OiNK Servers Raided!

According to TorrentFreak one of the, if not the most popular music torrent sites, OiNK has been brought offline with their servers raided and the admin ‘OiNK’ a 24 year old Briton arrested. At the time of writing the site is unresponsive, so it looks like the reports are true, further proof is that the IFPI has put out a statement on the raid as well as the police confirming the arrest. Read more here.

R.I.P. :(

Good riddance. The admins were a bunch of f@cktards and evidently got what was coming to them. It wouldn’t surprise me if the raid was a direct result of their lousy attitude and rudeness toward one or more of their own members.

    October 23rd, 2007 | 13:46

naw.. isn’t this cute, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of hating a site they’ve never used.

FYI I never paid a cent during the three years I’ve used the site. Sure the Admins were really strict, but that and the fact that it was private kept the quality of the rips real good and I got hold of a lot of rare albums that there was no way of getting hold in other ways, even by paying.

really, writing comments like “got what was coming to him” on another torrent site you yourself are using is hypocrisy

  42. RIP Oink!
    October 23rd, 2007 | 13:46

Was a member for years – great site for music and apps.
Never had to pay a penny, didn’t know anyone who ever did.
Each member got a number of invites thay could give out to others freely.
Invites were mine to give to whomever I wanted.

    NO FEES INVOLVED!

Shame on BBC – Radio 1 news just said ‘he was thought to have made hundreds of thousands from selling invites’!!!!!!

heard of them but I rarely download music. I personally don’t see the logic in spending 2yrs on an investigation and probably millions of dollars just to take down a site that inevitably will cause the surge in members to look elsewhere and make some other site famous and make it reach the status of the one fallen.

    October 23rd, 2007 | 14:31

BOOM!!! Another one bites the dust.

Face it people, torrent sites are falling one by one. Better keep d’loading while you can because it won’t last forever…

And YES, Oink accounts where for sale. Not by Oink staff, but by the members themselves. Don’t dump on the BBC because you don’t like the subject. That’s just ignorant.

  52. October 23rd, 2007 | 14:40

They’ve put up the message now:
The website http://www.oink.cd you are trying to visit is unreachable.

For reasons please visit news channels on google or related.

Btw, I’m positive that OiNK will rise.

  53. welcome to the internets!

  62. Tzu
    October 23rd, 2007 | 15:17

For the record, OiNK was not a money making scheme, it was a site for sharing high quality music that you could not get anywhere else, in many cases you couldn’t even buy the stuff that was available there, suck as rare old jazz records. I believe that the majority of the users were, as I am, music lovers who found many new artists during their stay in the community, and who spent quite a lot of cash on albums, lp’s, merchandise and concerts, all benefiting said artists. If there ever was a piracy site that did more good than harm, this was it.

And as for the admins, they were strict but fair, exactly what was needed to keep the quality of the tracker above any competition.

R.I.P. OiNK’s, I enjoyed my stay over the last 2-3years.

  63. Tosspots
    October 23rd, 2007 | 15:19

    spider

You sum up that site, just because they had some releases that none of the other sites had, suddenly you think you work for SONY. Feck off and get a real life, I bet 99% of the files ended up somewhere else anyway. and what do I want FLAC for, if I liked the music that much, I would buy it anway. And if the relases were not that available, it would have been a wank band anyway.

Do you feel as safe about your downloading and uploading of child porn as you blatantly do about any other form of digital file transfer you pillock?

Couldn’t we all prove a point by just boycotting music altogether? Just go for a few months or so of not listening to music, and since most of it is garbage anyway, it wouldnt be tough.

We could listen to talk radio instead, or even just read.

    @jacksmack

They can’t have Chinese immigrants in China you idiot. Just like there are no French immigrants in France or Italian immigrants in Italy.

Some people are so stupid it just makes me mad.

The internet was planned to be used by corporations and …. so they could do their dirty work easier. A few years back it got out of their control. Now it belongs to us. They think by busting torrent sites they ‘ll scare us. If they only knew.
