NOVA Sputnik Declassified HDTV XviD-MiRAGETV
Sputnik I, the first manmade satellite to orbit the Earth, was launched by the Soviets from an undisclosed location on October 4, 1957. Weighing 184 pounds, it circled the Earth every 90 minutes. The latest NOVA episode Sputnik Declassified details the story of the beginning of the space race. The soviets and americans were locked in nuclear standoff, and when the soviets launched the first space orbitor the world was shocked. Spaceflight, GPS, cell phones, satellite TV, even the personal computer and the Internet—all owe a debt to Sputnik I. We all know that NOVA is a proven show, now go download it
.

“Sputnik Declassified” counters the popular view that President Dwight Eisenhower and the American science and defense establishments were caught completely off guard; and that Eisenhower was so behind the times that even after the success of Sputnik I, he still failed to recognize the importance of space. more

Seems incredible how the Soviet Union could achieve this amazing feat in space, to be followed by the total defeat of communism only 34 years later.
@4,
is your email addr something like matty_boy*@hotmail.com ? rlslog continually fills out the comment name/email for me, with the name ‘Dan’ and an @hotmail email similar to the one above. i just go with it lol
@5
Because the russians or soviets had nothing to do this. They did achieved this by capturing and torturing all the German scientists. I assume you know history and how they split them to the US and russia.
And to say the Internet owns to the soviets is the worst communist ass licking I could have read here.
NEVER TRUST A RUSSIAN!
“Sputnik I, the first manmade satellite to orbit the Earth, was launched by the Soviets from an ???undisclosed??? location on October 4, 1957″
We know exactly the starting point – The Sputnik Rocket was launched on October 4, 1957 at 19:28:34 UTC from the Site No.1 at NIIP-5.[wiki]
For those who also space related documentaries heres a series of 4 by the bbc. It is a docu-drama, the actors are pretty good, and they use real footage also.
BBC Space Race
Space Race is a BBC docu-drama series first shown in Britain on BBC2 between September/October 2005, chronicling the major events and characters in the American/Soviet space race. It focusses on Sergei Korolev, the Soviets’ chief rocket designer, and Wernher von Braun, his American counterpart. The series was a joint effort between British, German, American and Russian production teams.

Saw it on TV 3 days ago….was kinda boring
The SoS release looks better than this MirageTV one.
@ SpawnX
I think you’ll find that most of the advanced in aviation, military and space in the US was based on captured German scientists. The Soviiets captured few of the major scientists. To top it off, the Soviets were very big on rocketry from the 1920’s on, created very advanced rockets including the first rocket fighter, superior to the German Me 163. As for the Soviet space program, it was spearheaded by actual Russians unlike the US one which was pretty much just Von Braun.
@6 Yeah it is actually lol.
Just use the name Dan1 or something so people dont get us confused lol
first satellite in space – ussr
first man in space – ussr
first man on the moon – usa
now you tell me which of these three feats is the most impressive – and you talk about communist propaganda??? look how the americans have made a huge deal of the moon landing… as if that actually brought something to humanity as opposed to satellites.
additionally – talking of the more advanced – look at the rocket fuel used by the russians at the launch as opposed to the fecked up american fuel – so much more efficient and safe.
SpawnX
Sorry, Have to trust the Russians to come up with the R5 of Superbad this week.
Go dem RUSKI’s !!
You won da space race!!
Fake moonlanding
This looks like a great torrent
Who gives a crap about who did this or that first. We humins must learn whow to work together or we will be dead meat if some aliens arrive
why is this posted by mr x
i don’t see that it has any porn content
the soviets “lost” in the end because stalin/khrushchev/brezhnev/etc are actually wussies who refuse to nuke their enenmy. they still would have lost, but what a way to end everything.
Yuri Gagarin FTW!
The best thing to watch if you’re interested in the space race is ‘The Right Stuff’, starring Sam Shepard, Ed Harris, Scott Glen and Dennis Quaid. Brilliant epic.
Hmmm… Gess who spent millions trying to conceive a tool so they could write in space?
Yup, USA
And guess who just used a pencil?
Yup, USSR
In my mind these were the best years in humanity, the real start of modern age.
We need a few more cold wars so countries actually do something usefull instead of killing millions of innocent people.
Instead of a race for military supremacy, a race for cientific advance.
Knew you could depend on the Russians. The r5 always come
in on time

Wait a second. They have ruined the aspect ratio.
NEVER TRUST A RUSSIAN!
I would never trust a russian. They are sketchy and smell funny too.
@Mantra
Guess who had a society that collapsed under its own weight when it could not compete with the rest of the world?
Yep, USSR.
Guess who happily continuing as a society to this very day and still using those pens designed for space?
Yep, USA.
One is a capatalist success, the other a fantastic, communist failure.
When I saw this release I said, new documentary about Soviet space achievements, I would love to see that.
But, title of this film is totally wrong, this movie has more details on president Eisenhower than on Sputnik.
I can’t say anything good for the documentary which looks at Sputnik, as US failure, rather than Soviet success.
