Obese Chinese killed by nonstop gaming

A really scary news arrived from the Asian country of China. The 26-year-old man, from the Liaoning Province in North East China, had been playing ‘almost all’ week during the Chinese Spring Festival, reports the China Daily. Obesity, as well as gaming, was blamed for his death – the man identified only as ‘Zhang’ weighed 150kg (23.5 stone) and it is believed his heart struggled to pump blood throughout his enormous body, states the paper. It quotes a local teacher blaming the lack of entertainment for young peopple during the ‘dull’ holiday. ‘There are only two options: TV or computer. What else can I do in the holiday as all markets, KTV and cafeterias are shut down?’ she says.

The exact game the man was playing has not been identified. I bet it was World of Warcraft or some another Asian MMORPG, as these are really addictive. Seemingly an Asian phenomenon, Zhang’s death is not the first by any means from excessive gaming. In the recent past a Taiwanese man died after three months of living and gaming in a cyber cafe. After an argument with his wife he reportedly did not want to go home. Well, people should know their limits…

People do not know their limits anywhere in the world, but because Asia has such a huge population, you’ll no doubt hear more reports there of excessive gaming deaths. I know plenty of people who play WoW for over 7 hours a day and it’s just maddening. I love to play FPS games, but I limit myself to about an hour per day.

I read reports earlier this year about this being a big problem in Korea. They are actually saying there is a syndrome that can cause you to have an some kinda embolism or something.

Not exactly the same thing, but it has to do with extended periods of gaming. Basically the report said games like WoW have long tedious points on inaction with sudden visual and mental stimulation. These are what are causing the deaths.

This guy on the otherhand was a fat guy that would have died from it gamer or not.

What happen to Wii…. with gaming becoming more active (at least I hope so) then we’ll have fitness and gaming toegether. In the meantime, I’ll have to put my jellydoughnut down while I have a moment of silence for our resently departed gamer.

The serious issue here is the whole of China. Becuase 80% of China is still a 3rd world coutry, the people their cannot adapt to new technology. They are still 20-30 years behind mentally. It is the mentality of being a chink.

Seriously guys what’s the point to making this into a racist diatribe? Some of you need to grow up, or atleast PRETEND TO. Seriously this is retarded.

The only people that deserve to die are racists and anyone cheering for the fact this kid died. Fuck you, you sick little punks.

Let’s get it clear…. addiction to gaming, food or other stuff was the issue. It sound like the kid’s heart gave out or some other reason related to his weight problem and not gaming itself.

I wonder if there is a “scientific” statistic for how people die in front of TV watching “oprah winfrey” / talk shows / etc…!

Actually I think it’s due to the inherent meticulousness of Asians, they want to find EVERYTHING in a game and get to the HIGHEST levels possible. You can actually buy powered-up RTS characters from China and other Asian countries that somebody else has played to get to that level.

@aNormal: “You knew? You mean … ARE THEY ALL DEAD or something? ”

Heh, actually, I was one of them myself; I used to play like that myself, until I came to my senses. I’ve tried my best to convince them to leave, but only a couple of em managed to pull through.

I’ve removed the whole MMORPG group from all my IMs, address books, etc, and I haven’t spoken to any of them, hence I’m no longer in touch.

I know not, their fate. May God have mercy on their souls.

Anyways, I read in the papers that Spring Festival can be a very harsh time for some people over there- during the festival, single people are under pressure to get married/find a partner.

Check out this recent news article:

“Single China youths rent partners to fool parents”

” Peking University student Xiao Zhu posted an advertisment seeking a partner for rent.

Mr Zhu told China Daily that he was too busy with his studies to find a girlfriend.

But since he did not want to disappoint his parents, he decided to ‘rent’ one for 10 days.

Within two days, he had about 20 responses to his 1,000 yuan ($200) offer.

This is the time of the year when many young people in China find themselves in Mr Zhu’s predicament.

The Spring Festival and Chinese New Year are here, and according to tradition, everyone should return home for a family reunion, regardless of how busy or how far away they are. And for those studying or working in another country or city, this is when their curious family members get to meet their new-found boyfriends or girlfriends.

But many Chinese youths in university or in white-collar jobs find that they have no time to cultivate close relationships with the opposite sex. So, like Mr Zhu, they advertise for a ‘partner’.

And it’s not just the men. Last January, a female teacher posted a notice on another university’s electronic bulletin board looking for a man to be her ‘boyfriend’ during the Spring Festival holiday.”

    best death ever

  40. March 4th, 2007 | 11:40

The way I see it, he chose to live his life as he wanted. Good for him, at least he died doing something he was wanting to do, as opposed to some outside force killing him (car accident/gunshot/drowning/etc.). He made his own destiny.

It mentions his physical aspects. If you want to be mentally fit, why not also strive to be physically fit. Why not emotionally fit as well? It makes sense to me, if you want to live longer. Then again, some people don’t care. To each their own, that’s life.

That´s a ridiculous way to die, does this means there are lots of ppl in China and u start to become insignificant?? so the only way to be significant on china is to play MMORPG games??

Well technically it does says “The exact game the man was playing has not been identified. I bet it was World of Warcraft or some another Asian MMORPG, as these are really addictive” so it doesnt mean that he was playing a MMORPG, he could have been playing pacman for all we know. He probably actually lived longer playing the game, if he was running around at that size he could have had a heart attack in the middle of the street and noone would have seen him for 7 days. So I would be thanking the game company since he died doing something he loves
