Nvidia to launch GeForce 9 series in February

Here are some small but interesting new pieces of information about the next big step in GPU development from Nvidia.

Nvidia is ready for its next-generation GPU launch. According to sources at graphics card makers, the company plans to launch its GeForce 9 series GPU after the Lunar New Year in February.

The first chip to rollout of in GeForce 9 family will be the D9E, a high-end product that adopts 65nm manufacturing. The new product will also support DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, revealed the sources.

In addition to the D9E, Nvidia will roll out a mid-range GeForce 9 family product named D9P in June 2008. The new GPU will adopt 55nm processing, the sources pointed out.

I wonder how much this new GPU will cost..and I also wonder if the 8800’s will drop in price, that would be good :D

    November 30th, 2007 | 22:26

If this was running halo 3 it would be better then the piece of crap xbox360 uses. It would probably also make a better game (just staring at them).

By sheer power it’s supposed to be almost twice the strength of the 88’s, sporting a gig of ram on the card as well. It’s out the door price is rumored to be the same as the 88’s are now.

Not really much in the way of news, is it?

    December 1st, 2007 | 00:18

Sources close to Nvidia say the 9 series card will require 4 open PCIE slots, 600 watts of power available after all other system needs, and only operate effectively using Windows Vista. Nvidia also highly recommends you seek one of many available solutions in liquid nitrogen cooling from companies they have recently partnered with, or that you move to a colder climate and use your PC as an alternative source for home heating.

The mid range GF9 in June seems a good bet and a couple months later there will be cranked up midrange units. By then my 7900GT will be almost 2 years old and maybe by then there will be more than a couple games that utilise DX10. Seems that by the time all those clowns that forked out close to a grand for an 8 series last year can actually use the card, the much cheaper midrange GF9’s will beat it on its head.

The AMD/ATI powerhouse will prove that nVidia is no match for real video card engineering. The nVidia drivers have been a disaster this last year.

This is because their video cards have become too complicated for those writing the drivers to understand any longer. What a shame.

What? Why did you throw down the cash for a GTX?? Not only could you get a GT for half the price, which is only slightly slower, or you could have waited just 11 days and bought a (G92)GTS which is also much cheaper than a GTX and faster.

I don’t know if you have a SLI mobo, but for the price of a GTX you could have bought 2x GTs and SLI’d them to get much faster than an ULTRA!

Anyways as long as you’re happy right?

I have read it will be a series of smaller gpu’s working together as will ATI’s answer to it. Guess single chip gpu solutions are getting too hot.

I really hope AMD doesn’t go under next year, imagine how lazy Nvidia and Intel would get. Monopolies are not consumer friendly. Bill your a very bad man.

ROFL all those idiots who brought dual 8800s when they first came out…. just to play ONE (crap) dx10 game, and the next gen card comes out (dx10.1 no doubt).

ATI rules anyway… at least before the HD2000s :(

    just bought a 8800gt for $215.

@37 im a AMD fanboy but if they don’t put their act together i’m going to switch to Intel. Already looking at processors.

At first I was think ANOTHER month to decide which 10.1 then I saw that instead of releasing ALL their cards then it will just be the most expensive one leaving most people to have to wait until JUNE!! to get a head/head comparison.
I CAN wait to swap my 1950 until Jan and see what the dual ATI card does, but I am not going to wait ANOTHER 6mths until NVIDA gets off their A** to release an affordable 10.1
Actually, I think I might do a 3870, and THEN slot it with 6xxx series if I can pop for it

AS far as AMD/INTEL unless something good happens by mid year 08, I will have to stop playing with my AMD’ Cpu’s, though unless INTEL can surprise us with a GPU they have been secretly developing, it might not be till this time next year when we get to have a 3rd player in the GPU game
I THINK they are going to stay away from ultra high end and focus on the mid stuff as well at first

hmm… Well I’m happy with my ” GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB ” All games run good enough. Even Crysis but I got bored with it ^^

Being a customer , I dont care if its Intel/nvidia or AMD/ATI , I need a product thats suits my budget and requirement , so far with out a doubt Nvidia with the 8800 GT and Intel with the C2D
    are doing a fair job.

NOTE: the ppl @ nvidia and microsoft do know how to dominate the market.

Crysis is just like FarCry (no big deal abt it) , the game thats meant to be played this year is COD4 : Modern Warfare.

And the new card will be two 8800 GTX combined together, gonna rule over ATI:s new card again for sure..

    December 12th, 2007 | 13:42

there is no doubt that intel and amd r doing better jobs
and ati fanboys stop talking about ur 3850s and 3870s we know how r these cards.. It is common knowledge that 3870 is 25% slower than 8800 GT 512MB. 3850 was ruling the mid-market untill…until 8800 GT 256MB launched. yes the 256 MB 8800GT beats 3850..
