It has been only 10 minutes or so since BestDivX released a new dvdrip of an interesting multi-national movie O Jerusalem. It has been filmed in many countries, including France, Italy or Israel. The story returns back to 1948 and talks about a real event which affected the current world situation and the origin of Israel. The quality is pretty fine on 2 CDs with MP3 audio.
A tale of friendship between two men, one Jewish and the other Arab, as the state of Israel is being created. The movie will not be enjoyable to or appreciated by everyone. If you are an Arab or Jew extremist you will probably leave the cinema in the middle of the movie – If you wish to see a one-sided, “the truth is here” movie I suggest you see a Michael Moore movie.But if you wish to see a movie with a brilliant script that tries to touch the human triumph and tragedies of the 1948 war with a superb cast that will make you shed a tear – this movie for you. Yep, it’s a good movie! I was expecting something a bit like Munich (in style, that is) but it turned out quite different to my expectations. If you are into action films or think Arnie is a terrific actor, you may want to save your quota and not grab this one. If you like films that explore relationships then this is a goer, start downloading. There is plenty of tension, however, it’s not a dull film by any means, but it’s definitely not an action hero flick.
As to this release, it’s very good quality. Would have preferred better sound, but it’s no big deal.

For my part, having no strong sympathies for either side I feel that this movie falls short in terms of acting, writing and special effects. Which is a shame considering that it is such an interesting point in history, which holds great relevance today.
They did quite well with the light hearted scenes. That said anything that is supposed to be moving or grave just comes off as cheap and contrived to me, too many shortcuts and thus a lack of affinity for the main people. Which in turn makes their suffering more of a specticle to be picked apart than anything else.
Also its a shame that all the important places/dates that pop up are in French, Arabic and Hebrew, no English.

As for crummy effects and falling short just look at the closing scene, with the american’s “dead” wife. Shocker! you can see her breathing and you dont have to go out of your way to notice.
