Nvidia starts with DirectX 10 graphics card for $299
Partners of Nvidia Corp., the world’s largest supplier of standalone graphics processors, have unveiled a 320MB flavour of the GeForce 8800 GTS (the other flavour has 640MB memory onboard). The graphics card sports the fully-fledged GeForce 8800 GTS chip with 500MHz clock-speed, 96 stream processors at 1200MHz , 24 texture mapping units and 20 raster operation units as well as 320-bit memory bus. You’ll be able to get this DirectX 10-compatible graphics boards starting from $299, about $100 less than the price of the cheapest GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB. This is the US price though, the very same card will cost way more in the Europe.
Such an event can’t be done without a bit of PR boasting: “Our goal is to drive PC gaming to new heights by leading the DirectX 10 revolution, making this exciting next-generation technology and the GeForce 8 Series performance available to an even wider gaming audience. Delivering the 8800 GTS to lower price points is a big first step in that direction,” said Ujesh Desai, general manager of desktop GPUs at Nvidia. Well it’s probably the right time to update my Radeon 9600 to something more powerful…

I’m going to wait a bit i think and get the best one i can afford around May time, once they are a bit further in to the series.
I imagine they are going to have to do a string of cheaper ones, once the DX10 games start rolling out.
Actually the 8300 and 8600’s are already announced. And I just so hapen to have the other GTS.
The one with 640 MB. DX10 drivers will be released around March but right now the only game actually taking advantage of DX10 optimizations is Flight Simulator X. Crysis wll be the first REAL game with DX10 but unfortunatly it’s been delayed to Summer 2007.
Supreme Commander also likes DX10 as i know
i’m waiting for second gen DX10 cards to show themselves before i delve into it. got my core2duo system up and running now. 7600GT serves its purpose.
Sucks, we pay like 299€ for that one here in Germany.
Thought u would like to know, I have just installed Vista Ultimate. Rainbow Six Vegas installs and runs fine, it does ask for DX9c but that didn’t seem to cause any probs at all, and believe it or not it actually runs faster in Vista than it ever did in XP and I only have an AMD 1800 1gig ram NVidia 6600.
There are 640MB GTS cards for 340€ in Germany, the small ones are expected to cost around 300€. I’d say that 40€ are well invested, although I don’t see any reason why to buy a 8800 at the moment, DX10 is not even out.
Have no Fear, enough freaks outthere buying all those G80s .. just look in Gaming forums, they all got them. freaks.
GF 7900GS for about 135 Euros, best deal at the time.
Be glad you dont live in Norway.. I paid 6600kr for my 8800 GTX, thats about 835 Euros:(
it’s times like these i can say i’m proud owner of xbox and don’t have to worry about system upgrades to make the games work
Well, have fun playing Crysis on your Xbox. Or wait, that is not going to happen…
I own a X360, too, but some kinds of games will never be playable on a console, as every RTS, for example. It might be able to streamline the controls as in BfME2, but don’t count on it.
i have a 5600fx 256mb… years old
I think, it’s time to start a serious developpement in Europe.
We can develop our own OS, and our own hardware not waiting from or paying to USA.
It’s time for real Autonomy.
i have a geforce 7950GT 512MB it cost me €280
and it’s the best value for money.
ask scit he’ll back me up
true jacky, true
the 8800’s look nice, but if I have to pay that kind of prices for top end, then I’ll wait for the R600’s from ATI. my X700 pro will have to do for now
yeah martin i think ur right u need to upgrade ur vid.crad … lol
thanxs for the post by the way …very interresting
*pierre you think, its a start, but that’s the end of the road for you. well the franch will never do somethig useful in europ, only the germans can make things happen.
after the radeon 9800 pro, il tell you my thoughts about high-end gpu. i always use mid-range cards, and they must be 2 generation ahead from the current card.
they can’t get the old card to work properly on vista and they are announcing new cards lol
damn they reached 640 mb ? i’m still on the 64 mb !!!!
I’m still on the 16 mb !!!
about fuckin time. my 8800gtx has NOT worked correctly with Steam games (HL2, ccs, etc) with the annoying ‘distant fog’ problem since i got the card back in Nov of last yr. hopefully now NVDA will get their shit together since it’ll be wise for them to not piss off the masses..
