Nvidia to launch nForce 780i chipset in December

Above is the GA-780SLI-DS5 by Gigabyte, a motherboard based on the Nvidia 780.
Nvidia is planning to launch its Intel-based nForce 780i chipset in December this year, however mass shipments will not occur until January next year, according to sources at motherboard makers.
The nForce 780 SLI chipset will be available to two forms, the nForce 780i SLI (C72 XE) supporting Intel and nForce 780a SLI (C72 P) supporting AMD, noted the sources.
The nForce 780i will target Intel’s X38 chipsets as its major competitor. It will support PCI Express 2.0 and 3-way SLI technology with three PCI Express x16 slots. Motherboard pricing will be around US$200, noted the sources.
With most of the features of the 780i similar to those of the X38 with the added benefit of 3-way SLI, some motherboard makers expect the chipset to have a good chance of performing well in the market. The chipset will also feature Nvidia’s ESA (enthusiast system architecture) to monitor the PC hardware status, added the sources
In related news, Nvidia’s support for DDR3 will show up in the first quarter next year, according to the sources.

A lot of sources have claimed that this upcoming motherboard is more of a finetuning of the 680 motherboards and that it isnt very revolutionary at all. It does however have support for three graphics cards in SLI and most likely 8 gigs of DDR3 memory. So if you wanna go on a spending spree come january, noones stopping you! Except your bank?

i envy you..
amd fanboy myself. good news though anyway
wtf, 4 e-sata?
Who in the name of god will plug 4×1TB external HD in their pcs…
i would
that looks insane though, SLi x3 – i lol’d
I have 4 internal 500gb and 3 external 500gb and 1 external 750gb..
So i would lurve to have 4 esata
lol 8gb ddr3
“So if you wanna go on a spending spree come january, noones stopping you! Except your bank?”
Worst sentence ever!!!
uhm the mother board looks like a lego playground all colory and stuff : my 2 y old nephew can build such thing with lego xD
QuadrupelQ, who the fck do you think you are. why do you even visit this site when all you do is post negative comments. you think you are superb, tell me about your fcking life. people like you don’t do anything, just visit various forums and blogs and pi_ss off other people.
Man with all the new hardware releases every other week, its really hard to be satisfied with your own stuff. my p4 3ghz seems like stone age and d915gav isn’t even made now.
sexy board, i want one, shame i cant find a good enough excuse to buy one, i already have 680i and thats plenty good enough, for now anyhoo
men were doed it end heheheheh i guess never.
FiXXeD is insane
4.250 Tera niceeeeeee
It’s nice to see they thought it through enough to space out the PCIe slots. ^_^
Now you can reasonably fit a fan system in every other slot for each card, as well as the double stacked cards with a built-in exhaust.
7+8… ummm…. tth one actually needed me tog et acalculator…
anywyas… thnkyu soo much for posting PC tech news… pllease plleease make it more frquent..
i love the fact tht rlslog…takes care of all my surfing needs… no need to go to individual sites for all this stuff..
im sure all the other PC fans wil really lvoe this stuff…
please please make it mroe regular.
tthnkkyu soo much maan
I guess i’ll wait for the aXXo release
LOL! nVIDIA is getting their asses handed to them by Intel. SLI is a joke and nothing but a marketing scheme.
@18 “SLI is a joke”
With the graphics card GPU/memory being the most stressed computer parts used when playing games, I think sharing the load between 2-3 lower priced graphics cards in SLI makes sense. (all the eggs are not in one basket financially and heat dissipation would be better)
In addition, you can add more graphics power in the future. [If you only get one card (or two) at first then you can add card(s) as they become cheaper]
P.S. I have not studied SLI yet and I still have just a single 6800GT (overclocked past Ultra), but I assume the above to make sense. Tell me if I’m wrong with my assumptions about SLI…Thanks
I think Jon must be mentally ill if he honestly believes that Nvidia is in any way being threatened by Intel… Now there might be a rivalry between ATI(AMD) and Nvidia, but as far as video chipsets and cards go, Intel is absolute software driven trash. Intel video is the new winmodem…
I stopped looking at nVidia mobos once they dropped support for the older nf2 for Vista. If in the future they’ll do the same with the so many chipsets they have right now it’ll suck!
(I never said Vista won’t load on a nf2 mobo! So don’t start with that)
By “SLI is a joke” he meant the scalability is not as good as it should be. Read more on Quad SLI.
lmao @ 17. Props.
@ 1.
grow up
Still think I will be getting the X38 myself after the holidays…
its pretty crap actually
Newbie Question:
why does it have 2 LAN Ports?
#26 “A1″ models have x2 RJ45 connectors other models will just have 1, its obviously used to connect to two separate networks but yes it is a little excessive i have never found a good use for the 2nd RJ45 connect on my 680i SLI A1 but my friend has one hooked up to his DSL line and another hooked up to his cable line; if you are using virtualization it might also come in handy.
#24 780i > X38 simply due to it having every feature that X38 has in addition to tri-SLI support whereas X38 doesn’t even support 2 cards let alone 3. It just depends on what you use it for but everyone that uses nForce boards are gamers/enthusiasts so if you think X38 is better then this board wasn’t made for you to begin with.
Me personally i am very hesitant to buy 780i due to the fact that with Intel Skulltrail boards (x2 cpu sockets) supposedly coming out in the next 60-90 days nForce 880i would be less than 6 months away if Nvidia wanted to stay competitive, which i am sure they do. That would in turn render this board outdated within 6 months and due to the fact that i only do one personal build per year i am sure you can see why i have reservations.
This is why i always wait until Feb/Mar to do my yearly personal build, but if Skulltrail supports SLI then i will be going with that due to the fact that it can support x2 processors…….. OCTcore anyone?
@ #26 & # 27,
If it is anything like my 680i, then you have the option to do “Teaming” and combine the bandwidth of the two Gigabit LANs, into one 2 Gigabit LAN … or something like that, I forget, I never used the feature…
@17: “I guess i’ll wait for the aXXo release” Thanks for making my day, im still laughing xD
@26,27,28: You can actually use one port for upload and the other for download… not sure how useful that actually is..
i hate sli mobo’s, juts hate it!!!
fuc.k sli tech, its like jon said, a fuc.king bad joke.
i dont get people using sli, in the whole it makes u feel good, when and the buttom line, u have just another 10 to 14 fps more than a single card.
well, people r morons.
