video card, because this game is simply awesome…

I had already expected something like this. The Elder Scrolls community is full of these smart programmers. Morrowind even had on-the-fly graphcs adjustment for the best graphics in any interior/exterior depending on your hardware setup.

^ Smooth enough to make it playable? If so, I’ve gotta download the torrent and fix and see how much time I can waste. What’s the specs on your laptop?

This worked great for me too. I have a geforce fx5200 and apparently it’s support for pixelshaders v2.0 really sucks. Now I can at least play something while I wait for something similiar for Hitman Blood Money :(

OLDblivion totaly solved game crashes. Great work!!

I’m just curius. I’m assuming the game will better if you use the original oblivion loader with a high end video card. Does anyone know how better will it be? I’m just thinking if its worth spending money for that if OLDblivion loader is just as good.

    Thanks in advance!

WOW I need a half decent graphics card. Can’t be bothered to wait for the £9 X300 I just bought for my new computer (I know it’ll work with that and this is all I play).

Guess this is a temporary fix until the cheapo card gets here. :D
