When I saw this release I said, new documentary about Soviet space achievements, I would love to see that.

But, title of this film is totally wrong, this movie has more details on president Eisenhower than on Sputnik.

I can’t say anything good for the documentary which looks at Sputnik, as US failure, rather than Soviet success.

In my mind these were the best years in humanity, the real start of modern age.
We need a few more cold wars so countries actually do something usefull instead of killing millions of innocent people.

The best thing to watch if you’re interested in the space race is ‘The Right Stuff’, starring Sam Shepard, Ed Harris, Scott Glen and Dennis Quaid. Brilliant epic.

now you tell me which of these three feats is the most impressive – and you talk about communist propaganda??? look how the americans have made a huge deal of the moon landing… as if that actually brought something to humanity as opposed to satellites.

additionally – talking of the more advanced – look at the rocket fuel used by the russians at the launch as opposed to the fecked up american fuel – so much more efficient and safe.

I think you’ll find that most of the advanced in aviation,military and space in the US was based on captured German scientists. The Soviiets captured few of the major scientists. To top it off, the Soviets were very big on rocketry from the 1920’s on, created very advanced rockets including the first rocket fighter, superior to the German Me 163. As for the Soviet space program, it was spearheaded by actual Russians unlike the US one which was pretty much just Von Braun.
