Nullsoft WinAmp Pro v5 33 Incl KeyMaker-DVT

One of the worlds best media player brought us a new version with some bug fixes. I’m posting this to inform you about that and I would like to hear what kind of media player you are using on your pc. I use WinAmp only for my music files (.mp3), Windows Media Player v11 for movies and VLC player for DVD movies. I remember me using WinAmp from the version 2.3 or something like that, currently i’m using the default skin.

Nullsoft.WinAmp.Pro.v5.33.Incl.KeyMaker-DVT

Winamp is more than just a player. It’s your window to the multimedia world. From MP3s to streaming video, Winamp is the one place you go to feed your audio/video habit.

I have a huge mp3 library (40gb) which I sync to my ipod daily. I use iTunes because thats all I know. I’m fairly happy with it but if there is something better that I should use please let me know. Thanks

  20. February 14th, 2007 | 14:36

    @Mike:

The clean interface in foobar2000 nice at first, but just wait till you get customizing it! I’m using the one in this post (which kindly links to all the needed visual styles and plugins), but most of the ones in this thread are sweet too. It alone pretty much converted me to foobar2000, after trying everything else…

Winamp is a must for viewing streams from http://www.streamtvnow.com, the largest live tv stream site on the web(50 000+ members). x264 and vp6.2 streams.
Remember to get the x264 plugin for the hq streams :)
If it is American sports, or European soccer streamtvnow is the one to go to. #streamtv on IRC (EFnet)

Do not get tricked by scams, streamtvnow was first and is still the largest and the best. :)

Well Winamp is nice an everything but….

    The KMPlayer http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4189

is the best.. I used to switch between divx player and wmp and wmp classic for Xvid depending on which one worked, and use win 2.78 for mp3, and PowerDVD for DVD’s

But KMPlayer does it all, best with subtitles, has shell integration like Winamp (enqueue etc), it will even load up both CD’s of a 2 CD Xvid automatically, great support for external filters. Standard skin is heavily influenced by winamp so no step learning curve.

Can’t think of anything it cant handle , ts/hdtv, audio capture, playing rar’d albums, wierd arse DVD’s etc

My only real complaint about is that its a bit too rich with the options, which means I couldnt find the bit to fiddle with the default ac3 filter within two seconds so I decided the standard one sucked and downloaded another one ;) Still havent gone through all the options, but I’ll get there.

Anyway after playing with it for a while I do like the AC3 filter that comes with it as standard.

Any other good music (mainly mp3) players for a macbook (os x 10.4) with an intel processor. I haven’t found any good at all!

I keep all my music on a seperate USB HD. It is nice and easy and all, but I usually don’t carry around my external HD everytime I bring my laptop around.
However I have 60GB iPod and I know how to access the actual files on it (”Show hidden files” –>”[diskletter]:/control/music/fXX”, XX being a number between 00 and 50), however I need a music player app that identify files from a library with the help of id3. And obviusly do not want it to tamper with the iPod.

When I had a PC I used to plug-in the iPod without launching iTunes and just add the files on the iPod to the winamp-library and just play them.

    Any ideas?

I know I can turn off the iTunes syncing, but I really like that function for transferring files TO the iPod.

I really, really hate the nonsense the iPod does with the filename mangling. There’s just no need for that garbage. I know Apple thinks they have to do that, but they’re wrong – no one else has to resort to that. It makes taking your music off the player a pain in the ass, having to rename everything with a tool like ID3TagIT or something – stupid. Love the player, hate the mangling. :)

Audio and DVB-T TV (via Winamp TV plugin) –> Winamp

    Video –> BSPlayerPro

foobar2k is simply an annoyance to setup, I’ve spent hours on it but given up in the end. The forums are misleading and frustrating as hell to get any kind of instruction out of to make it look decent.

  54. February 14th, 2007 | 20:21

Audio: Winamp – the plugins rock
Video: Media Play CLASSIC w/codecs – no m$ bloatware for me.
DVD: WinDVD. Sometimes you just wanna impress your guests :D

Going to look into foobar, – if it can use winamp plugins, I’ll probably convert.

  55. February 14th, 2007 | 20:35

Used to use Winamp a lot, but nowadays I dont even install it anymore. Sure it is good with online radio, tv and all, but its such as bloated heavyweight that Id rather see it go.
Vlc doesnt suck, but it wont always work with subtitles. Therefor my pref goes out to the XP Codec Pack with (or download it standalone) Mediaplayer Classic which is a true charm. If you are looking for other ways to njoy it all, then only one site comes to my mind… altools.net
Not only do they have the best zip/rar/image/whatever ALZip tool, but a lot of other free stuff too. Such as ALShow with Codec updater or ALSong, which will play all your songs like winamp usually would, but then lightweight ánd will, atleast if you like, download the lyrics belonging to the song played. Great stuff. :D

  56. February 14th, 2007 | 20:42

    foobar2000!

  73. ab
    February 15th, 2007 | 01:02

Can someone enlighten me, what is the big deal about foobar2000 ? Its big selling point as far as I can tell is that the maximum theoretical sampling/bitrate is “far in excess” of what even pro audio equipment can render. Although as the author notes, in reality this is a mute point because if you can’t render it in your soundcard, you can’t play it back.

FB2k doesnt support mms or rtps streaming, real audio, ac3, matroska, quicktime, or OGM.

Foobar doesnt support video at all while The KMPlayer (yay) supports everything even dvd’s and flv (flash).

Because you need heaps of 3rd party addons for it many ppl have issues running it under Vista.

Won’t let you listen to partial finished downloads so you can make sure its not a fake.

Doesn’t have enqueue or shell integration so you fellas are probably wiping out playlists by the billion.

It does have Replay gain which just plain sucks atm, and gapless audio playback wtf, it doesnt burn CD’s so um it might be useful if you use windows inbuilt CD burner.

Also googling on “the kmplayer sucks” produces no hits while….

The reason why I like foobar2000, is that I just want to listen to the friggin music without wasting any time or system resources!

Using WinAmp is like playing a game- I’m talking about the UI as well as the resource usage. With foobar, all I do is load it up, it resumes from where I was playing last, and goes into its nice little corner in the system tray. I also set it up to use global hotkeys, so I never have to deal with the main interface at all. Its almost like my PC has this builtin ability to play music. The resource usage is incredibly low so I can continue to do my stuff without any UI interaction at all.

On top of that, all my music is in aacPlus format, and WinAmp doesn’t handle aacPlus properly. If I remember correctly, it used to only handle the aac part and doesn’t render the SBR component, which gives aacPlus its fidelity at low bitrates.

Of course, there are times when I use to WinAmp, for example when I want to play streaming audio or browse to the huge list of online radio stations winamp has. Otherwise, its foobar2000 for music and VLC/GOM for video.

Has anyone heard of SnackAmp? I’m currently using it for mp3s, I use mpc for almost everything else.

Still using Winamp? That has managed to evolve from the once ‘best player’ to the present day ‘bloatware no:1′.

    I use 1by1. http://mpesch3.de1.cc/
It is THE BEST PLAYER…. EVER!
    No playlists, no mess.

Just load a file and it shows the whole directory.

Just test run it and you will never turn back!! unless u r a kid who has got his computer just a few days back and what to show of that it can play mp3, with some graphical $hit.
